Grammar——动词­ing形式作主语(3) 语法精讲 一、基本概念 动词的­ing形式是动词的一种非谓语形式,由动词原形加­ing构成,此结构既强调动作又具有名词、形容词的性质。在句子中用作主语、表语、宾语、定语、补语和状语。本单元学习动词­ing形式作主语。 二、语法规则 (一)动词­ing的基本形式 项目 主动语态 被动语态 一般式 doing being done 完成式 having done having been done 1.动词­ing形式的一般式常表示该动作与句子谓语动作同时发生或发生在谓语动词所表示的动作之后。 Coming to Hangzhou by train takes about 16 hours. 乘火车到杭州大约需要16个小时。 2.动词­ing形式的完成式表示该动作发生在主句谓语动作之前。 Having ever travelled to that beautiful city has made him want to travel there again. 曾经去那座美丽的城市旅游使他想再次去那儿旅行。 3.动词­ing形式若与其逻辑主语之间为被动关系时,需用被动语态,而不及物动词的非谓语形式无被动语态,但可有完成形式。 Being liked creates opportunities for learning and for new kinds of life experiences that help somebody gain an advantage. 被人喜欢为学习和新的生活体验创造了帮助人们获得优势的机会。 4.动词­ing形式的复合结构,­ing形式加上自己的逻辑主语,如形容词性物主代词、名词所有格、人称代词的宾格或名词普通格,便构成了­ing形式的复合结构。具体形式如:(1)his+doing;(2)Tom’s+doing;(3)him+doing;(4)Tom+doing。 His coming made us very inspired. 他的到来让我们深受鼓舞。 Tom’s being outspoken won the respect of his fellow workers. 汤姆的坦诚赢得了同事们的尊敬。 [温馨提示] 动词­ing形式的否定形式,not置于动词­ing形式结构之前,即not doing... Not having studied his lessons very hard made him fail the exam. 没有很努力地学习功课使得他考试不及格。 [对点集训1] 完成句子 ① Being exposed to the sunlight for too long/Exposing yourself to the sunlight for too long (长期暴晒于阳光下) will be harmful to your skin. ② Concentrating your energy on English (集中精力学习英语)will enable you to master the language. ③ Not knowing her address (不知道她的地址)had us lose touch with her. (二)动词­ing形式作主语 1.动词­ing形式作主语时,多表示经常性、习惯性的动作,谓语动词多用单数形式。 Travelling a lot is a good way to help people become knowledgeable. 多旅行是助人识广的好办法。 Having a walk every day helps to make one keep healthy. 每天散步有助于一个人保持健康。 Learning to think critically is an important skill today’s children will need for the future. 学会批判性地思考,是现在的孩子为了未来(的发展)所需要具备的一项重要技能。 [温馨提示] 意义不同的两个动词­ing形式并列作主语时,谓语动词需用复数形式。 Listening to music and reading are his two hobbies. 听音乐和读书是他的两个爱好。 2.位置 动词­ing形式作主语时通常有两种位置:一种是位于句首;另一种是it作形式主语,而将动词­ing形式移至后面。 Saying is one thing,and doing is another. 说是一回事,而做是另一回事。 Learning English as a second language can be a painful experience. 把英语作为第二语言来学习可能是一种痛苦的经历。 常用动词­ing形式作主语的句型: It is a waste of time doing...做……是浪费时间的 It is no good/use doing...做……是没好处/没用的 It is worthwhile doing...做……是值得的 It is useless doing...做……没有用 It is no fun doing...做……没有乐趣 It is no use crying over spilt milk.覆水难收。 It is a waste of time persuading such a person to join us. 劝说这种人加入我们是浪费时间。 [温馨提示] There is no need to do sth.“做某事没有必要”。在此句式中,to do不能换为doing。 There is no need to move off so early for you. 你们没有必要这么早出发。 3.动词­ing形式和to do作主语时的区别 动词­ing形式和to do都可以作主语。动词­ing形式作主语表示比较抽象的一般行为,to do作主语往往表示具体的或一次性的动作。 Playing with fire is dangerous. 玩火是危险的。 Singing is my hobby,and to sing at my friend’s birthday party is my dream. 唱歌是我的爱好,在朋友的生日宴会上唱歌是我的梦想。 To surround the enemy in such bad weather is not easy for them. 对他们来说,在如此恶劣的天气里包围敌军不容易。 [对点集训2] 完成句子 ①和这个吝啬的人争辩是没用的。  It is useless/no use arguing with the mean man. ②什么都不做,只是待在家里没意思。  It is no fun just staying at home doing nothing. ③游泳是我最喜欢的一项运动。  Swimming is my favourite sport. Ⅰ.单词拼写 1.They displayed (展览) only part of their products because space was limited. 2.She was wandering (闲逛) aimlessly up and down the road. 3.All the visitors were impressed by the black and white photograph of adorable (讨人喜欢的) animals taken by Nicolas Evariste. 4.The main square has a fountain  (喷泉) that spouts water 40 feet into the air. 5.She pedaled (骑车)away as fast as she could. 6.He had to take a different route (路线) home. 7.All the staff in our company are considering going to the city centre for the fashion (时尚) show. 8.English has a huge number of colourful and splendid (极佳的) expressions which may be difficult to understand. 9.In an electric power plant the heat converts water into highpressure steam (蒸汽). 10.As natural resources are getting rare (稀有的),we have no alternative but to get rid of any practice that wastes energy. Ⅱ.单句语法填空 1.When asked his views about the teaching job,Philip said he found it interesting and rewarding (reward). 2.Meat labelled (label)“Scotch Beef” sells well in the market. 3.In the 1960s,citizens in that country were prohibited (prohibit) from travelling abroad. 4.We are all impressed by the vastness (vast) of Hulun Buir Grassland. 5.He walked over to the great mountains stretching (stretch) all the way for miles to the sea. 6.Trees and bushes (bush) grew down the water’s edge. 7.At present,all the arrangements are put in place for their visit. 8.It is a waste of time persuading (persuade) such a person to join us. 9.His small size prohibits his becoming (become) a policeman. 10.With so many friends supporting (support) me,I’m sure that I can achieve my goal.
