These days, many people spend hours looking at their phones. Why? A possible answer is that they just feel bored. Why don’t we like feeling bored?
What is boredom? Boredom is a feeling. There are two types of boredom: meaningless and attentional (注意力相关的). The first type happens when we don’t find meaning in our actions. The second type comes when people find it too difficult to focus on something. For example, students might say that “math is boring”. That is because it’s too difficult for them.
Is boredom bad? Boredom is neither good nor bad. What matters is our attitude. For example, we may find a math problem boring. If we can’t deal with (处理) our feelings well, we might just give up and feel bad. But things change when we can control (控制) our feelings and try to solve the problem. Boredom can then become a good chance to learn new things.
Are we more bored now? No, boredom is not a new thing. Over 2,000 years ago, people already felt bored. However, it’s now much easier to get away from boredom because of things like phones. But because we’re always using them, we might be worse at dealing with boredom.
54. What are the two types of boredom?
A. Good and bad. B. Short and long.
C. Meaningful and common. D. Meaningless and attentional.
55. Why might students find math boring, according to Paragraph 2?
A. They find it too difficult for them. B. They think there is too much work to do.
C They might not like their teacher. D. They might not see why they need it.
56. What does the word “attitude” in Paragraph 3 mean?
A. A goal. B. A feeling. C. A way of thinking. D. A piece of advice.
57. What can we learn from the last paragraph?
A. People are getting more bored now than before.
B. Boredom can help us to learn new things.
C. Mobile phones can make us less bored if we use them correctly.
D. We should stop using mobile phones to deal with boredom.
C
Everyone loves receiving gifts, and across cultures, presents are a way to show care and love. However, traditions are not the same in every country.
As a European living in China, I’ve seen some interesting differences. For example, while fruit and milk are common gifts here, in my culture, they might be a better choice when you are visiting someone in the hospital.
When you get invited to a dinner party, a bottle of fine wine is also a good gift. Still, it’s best to check if your hosts drink alcohol (酒).
Many Europeans will typically open their presents right away, except in places like Germany. It’s also important to take off the price tag (标签).
What if you don’t like your gift? In Spain, you still need to say you love the gift to avoid hurting the other person’s feelings. But if they remember to leave the receipt (收据) inside the gift, which is a very common practice in Spain, you can just exchange it for something else.
Re-gifting (礼物转送) is another good idea, as long as the present looks new. Jennifer Molski from Chicago has turned re-gifting into a nice project, collecting gifts people didn’t want for those in need, CBS News reported.
How the present looks is also important. However, by using wrapping paper (包装纸) for every present we buy, we produce a lot of waste. Germans value high-quality (高品质的) wrapping paper, but many are now choosing newspaper or maps to help the environment.
Do Europeans give money as gifts? Yes. Polish couples, for example, often request cash (现金) at weddings (婚礼) to cover the cost of the venue (场地) and meals.
Finally, remember: It’s the thought that counts, not the size or the cost of the gift.
58. What might be a good gift to take to someone in the hospital in the author’s culture?
A. Books. B. Fruit. C. Some cash. D. A bottle of fine wine.
59. Why do some Spanish people leave the receipt inside presents?
A. To show the price of the gift. B. To make it easier to re-gift the item.
C. To show respect to the receiver. D. To allow the receiver to exchange the gift.
60. How can people deal with the gift they don’t like, according to Paragraph 6?
A. They can sell it. B. They can return it to the giver.
C. They can give it to someone else. D. They can take it back to the store.
61. What is the passage mainly about?
A. The gift-giving culture in different countries. B. Recent changes in gift-giving in Europe.
C. Why we should re-gift unwanted presents. D. How people in Spain give and receive gifts.
D
There are 706 billion LEGO bricks (积木) on the earth, 7 LEGO sets are sold every second, and more than 400 million people have played with LEGO bricks. LEGO has already been a successful company in the world. Actually, there are many ups and downs along with its development.
Start from woods
The LEGO company was set up in 1934. The name comes from the Swedish “leg godt”, meaning “to play well”. Ole Kirk Kristiansen, the founder (创立者) of LEGO, was a master carpenter (木匠大师), so it’s not surprising that the first LEGO toys were made of wood. They were simple, such as wooden ducks. In 1942, the factory that made wooden LEGO toys was burned to the ground (被烧成灰烬), which made Ole realize the disadvantages of working with wood.
Success—brick by brick
Soon Ole found out that plastic is a good material to make toys. LEGO started making self-locking bricks in 1949. But it wasn't until 1958, when the locking design was much improved, that sales began to rise. Because of its quality and the endless creativity that it lets children have, LEGO achieved a huge success.
Overcome difficulties
In 2000, children began to spend more time playing video games. By 2003, LEGO’s sales were down by 30%, and LEGO nearly went broke. The turning point appeared in 2004 when LEGO focused again on its bricks. And it also worked with films and television, like Star Wars. The Internet was used to build a LEGO group where fans show their love for LEGO collections. In 2015, it again became a name known to the world.
62. What can we learn from the numbers in Paragraph 1?
A. LEGO has a long history. B. LEGO has achieved a huge success.
C. LEGO is the best company. D. LEGO is going to have a bright future.
63. What does the underlined word “they” in Paragraph 2 refer to?
A. Lego bricks. B. Plastic toys.
C. Wooden ducks. D. The first LEGO toys.
64. Which of the pictures shows the right development of the LEGO company?
A. B.
C. D.
65. What’s probably the best title of the text?
A. LEGO: from small to big B. LEGO: toys and joys
C. LEGO: from wooden to plastic D. LEGO: ups and downs

It was a happy time for me, but there were many dangers because of my small size. There are some incidents (事件) that I remembered clearly.
Every morning Glumdalclitch carried my box to the window. One day she carried me to the window as usual, and then she left me there. Some huge wasps came in through the window, and entered the box. They were the size of birds in England, and they were very fierce (凶猛的). I was afraid of them. I took out my sword and fought them. I killed four of them. Luckily, the others flew away.
Another dangerous moment that I remembered was this: Glumdalclitch left me in the garden one day, and the weather was very bad. First it rained, and then it hailed (下冰雹) very hard. The hailstones were the size of tennis balls, and they hurt me badly. I tried to hide under a tree, but I was still hit by some of them.
Another danger came from an idea that the Queen had. She knew that I liked boats, and she ordered one of her servants to make a little boat for me. The servant put the boat into a tank of water on the table. I spent many hours in this boat. One day, however, a frog jumped out of the water into the boat. I thought the boat would sink, and I was afraid. I was lucky, and I managed to push the frog out of the boat.

C. They might not like their teacher.
【答案】54. D 55. A 56. C 57.

【答案】62. B 63. D 64. C 65. D

_______________________________________________
【答案】I am used to keeping in touch with friends.
【解析】
【详解】“我” I;“习惯于” be used to;“和朋友们” with friends;“保持联系” keep in touch with ,又因为be used to中to是介词,后面接动词时要用动词的ing形式,所以keep变为keeping;本句结合语境用“主语+be used to doing sth.”表示“某人习惯于做某事”。故填I am used to keeping in touch with friends.
