Hi John,
It was fun to decorate your room last month. I share a room with my brother. We want to decorate it too. Can you help us?
Right now, the walls are blue. There are cute animals on them, but the animals look too young for us. We want to cover the animals and paint the walls light green. What do you think about the colour? Besides, we plan to buy some flowers to put on the desk, make a poster with our favorite stars and make paper cuttings to stick on the wardrobe.
On Sunday, let's go shopping first. We can meet at the paint shop near the shopping centre and choose the paint together. Then we need to buy glue in the stationery store. After that, we can paint the room with my brother. I remember you have a nice brush, can you bring a brush? And could you also bring a pair of scissors and bring a painting you drew before? It will be a good decoration.
After painting, could you help choose some photos to hang on the walls? Then we can use the glue, scissors to make the poster and put up the paper cuttings.
Let me know what you think.
Best,
Zhang Peng
What chores do you do?
I do lots of chores. I wash the dishes after meals, sweep the floor every day to keep it clean, and take out the trash regularly. Sometimes, I also tidy my room, folding clothes and putting things in order.
How often do you do chores?
I do basic chores like washing dishes and sweeping the floor daily. Tidying my room usually happens a few times a week. And I do a quick clean - up of my room once a week to make it really neat.
What do you think about doing chores?
Doing chores is important. It helps keep our home nice and clean. Also, it makes me more responsible. When we all do chores together, it can make our family closer too.
Topic Report on Class Chores Survey
I asked 45 classmates about their chore routines, and here’s what I found.
When it comes to the chores they do, most take care of daily tasks: 65% clean their rooms, and 35% take out the trash. A quarter help with cooking, while 45% wash dishes. Only 8% stick to heavier chores like mopping floors, which they do on weekends.
As for how often they do chores, half do them every day, 35% several times a week, and 25% once or twice weekly. Those who cook typically do so 2–3 times a week.
Opinions on chores vary: 80% believe they build responsibility and life skills. But 25% find them tiring, and 20% would rather spend more time on hobbies.
In general, most classmates see chores as important, though some want a better balance with other activities.

Keys:
Words like “residence”, “dwelling”, “abode” can describe home. Phrases such as “home sweet home” or “home is where the heart is” are also common. You can also mention rooms like “bedroom”, “living room”, “kitchen” and furniture like “sofa”, “wardrobe”, “table” when talking about your home.
Yes. “Can” is more common and informal, like “Can I borrow your book?”. “Could” is more polite, for example, “Could I use your phone?”. When giving permission, we usually use “can” or “yes, you may”. Avoid using “could” to give permission as it’s less common in this context.
Keys:
3. You can clean regularly. Burn scented candles for nice smells. Arrange furniture to suit your needs and add soft textures like throw pillows and rugs. Also, choose warm, inviting colors for walls and decor items.
4. Home is more than just a building. It’s a place where you feel safe, loved and accepted. It offers comfort and a sense of belonging. Home can be associated with family, friends, and the memories you create there.
