Every year around August, millions of teens take their parents to stores to buy new clothes for the start of the school year. Not every parent can afford this, and some teens are forced to go to school in the same clothes they wore last year. The obvious differences in clothes cause differences among students. There is a simple solution to this problem; school uniforms (校服).
I know from personal experience and surveys that wearing uniforms creates a sense of equality among peers (同龄人).
From sixth grade until I graduated from senior high school, I attended a school that required students to wear uniforms. The uniform was very simple: dark brown shoes, green-brown pants, and a white shirt. The uniform left little room for any kind of self-expression, especially through clothes.
However, I learned how to stand out by expressing myself through my personality, art, and sports. I did not know I could draw until the sixth grade. I also would never have learned of my musical abilities if it hadn’t been for my desire to find ways to express myself. Uniforms taught me that I was myself, except what I wore.
Uniforms also contribute to a much safer learning environment. I remember a particular event that happened in my junior high school. A man ran away from prison and wanted to hide in the gym of our school. Luckily, cameras all over the school quickly found the stranger before any danger could ever happen as he was out of place. School officials kept the man locked inside our gym until the police came to take him back to prison.
Uniforms help provide a better educational experience for all students no matter what race, culture, or economic class In closing, wearing uniforms is good for both schools and students.
4. How does the author introduce the topic?
A. By explaining a basic rule.
B. By challenging others’ views.
C. By describing a common problem.
D. By sharing his parents’ experience.
5. Which of the following could the author agree with?
A. Uniforms should be more modern.
B. Uniforms can help shape better students.
C. Uniforms are popular with students.
D. Uniforms are bad for self-development.
6. What do the underlined words “out of place” in Paragraph 5 probably mean?
A. Dressing differently. B. Standing straight.
C. Running fast. D. Breathing heavily.
7. What is the author’s purpose in writing the text?
A. To record his high school life.
B. To show his supportive view towards uniforms.
C. To ask students to like what they wear.
D. To introduce high school uniforms.
C 5. B 6. A 7. B
根据第一段“There is a simple solution to this problem: school uniforms. (这个问题有一个简单的解决办法:校服)”可知,作者用“this problem”引出了文章主题。根据第一段中“Every year around August, millions of teens take their parents to stores to buy new clothes for the start of the school year. Not every parent can afford this, and some teens are forced to go to school in the same clothes they wore last year. The obvious differences in clothes cause differences among students.(每年8月左右,数百万青少年带着父母去商店为新学年的开始购买新衣服。不是每个家长都能负担得起,一些青少年被迫穿和去年一样的衣服去上学。服装上的明显差异造成了学生之间的差异)”可知,这是一个普遍问题,所以作者是通过描写一个普遍问题而引出主题。故选C。
【5题详解】
推理判断题。根据第二段“I know from personal experience and surveys that wearing uniforms creates a sense of equality among peers (同龄人).(我从个人经历和调查中了解到,穿制服会在同龄人之间产生一种平等感)”和第四段“ Uniforms taught me that I was myself, except what I wore.(校服让我知道我就是我自己,除了我的穿着)”、第五段“Uniforms also help to a much safer learning environment. (校服还有助于营造更安全的学习环境)”和最后一段“Uniforms help provide a better educational experience for all students no matter what race, culture, or economic class (经济阶层).(校服有助于为所有学生提供更好的教育体验,无论什么种族、文化或经济阶层)”可推断,作者认为校服对学生有很大好处,能够帮助塑造更好的学生。
根据前文“Luckily, cameras all over the school quickly found the stranger before any danger could ever happen as he was out of place. (幸运是,在可能发生危险之前,遍布学校里的摄像头很快发现了这个陌生人,因为他out of place)”并结合全文可知,这个陌生人因为没有穿校服,与其它同学不相称,所以很显眼,很容易被发现,out of place意为“穿着不同(Dressing differently)”。故选A。
根据最后一段“In closing, wearing uniforms is good for both schools and students. (总之,穿校服对学校和学生都有好处)”并结合前文可知,作者主要是为了描写穿校服的好处,表达自己支持校服的观点。故选B。
C
The conditions for some of extreme fires in recent years have become between 3 and 20 times globally. Record-breaking fires burned in Canada and turned skies far away in New York orange and grey. The largest recorded fires in the European Union killed 19 people in Greece, and fires in western Amazonia brought dirt y air to local towns. And we just went through a super destructive wildfire season in Athens, Greece, in August 2024.
A major report shows that the amount of carbon emissions (碳排放) from wildfires between 2023 and 2024 was 8.2 billion tons of CO2. Forest wildfires would release more carbon emissions, pose a higher risk to people, and take longer to recover.
There is no single definition of what fire can be an extreme fire. It could be measured by burned area, intensity, or how unusual they are. “At 200 square kilometres, this year’s fires in Greece are much smaller than the 900 square kilometres burned last fire season, but it would count as an extreme fire, because of its closeness to and potential damage to people,” said author Dr Joe McNorton.
