They both feature a color. 23. What can we learn about Just for Laughs? A. It lasts for a month. B. It provides free food for all. C. It's the best comedy feast. D. It is concerned about the royal family. B Last summer, I decided to volunteer at a community center in a small rural town. I had always lived in the city, and the idea of spending two months in a place where life moved at a slower pace was both exciting and intimidating. Little did I know, this experience would change my perspective on life and help me grow in ways I never expected. The community center served as a hub (中心) for local activities, offering after-school programs for children, English classes for adults, and support for elderly residents. My main role was to assist with the children’s programs. Every morning, I helped organize games, art projects, and reading sessions. At first, I struggled to connect with the kids. Many of them were shy, and I felt unsure of how to engage them. But over time, I learned to be patient and creative. I started using storytelling and hands-on activities to capture their attention, and soon, the classroom was filled with laughter and enthusiasm. One of the most memorable moments was when a young girl named Lily, who had barely spoken a word during the first week, finally opened up. She shared her dream of becoming a teacher and even helped me lead a reading session. Seeing her confidence grow was incredibly rewarding and reminded me of the impact small actions can have. By the end of the summer, I had not only developed new skills but also gained a deeper understanding of myself. I learned to adapt to unfamiliar situations, communicate effectively with people from different backgrounds, and appreciate the simple joys of life. This experience inspired me to continue volunteering and to approach challenges with a more open mind. 24. What was the author’s primary role at the community center? A. Teaching English to adults. B. Helping with children’s programs. C. Supporting for elderly residents. D. Offering after-school programs for children. 25. What did the author do to connect with the children? A. He gave them gifts. B. He became more patient and creative. C. He organized daily games and art projects. D. He employed storytelling and practical activities. 26. How did the author feel about Lily’s progress? A. Excited. B. Pleased. C. Fulfilled. D. Relaxed. 27. What can we learn about the author’s personal growth from the last paragraph? A. Gained self-awareness and adaptability. B. Developed a focus on technical expertise. C. Strengthened commitment to community service. D. Prioritized academic achievements over experiences. C The experience of touch is key to babies beginning to recognize themselves in a mirror, new research shows, which usually happens when babies are about a year and a half old. "Babies pulling on their toes ( 脚趾) or hitting lightly their fingers are not just playing," says Jeffrey Lockman, senior author of the research paper. They are trying to recognize themselves. The researchers began by placing small vibrating (震动的) discs on the foreheads of babies around 14 months old, before the usual age at which self-recognition occurs. In response to the vibration, they would reach up and touch the discs. Next, researchers turned the children to face a mirror and watched as they reached up to touch the discs. The researchers then had the children perform the standard mirror-mark test for self-recognition in which a small mark of paint or makeup was placed on each child's face. If the child looked in the mirror and touched the mark on their own face or said words like their name or "me", they demonstrated self-recognition. The researchers also observed a control group of children exposed to the laboratory experience with mirrors but not the vibrating discs. The children who touched their face more frequently recognized themselves in the mirror about two months earlier, on average, than those who typically first begin to recognize themselves in a mirror. This indicates a possible mechanism that self-awareness can develop based on engaged experiences that human babies naturally generate. The study challenges a long-standing assumption that self-recognition in early childhood is somehow hardwired. For a long time, scientists believed early recognition in the mirror was a built-in function of human brains and those of our closest primate (灵长类) relatives, rather than linked to sensory or motor experiences. "Interventions for babies who have issues related to motor skills are typically focused on reaching for objects in the external world and controlling them," Lockman says. "According to our findings, reaching to the body is equally important and exploring the body is the gateway to self-knowledge." 28. Why do babies hit their fingers lightly at an early age? A. To explore their surroundings B. To build up self-identification. C. To signal their self-recognition. D. To engage in playful activities. 29. How did the babies in the experiment form self-recognition? A. Through active exploration. B. By seeing vibration in mirrors. C. Through word-related response. D. By copying others' movements. 30. What is a common misunderstanding of early-childhood self-recognition? A. It is an inborn capability. B. It develops through learning. C. It is related to experiences. D. It exists in men and animals. 