Section A Reading 教材分析 ●Theme of this unit: Human and society; Legends and stories. ●Theme of this material: Some facts about Monkey King. ●Sub-theme: Cross-cultural communication. 学情分析 Students of grade 8 are familiar with the Monkey King, and they’ve known some reading skills but need more practice. 教学目标 By the end of the lesson, students are expected to: ►Language competence(语言能力): ●Master the key vocabulary. ●Understand and use adverbial clauses to describe traditional stories. ●Retell the story of the Monkey King using the target language. ►Learning ability(学习能力): ●Develop skimming and scanning skills to locate specific information in texts. ●Collaborate in group tasks to enhance communication and problem-solving skills. ►Thinking quality(思维品质): ●Analyze character traits and discuss their relevance to modern life. ●Evaluate the moral lessons of traditional stories and apply them to real-life scenarios. ►Cultural awareness(文化意识): ●Appreciate the depth of Chinese traditional culture through classic stories like Journey to the West. ●Tell Chinese stories and spread Chinese culture and literature. 教学重难点 ●Develop skimming and scanning skills to locate specific information in texts. ●Analyze character traits and discuss their relevance to modern life. Teaching Procedures(教学过程) 教学环节 教学活动 设计意图 Step 1. Lead-in Play a guessing game: Draw a picture of the Monkey King by using the numbers from 1 to 12 and let students guess. 让学生在数1-12的过程中根据教师的绘画猜测本节课要学习的英雄人物,激发学生兴趣。 Step 2. Pre-reading 1. Free talk: What do you know about him? 2. Prediction: Lead Ss to look at the picture and make some predictions. 1.激活学生对于“美猴王”已有的知识储备。 2.学生根据材料插图进行读前预测,以三个问题引导学生说出文章相关表达。 Step 3. While-reading Skimming: Task 1. Let students skim the passage quickly and match the main idea of each paragraph. (Para.1—Background; Para.2—Abilities; Para.3—Influences.) Scanning: Task 2. Let students Read Para.1 and answer some questions on the PPT slide. Task 3: a. Let students read Para.2 carefully and find what the Monkey King can do and what he cannot do. b. Show a video and guide students to use the expressions in Para.2 to describe the Monkey King’s abilities and weakness. 1.让学生快速扫读全文,了解文章大意。 2.寻读部分中,学生每读完一段都要完成相应的任务,以检测对文章的理解。通过任务设计,让学生带着问题阅读,引导其深入理解文章细节,提高其英语阅读能力以及解决问题的能力。 3.任务三中先让学生自读找到美猴王的能力与弱点,再以视频直观展示,最后让学生用自己的语言进行描述,锻炼学生的信息提取与语言表达能力。 4.将生词融合在语境中进行学习。 Task 4: Let students read Para.3 and finish the mind map. Step 4. Post-reading 1. Retell the passage. 2. Thinking: What do you think of the Monkey King? 3. Further thinking: Without the 72 changes and the magic stick, can the Monkey King still be a hero?