When this big wildfire tears through Athens, scientists in Europe are racing to understand why extreme fires like this are becoming more common. They find climate change is the key factor. Warmer temperatures dry out forests, which make a fire more likely to spread. It can also cause more plants to grow, which provides more fuel (燃料) for the fire. Humans also influence fires, like starting them themselves, breaking up the landscape, or how well they fight them.
Dr Joe says the report will both guide preparations for wildfires, and help the world understand the simple fact that fires will keep getting worse until fossil fuels are replaced with renewable energy sources. To tackle the problem, leaders should consider protecting forest boundaries, reducing the amount of natural fuel fire, imposing fire bans on high-risk days, and investing more in early warning prediction systems.
8. How is paragraph 1 developed?
A. By giving examples. B. By making comparisons.
C. By discussing solutions. D. By explaining causes.
9. Why was the fire in Greece considered as an extreme fire?
A. It burned a very large area. B. It brought harmful effects.
C. It had much carbon emissions. D. It lasted a long period of time.
10. What mainly causes extreme fires?
A. Size of forests. B. Human behavior. C. Location of fires. D. Climate warming.
11. What does the underlined word “tackle” in the last paragraph mean?
A. Apply for. B. Bring about. C. Deal with. D. Focus on.
A 9. B 10. D 11. C
由第一段“The conditions for some of extreme fires in recent years have become between 3 and 20 times globally. Record-breaking fires burned in Canada and turned skies far away in New York orange and grey. The largest recorded fires in the European Union killed 19 people in Greece, and fires in western Amazonia brought dirt y air to local towns. And we just went through a super destructive wildfire season in Athens, Greece, in August 2024.(近年来,全球一些极端火灾的条件已经增加了3到20倍。加拿大发生了破纪录的大火,纽约的天空变成了橙色和灰色。欧盟有记录以来最大的火灾在希腊造成19人死亡,亚马逊西部的火灾给当地城镇带来了肮脏的空气。2024年8月,我们刚刚在希腊雅典经历了一场极具破坏性的野火季节)”可知,第一段主要列举了发生极端火灾的国家或地区,所以是以举例方式展开的。故选A项。
根据第三段最后一句“‘At 200 square kilometres, this year’s fires in Greece are much smaller than the 900 square kilometres burned last fire season, but it would count as an extreme fire, because of its closeness to and potential damage to people,’ said author Dr Joe McNorton.(Dr Joe McNorton说:‘今年希腊的火灾面积为200平方公里,比上一个火灾季节燃烧的900平方公里小得多,但由于它靠近人们并可能对人们造成伤害,因此将被视为极端火灾。’)”
根据第四段“They find climate change is the key factor. Warmer temperatures dry out forests, which make a fire more likely to spread. It can also cause more plants to grow, which provides more fuel (燃料) for the fire. Humans also influence fires, like starting them themselves, breaking up the landscape, or how well they fight them.(他们发现气候变化是关键因素。气温升高会使森林干涸,从而使火灾更有可能蔓延。它还可以导致更多的植物生长,从而为火灾提供更多的燃料。人类也会影响火灾,比如自己生火、破坏景观,或者他们扑灭火灾的程度)”可知,科学家发现气候变暖是造成极端火灾数量增加的关键因素。故选D项。
【11题详解】
词句猜测题。根据最后一段最后一句“To tackle the problem, leaders should consider protecting forest boundaries, reducing the amount of natural fuel fire, imposing fire bans on high-risk days, and investing more in early warning prediction systems.(为了tackle这个问题,领导人应该考虑保护森林边界,减少天然燃料火灾的数量,在高风险的日子里实施防火令,并加大对预警预测系统的投资)”可知,采取上述这些措施都是为了处理极端火灾频发的问题,因此,tackle 意为“处理”的意思。故选C项。
D
You may have already seen them in some restaurants around the world; robots. They are about the size of a child. They can welcome people and lead them to their tables. They can deliver food and drinks and bring dirty dishes back to the kitchen.
Many people think robot waiters are the answer to worker shortages. Sales of robots have been growing in recent years. There are tens of thousands of them now moving through eating places worldwide.
But others say robot waiters still have a long way to go before they can replace humans. They cannot take orders. And they cannot walk up steps to different areas of a restaurant.
Still the use of robots is growing. In Madison Heights, Michigan, Li Zhai was having trouble finding workers for his restaurant Noodle Topia in the summer of 2021. So, he bought a robot from Pudu Robotics. The robot was so successful that he added two more; now, one robot leads diners to their seats while another delivers food to tables. And his employees load dirty dishes onto the third robot to bring them back to the kitchen.