31. What do the findings suggest about treating children's motor delays? A. Staring at themselves in the mirror. B. Intervening as early as possible. C. Enhancing external motor activities. D. Having interactions with their bodies. D After taking an introductory course in global health last winter, Yashaswi Bista, president of Stanford Supply Her, was empowered to take action against malaria —a disease that has been claiming hundreds of thousands of lives every year for centuries. Stanford SupplyHer, a student group supporting women’s health through art, hosted an event in partnership with United to Beat Malaria (UBM) to encourage funding for malaria prevention, treatment and research initiatives while tabling at White Plaza last Monday. “Knowing that malaria is especially dangerous to pregnant individuals and children makes advocacy for malaria funding and research essential for our mission,” said Bista. “We in the U. S. need to be aware of the impact of global warming on malaria because less developed countries in other parts of the world are more heavily affected by our emissions,” Bista said. Last year, the U. S. experienced its first local outbreaks of malaria since 2003. Infectious disease experts have warned that climate change will spread malaria and other diseases carried by mosquitoes to areas that were once free of malaria. This summer, after discovering the work of UBM, a global grassroots campaign of the UN Foundation, Bista met with her congressional (国会的) representatives to advocate for malaria treatment and research. To support continued funding for global malaria programs, Bista wrote to officials in Congress. “It’s easy for people to feel like they are powerless with issues as big as malaria. But any person can give input to their decision makers on issues as big as these,” wrote Macgan Cross, a senior advocate at UBM. “By sending messages to your elected officials in support of global health funding, you are making sure your voice is heard.” Bista encouraged students to become involved in initiatives on campus to spread awareness of malaria and other global health issues. “Global health is important to me because there are so many health inequities (不平等) around the world and health itself is important to live a fulfilling life,” Bista said. “Because there are so many health inequities around the world, I want to raise awareness and help people live fulfilling lives. ” 32. What inspired Bista to engage in actions against malaria? A. A learning experience. B. A health crisis. C. A grassroots campaign. D. A tabling event. 33. What did Bista do to support malaria prevention? A. She organized a charity sale. B. She launched a research project. C. She campaigned for fundraising. D. She budgeted for malaria treatment. 34. What is the message Maegan Cross intends to convey? A. Community voices secure health funding. B. Malaria outbreaks are difficult to prevent. C. The public needs more knowledge about health. D. Individual efforts matter in government decisions. 35. Which of the following best describes Bista? A. A health advocate. B. A club founder. C. A woman pioneer. D. A disease specialist. Whether you’re heading out for a day trip or a quick weekend getaway (短期休假), we will share some travel tips in this guide to help you make your experience more enjoyable. ·Think about how you want to travel. 36._______________ Sometimes it means the most enjoyable. If you’ re not sure about the best means of transport for you, experience them all. See what catching the subway is like, try cycling or riding the bus. It’s hard to predict what will be the most convenient. LA has a low- cost public transport network but car-pooling is cheaper, and scooters are the best for getting around West Hollywood. 39._______________ ·Don’t rely on map apps. Map apps are useful, but they don’t take into account the possibility of packed subways, queues for taxis and the heat of a train in summer. 40._______________ So don’t assume something is a 30-minute drive just because a map app says so — by the time you’ve driven halfway, you might still have another 30 minutes to go. Sometimes, I would become very confused. Math problems that seemed to be impossible to solve, puzzling grammar in English, and difficult historical events all made me feel at a loss. I didn’t know where to start or how to improve. Moreover, the fierce competition among classmates also added to my anxiety. Seeing others doing well, I couldn’t help but question myself, wondering if I was working hard enough. This sense of uncertainty made me doubt my abilities and future. I was losing patience and drive. One sunny day, as I was sitting in the classroom feeling a bit bored, my teacher came in and announced that we would have a special project — to plant a tree in the schoolyard. I was excited at the thought of getting outside and doing something different. I went outside and started digging the hole for the tree. I worked hard, feeling the dirt on my hands and the sweat on my forehead. As I was working, a classmate, Mary, came over and said, “Hey, you’re really putting a lot of effort into this!” I smiled and replied, “Yeah, I want this tree to grow strong. It feels like we’re doing something meaningful.” Mary nodded in agreement, “Definitely. And it’s amazing to think about how we’re all part of this process of growth.” As the weeks passed, I would visit the tree often, observing the little tree as it faced many challenges, including harsh weather and strong winds. But each time, it overcame them and continued to grow taller and stronger, providing shade and shelter for us. Its journey in the wind and rain was a test of its perseverance (坚持) and growth. It made me wonder whether I could be like the tree, growing and changing. One day, as I stood by a tree lost in thought, my teacher approached me. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Reflecting on it now, I realize this conversation was a turning point in my life. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 英语答案及解析 第一部分 听力 第一节 1-5 ACCBC 第二节 6-10 CAABA 11-15 CABCA 16-20 BBABA 第二部分 阅读理解 第一节 A 21. 根据South by Southwest (SXSW)中It is not only a music feast but also dedicated to the integration of technology and films. Patrick's Day中的On that day, the whole city turns green和King's Day中的Amsterdam turns a very bright color of orange可知这两个节日都有各自独特的节日颜色。 23. 根据Just for Laughs中的For comedy lovers there is no other festival in the word better than Montreal's Just for Laughs. My main role was to assist with the children’s programs. But over time, I learned to be patient and creative. But any person can give input to their decision makers on issues as big as these,” wrote Macgan Cross, a senior advocate at UBM. “By sending messages to your elected officials in support of global health funding, you are making sure your voice is heard.” 故选A。 前文“Think about how you want to travel.”(考虑一下你想如何旅行),后文“Sometimes it means the most enjoyable. Too much consideration on short journeys is not worth it. If you’ve got a preference for a certain means of transport, it’s often worth traveling that way for short distances, even if it ends up taking you a little longer.”(有时候这意味着最令人愉快。 F选项“The best doesn’t necessarily mean the fastest.”(最好的不一定意味着是最快的),“The best”承接前文旅行方式的选择,“doesn’t necessarily mean the fastest”与后文即使多花时间但令人愉快相呼应,引出后文关于旅行方式选择的进一步阐述,所以选F。 37. 后文“Some cities, like NYC, are quite walkable. Others simply aren’t. In Amsterdam, the best way to get about is by bike — whether you use the city’s shared bikes or rent one from your hotel. In Southeast Asia, you’d better rent a scooter C选项“Study the city you will travel to.”(研究你要去旅行的城市),“Study the city”引出后文对不同城市出行方式的描述,作为该段小标题合适,所以选C。 38. 前文“Some cities, like NYC, are quite walkable. Others simply aren’t. In Amsterdam, the best way to get about is by bike — whether you use the city’s shared bikes or rent one from your hotel. In Southeast Asia, you’d better rent a scooter 在东南亚,你最好租一辆小型摩托车),后文“So don’t bother to find the so-called one-size-fits-all answer.”(所以不要费心去寻找所谓的通用答案)。E选项“What works here might not work there.”(在这里行得通的在那里可能行不通),“What works here might not work there”承接前文不同城市不同的出行方式,引出后文不要找通用答案,所以选E。 39. 前文“If you’ re not sure about the best means of transport for you, experience them all. See what catching the subway is like, try cycling or riding the bus. It’s hard to predict what will be the most convenient. LA has a low- cost public transport network but car-pooling is cheaper, and scooters are the best for getting around West Hollywood.”(如果你不确定哪种交通方式最适合你,那就都体验一下。 D选项“You won’t know until you try them all.”(直到你都试过了,你才会知道),“You won’t know until you try them all”承接前文不确定哪种交通方式最好就都体验一下,总结了该段内容,所以选D。 40. 前文“Map apps are useful, but they don’t take into account the possibility of packed subways, queues for taxis and the heat of a train in summer.”(地图应用程序很有用,但它们没有考虑到地铁拥挤、出租车排队以及夏天火车上的炎热等情况),后文“So don’t assume something is a 30-minute drive just because a map app says so — by the time you’ve driven halfway, you might still have another 30 minutes to go.”(所以不要仅仅因为地图应用程序说某段路程开车需要30分钟就这么认为——当你开到一半的时候,你可能还需要再开30分钟)。G选项“Besides, they are a bit behind the real traffic time.”(此外,它们有点滞后于实际交通时间),“Besides”表示补充,“they are a bit behind the real traffic time”承接前文地图应用程序的不足,引出后文关于不要完全依赖地图应用程序的描述,所以选G。 A. processes过程;B. decisions决定;C. challenges挑战;D. exercises练习。 A. I, on behalf of the Student Union, would like to call on everyone to contribute to an eco-friendly campus. Firstly, we should make recycling as easy as possible. A simple way to do this is bearing garbage classification in mind, throwing different kinds of waste into different dustbins. Secondly, conserve water, electricity and paper. For example, turn off the tap and the lights when not in use, and reuse used paper on the back, thus reducing waste of resources. Let’s make the campus a greener place! Only through joint efforts can we achieve this goal. 1. 词汇积累 代表:on behalf of→representing 简单的:simple→easy 节约:conserve→save 实现,取得:achieve→reach 2. I, on behalf of the Student Union, would like to call on everyone to contribute to an eco-friendly campus. I, who represent the Student Union, would like to call on everyone to contribute to an eco-friendly campus. 