Both my wife and I are running lovers. I usually run on the track in my neighbourhood. Most people walk on the track, so I am faster than them. My speed seems amazing to the walkers, and I often pass by them twenty or more times around the track. This makes me feel proud.
One day, a short man came. He didn’t look like much of a runner. I saw him get out of the ear and warm up before running when I passed by two walkers. He started running a few metres ahead of me. He was fast but I sped up and managed to catch up with him. I had someone to compete with. But after a lap (圈), I fell behind him and had great difficulty in breathing. After two laps, my foot began to hurt, so I had to slow down and began to run at my usual speed. This time I could breathe easily without sounding like I had a lung disease (肺病) and the pain in my foot went away. In a very short time, he was far ahead. He was too fast for me to follow. I learned several lessons. There will always be slower and faster ones. Some have natural talent, and some have trained harder. Don’t judge (判断) the capacity of a person by how he or she looks.
The point is that we each have our own speed. When we are trying to keep up, we often end up hurting ourselves and being out of breath. Slow down or speed up but run your race to your best. Don’t run fast when you should be running slowly. Don’t run at all when you should be walking. Don’t walk when you should be running.
21.What was the writer’s first impression of the short man?
A.He must be an amazing runner. B.He was too proud of himself.
C.He couldn’t be good at running. D.He could be an experienced driver.
22.What happened to the writer when he slowed down?

Japanese scientists have created a satellite made of wood, which will be launched into space as early as this summer.
Called LignoSat, the box-shaped satellite is small enough to be held in your hand, but inside it are experiments that will show how well a wooden device (装备) can work in space. LignoSat is the result of a project developed by Kyoto University and the Sumitomo Forestry company to find new materials for satellites that will be better for our planet.
Until now, all satellites have been made of metal. When they reenter the Earth’s atmosphere (大气层), they burn up, leaving tiny particles of aluminum (铝) that could be very bad for our environment, and may even damage (破坏) the ozone layer (臭氧层).
A wooden satellite, however, would burn up into ash, which is far less harmful.
Researchers from Kyoto University tested different kinds of wood—first in laboratories, and then sending three samples to the International Space Station, where they were tested in the vacuum (真空) of space for nearly a year. They showed little signs of damage, which the leader of the project said was probably because there is no oxygen in space which could cause wood to burn, and no living creatures that might cause it to rot (腐烂).
Different types of wood were tested, and LagnoSat has been made of magnolia (木兰) wood, which was found to be the strongest.
The launch date for LignoSat has not yet been decided, but it should go up on a US rocket either this summer or a little later in the year. The satellite will then operate in space for at least six months before reentering the Earth’s atmosphere.
If LignoSat works well in space and the project is a success, then wood could be used to make more satellites in the future.
28.What is LignoSat?
A.It is a metal device. B.It is a new kind of material.
C.It is a box as small as your hand. D.It is a satellite made of magnolia wood.

A.be harmful to the ozone layer
B.cost less money than other materials
C.leave tiny particles of aluminum in space
D.not rot easily in space and it’s friendly to our environment

A.LignoSat will be sent into space successfully.
B.The project developed by Kyoto University is meaningless.
C.Scientists are uncertain about the future of LignoSat.
D.All satellites will be made of wood instead of metal.
31.What’s the best title for the passage?

A.His foot didn’t hurt any more. B.His breath became much heavier.
C.He felt angry for falling behind. D.He started to have a lung disease.
23.What does the underlined word “capacity” probably mean?
A.Hobby. B.Advantage. C.Personality. D.Ability.

29.Wood is used to make a satellite because wood can ________.
A.be harmful to the ozone layer
B.cost less money than other materials
C.leave tiny particles of aluminum in space
D.not rot easily in space and it’s friendly to our environment
30.What can we infer from the passage?
A.LignoSat will be sent into space successfully.
B.The project developed by Kyoto University is meaningless.
C.Scientists are uncertain about the future of LignoSat.
D.All satellites will be made of wood instead of metal.
31.What’s the best title for the passage?
A.Japan will launch a wooden satellite B.Japan is trying to protect the ozone layer
C.Japan will join the International Space Station D.Japan has found the strongest wood in the world