Zhai said he now needs three people to do the same work that five or six people used to do. And they save him money. A robot costs around $15,000, he said, but a person costs him $5,000 to $6,000 per month. Zhai noted that the robots give his human servers more time to spend with diners, which increases tips. And diners often post videos of the robots on social media, which leads to more visits. “Besides saving labor, the robots benefit business,” he said.
But not all restaurants have had success with robots. Chili’s introduced a robot server in 2020. The restaurant company expanded the test to 61 U.S. restaurants before suddenly stopping last August. Chili’s found that the robot moved too slowly and got in the way of human servers. And 58 percent of guests surveyed said robots did not improve their overall experience.
12. What is Li Zhai’s third robot used to do?
A. Lead diners to their seats. B. Deliver food to tables.
C. Take orders from customers. D. Carry away dirty dishes.
13. What do Li Zhai’s words mainly tell us in Paragraph 5?
A. The popularity of robots. B. The low prices of robots.
C. The advantages of using robots. D. The impression of robots on people.
14. Why did Chili’s give up robot servers?
A. They broke down easily.
B. They didn’t work well enough.
C. They often made big mistakes.
D. They couldn’t understand customers’ demand.
15. Which of the following can be the best title for the text?
A. Are Robot Waiters the Future? B. Will Human Servers Lose Jobs?
C. Robots Will Never Replace Humans D. Robot Services Are Better Than Humans
D 13. C 14. B 15. A
根据第四段中“And his employees load dirty dishes onto the third robot to bring them back to the kitchen. (他的员工把脏盘子放到第三个机器人上,它把这些盘子带回厨房。)”可知,第三个机器人通常把用过的盘子拿走。故选D项。
【13题详解】
推理判断题。根据第五段“Zhai said he now needs three people to do the same work that five or six people used to do.
根据最后一段中“Chili’s found that the robot moved too slowly and got in the way of human servers. And 58 percent of guests surveyed said robots did not improve their overall experience.(Chili’s餐厅发现机器人移动太慢,挡住了人类服务员的去路。
故选A项。
Running mistakes can happen to everyone at some point during training and racing, and they will lead to injuries. ___16___ .
Wearing the wrong shoes
Wearing a comfortable pair of running shoes is a good, starting point. The wrong type of running shoes can ruin your workout plan. If you have a history of running injuries, there is no easy answer without a trained professional watching the way you run and making a recommendation to you. ___17___ .
Doing too much, too soon
___18___ . They get so excited about their running that they do too much mileage (英里里程) and too fast, too soon, without taking any time off to rest and recover. As a result, they develop common overuse running injuries. Run less often, for shorter times, and at a slower pace than you think you should, especially early on in your development.
Taking overly long strides (大步)
Some runners think that a longer stride will improve their speed or running efficiency, but that’s not the case. Overstriding wastes energy since it means you’ re breaking with each footfall. Make sure that you don’t lunge forward with your feet and your feet are directly underneath your body with every step. ___19___ . A short, low arm swing is the key to keeping your stride short and close to the ground.
___20___
Some runners swing their arms side-to-side, which makes them more likely to not breathe as efficiently. Some beginners are easy to hold their hands way up by their chest, especially as they get tired. You’ll actually feel more tired in your shoulders and neck by holding your arms that way. Try to keep your hands at waist level, right about where they might lightly brush your hip.
A. Landing like a rock
B. Having bad upper body form
C. This is especially important when running downhill
D. You can choose the right shoes in advance to start that race
E. Therefore, it’s important to know what they are and how you can fix them
F. If possible, the best choice is to create unique shoes just suitable for your feet
G. Many new runners mistakenly think that more is better when it comes to running
E 17. F 18. G 19. A 20. B
根据上文“Running mistakes can happen to everyone at some point during training and racing, and they will lead to injuries. (每个人在训练和比赛过程中都会出现跑步错误,并且会导致受伤。)”可知,本句与上文构成因果关系,指出了解跑步错误的重要性。故E选项“因此,了解它们是什么以及如何解决它们是很重要的”符合语境,故选E。
【17题详解】
根据上文“Wearing a comfortable pair of running shoes is a good, starting point. The wrong type of running shoes can ruin your workout plan. If you have a history of running injuries, there is no easy answer without a trained professional watching the way you run and making a recommendation to you. (穿一双舒适的跑鞋是一个好的开始。不合适的跑鞋会毁了你的锻炼计划。如果你有跑步受伤的历史,没有训练有素的专业人士观察你跑步的方式并向你提出建议,没有简单的答案。)”可知,上文提到需要专业人士推荐合适的跑鞋,说明要选择适合自己脚的鞋子。故F选项“如果可能的话,最好的选择是制作适合你脚的独特鞋子”符合语境,故选F。
【18题详解】
