Unit 3 The seasons Key question What do you know about the seasons? Game time! Spell out a word in your group: each group member should make a letter shape with their body. The weather here is really nice—it is not too hot, and not too cold. In Auckland, summer is from December to February. We get a lot of tourists here in Auckland during those months. It’s the most popular time to visit because it’s usually warm during the daytime and cool at night. In summer, we often spend the day at the beach. I love my summer holidays! Our autumn is from March to May. It’s usually sunny and dry, so autumn is my favourite season. All the trees have orange and brown leaves. They are so beautiful! Winter in Auckland is from June to August, but it’s not very cold. If you like winter sports, you can go skiing in the mountains near Auckland. Spring here is from September to November. The weather starts getting warmer, but it can be very rainy. Spring is the best time for outdoor activities here in Auckland. The landscape is very beautiful at that time, so it’s really fun to go hiking! I often go out on weekend hikes with my family in spring. Auckland is a great place all year round—if you get the chance, you should visit! Play a guessing game in pairs. Describe your favourite season and explain why you like it.