1】Recently it's common to see some uncivilized practices on campus such as littering and wasting resources. (运用了it's common to do sth. 2】Only through joint efforts can we achieve this goal. One day, as I stood by the tree lost in thought, my teacher approached me. She asked, “What are you thinking about?” I explained my realization about the tree and how it mirrored my struggles. My teacher smiled warmly and said, “That’s exactly right. Just like the tree, you will face challenges, but you must keep growing. You need to persevere, adapt, and find strength within yourself. Remember, every difficulty you overcome makes you stronger.” Her words impressed me deeply, and I felt a renewed sense of determination. I decided then and there to approach my studies with the same persistence as the tree. Reflecting on it now, I realize this conversation was a turning point in my life. Inspired by the tree’s growth and my teacher’s encouragement, I began to tackle my academic challenges. Slowly but surely, I noticed improvements in my grades. More importantly, I learned to consider challenges as opportunities for growth. This shift in mindset not only helped me academically but also taught me a lifelong lesson about the power of perseverance and the beauty of continuous learning. Whenever I face obstacles now, I remember the tree and the wisdom it taught me, reminding me that with patience and determination, I can overcome any adversity. 词汇激活 行为类 ①解决:tackle/handle/resolve ②克服:overcome/get over/conquer ③鼓舞:inspire/encourage 情绪类 ①深深地打动了我:impress me deeply/touch me deeply ②被激励的:inspired/motivated/encouraged 【高分句型1】Inspired by the tree's growth and my teacher's encouragement, I began to tackle my academic challenges. 2】Whenever I face obstacles now, I remember the tree and the wisdom it taught me, reminding me that with patience and determination, I can overcome any adversity. Text 1 M: It’s strange being back in school. W: What do you mean? M: I think it’s tough to get used to studying, meeting new people and living independently again after being on vacation for so long. Text 2 W: It’s such a large park. M: Yeah, it’s the largest park in the city. It was rebuilt last year. W: Where do we buy tickets to get in? M: Oh, over there. Text 3 M: Bob looks like he just won a million dollars. W: He had a job interview last week, and he just heard that he got the job at the company RBC. M: That’s really good news. Text 4 W: Tom, do you work out here every day? M: No, just on weekends. I’m busy with my work on weekdays. W: What is your routine like? M: I usually run on the running machine for an hour. Then I lift weights for about 20 minutes. After that, I go swimming. Is this reception? M: Yes, madam. What can I do for you? W: This is Mrs Black in room 305. I sent some clothes to the laundry this morning: two of my husband’s shirts and three of my blouses. They are not back yet, and we’re leaving early tomorrow morning. M: Just a moment, madam. I’ll phone the housekeeper to find out what happened and will call you back later. W: All right. Please be quick. Thank you. Text 7 M: Hello! I’d like to congratulate you on your wonderful performance. W: Thank you very much. M: You played the piano so beautifully. What are your plans for the future? W: I’m going to give 100 more concerts. Fortunately, people want to come to hear me play. M: Why do you have to work so hard? W: I'm planning to start a school, so I'm trying to save as much money as possible. M: What kind of school? W: A music school for disabled children. I think they have the right to receive an education just like other children. However, at the moment there are very few such schools in my country, and it will cost a lot of money. M: I think a lot of people will support you, and I'm sure your wish will come true. Text 8 W: I can't decide whether to go to university or get a job. What do you think? M: Well, if I were you, Mary, I'd go to school. W: But I don't even know what to study. M: If I had the chance again, I'd study computer science. I know you're good at science subjects. W: That's also what my parents want me to learn. M: You should take their advice. They know what is best for you. W: But my friends will have jobs and lots of fun while I spend all my time studying. M: If you go to university, you'll still have time for fun. W: What you say makes sense. But, you know, I will still have to ask my parents for pocket money, and I hate to do so at this age. M: If you find a part-time job, you will have your own money. W: You're right. Thank you for your advice. Text 9 M: I don't really know what to do this summer. I can't afford to just sit around all day. But there seems to be no suitable job available. W: Why don't you try house-sitting? Last summer, my classmate Jane house-sat for the Smiths when they went away on vacation. M: House-sitting? What did she do? W: Mr Smith hired Jane to stay in their house because he didn't want it left empty. M: You mean the Smiths paid someone just to live in their house? W: It wasn't that easy. She had to water the plants and take care of the pets. M: House-sitting sounds like a good job. I guess it's a little like babysitting, except that you are taking care of a house instead of kids. W: That's it! The student employment office still has two such jobs posted. I called about it this morning. M: Do I just have to fill out an application form? W: You also have to interview with the house owners. M: That seems like a lot of trouble for a summer job. Text 10 W: Thank you for calling The Language Academy. This is a recorded message.