根据标题“Doing too much, too soon (做得太多,太快)”以及后文“They get so excited about their running that they do too much mileage (英里里程) and too fast, too soon, without taking any time off to rest and recover. As a result, they develop common overuse running injuries. Run less often, for shorter times, and at a slower pace than you think you should, especially early on in your development. (他们对跑步太过兴奋,以至于跑了太多的里程,跑得太快,太快,没有任何休息和恢复的时间。结果,他们产生了常见的过度使用跑步损伤。跑步的次数要少,时间要短,速度要比你认为的要慢,尤其是在开发的早期。)”可知,本段说明了许多新跑者会犯的一个错误,即一开始就跑得太多太快,故G选项“很多跑步新手错误地认为跑步越多越好”符合语境,故选G。
【19题详解】
根据上文“Make sure that you don’t lunge forward with your feet and your feet are directly underneath your body with every step. (确保你的脚不要向前冲,每一步你的脚都在你身体的正下方。)”以及后文“A short, low arm swing is the key to keeping your stride short and close to the ground. (一个短而低的手臂摆动是保持你的步幅短和接近地面的关键。)”可知,上文强调跑步时的着地方式,本句需要呼应前文,同时引出下文对正确跑步姿势的进一步说明,故A选项“像石头一样落地”符合语境,故选A。
【20题详解】
根据本段内容“Some runners swing their arms side-to-side, which makes them more likely to not breathe as efficiently. Some beginners are easy to hold their hands way up by their chest, especially as they get tired. You’ll actually feel more tired in your shoulders and neck by holding your arms that way. Try to keep your hands at waist level, right about where they might lightly brush your hip. (一些跑步者左右摆动手臂,这使他们更有可能不能有效地呼吸。一些初学者很容易把手举到胸部,尤其是当他们累了的时候。这样抱胳膊,你的肩膀和脖子会感觉更累。试着把你的手放在腰的水平,就在它们可能轻轻擦过你臀部的地方。)”可知,这一段主要讲述的是跑步时上半身姿势不正确的问题,包括手臂的摆动和手的位置等,故B选项“上半身姿势不正确”符合语境,故选B。

Secondly, go outdoors and play team games with your friends as physical exercise is an effective way to get rid of negative emotions. Finally, keep in mind that you should always concentrate yourself on some positive and relaxing things when you feel fed up with academic stress, since it can be helpful in lifting your spirits and gathering up your courage to face those difficulties again.

Kenneth was born and raised in California. The sun, the beaches, and the friends he’d known since kindergarten were all part of his world. But at the age of 16, everything changed. His parents got new jobs in Ohio, and the family had to move there. It was a difficult decision, as it meant leaving behind everything Kenneth knew and loved.
Along with the move came a new school for Kenneth. He felt upset every time he thought about saying goodbye to his school. He was scared of the change, like the new city, the new school, and the new people he would meet. He didn’t know if he could fit in or if he would be lonely there.
After a long journey across the country, the family arrived and finally settled in Ohio. When it was time to go to his new school, Kenneth’s mind was filled with worries. What if the students were unfriendly and even cold? What if he didn’t make any friends?
The next morning, Kenneth’s parents drove him to school. His heart was beating in his chest as they pulled up to the big brick building. He hugged his mom and dad, took a deep breath, and stepped out of the car. With each step towards the school gate, his anxiety grew. He felt like he was walking into a whole new world.
Kenneth was greeted by a school secretary, who was very friendly. Seeing that Kenneth was nervous and shy, she decided to show Kenneth around the school yard first. Kenneth was led to the modern computer lab, the science lab, and the huge gym with a basketball court where Kenneth imagined trying out for the school team. As they walked around, Kenneth gradually felt the school seemed nice, starting to feel a little better.
Finally, they got to the teaching building and headed for Kenneth’s new classroom, and Kenneth’s heart started racing again. The school secretary led him to the door and gave Kennet h an encouraging smile.

_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Kenneth took a deep breath and entered the classroom. He noticed that all eyes were on him as he walked in. It was quiet for a moment and he felt his face got hot. Trying to calm himself down, he knew he was supposed to introduce himself. Though his voice was shaky, Kenneth managed to tell them a little about himself. After the introduction, the class clapped and cheered warmly and they seemed happy to have him there, which was quite a surprise and comfort for Kenneth. He became a little less nervous, and he started to feel like maybe he could make friends here.
As the day went on, Kenneth found that what he had worried was unnecessary. The classes were interesting, and the teachers were helpful. During the breaks, he was surrounded by the enthusiastic classmates and they chatted about their interests and had fun together. After school, some of the students invited him to play basketball in the school gym. The day ended up with surprise. Kenneth realized that change wasn’t always bad. It was scary at first, but it had led him to new experiences and friendships. He learned that he was stronger than he thought and that he could adapt to new situations.

11 What does the underlined word “tackle” in the last paragraph mean?
A. Apply for. B. Bring about. C. Deal with. D. Focus on.
