A A study has found that a lifetime of regular exercise and activity can slow down the aging process Researchers say that getting older should not necessarily mean becoming more weak or sick. Their research shows that the devotion to a life of movement and exercise may help us live not only longer, but also more healthily. For their study, the researchers looked at two groups. The first group was made up of 125 nonprofessional cyclists (骑行者) between the ages of 55 to 79.This group included 84 healthy men and 41 healthy women. This group was called the“cyclists”. Researchers then found 130 people to make up a second group. Within this group,75 people were aged from 57 to 80. The other 55 were between the ages of 20 and 36.The people in this group were also healthy, but they did not exercise regularly. This group was called the “nonexercisers”. Smokers, heavy drinkers of alcohol (酒精) and people with other health issues were not included in the study. Then, researchers gave both groups a series of tests. They tested their muscle mass, muscular strength, percentage of body fat and the strength of their immune systems Then the researchers compared the results of the two groups. Results showed that the cyclists did not experience body changes usually regarded as a normal aging process. For example, they did not lose muscle mass or muscular strength. Also, their body fat did not increase with age. The researchers also found something they had not expected. The study showed that the immune systems of the cyclists did not age either. The researchers advise us all to find the exercise that we like in our lives. 1.How did the researchers carry out the study? A.With imagination. B.Through discussion. C.By comparison. D.By reasoning. 根据文章第四段“Then, researchers gave both groups a series of tests. ...compared the results of the two groups.(然后,研究人员对两组人进行了一系列测试。他们测试了他们的肌肉质量、肌肉力量、体脂百分比和免疫系统的力量。然后研究人员比较了两组的结果。)”可知,研究人员是通过比较两组的结果来进行这项研究的。 答案 C 2.Which of the following is a result of the research? A.The cyclists' muscles remained strong with age. B.The nonexercisers gained weight easily. C.The cyclists kept thin. D.The nonexercisers usually had health problems. 根据文章第五段“Results showed that ..., their body fat did not increase with age.(结果显示,骑自行车的人没有经历通常被认为是正常衰老过程的身体变化。例如,他们没有失去肌肉质量或肌肉力量。此外,他们的体脂也没有随着年龄的增长而增加。)”可知,研究结果表明骑自行车的人肌肉并没有随着年龄的增长而减少。 答案 A 3.Which is an unexpected result for the researchers? A.The cyclists had the normal aging process B.The cyclists' immune systems didn't age. C.The cyclists lost nearly all their fat D.Everyone needed exercise in their lives 根据文章第六段“The researchers also found something ...that the immune systems of the cyclists did not age either.(研究人员还发现了一些他们没有预料到的事情。研究表明,骑自行车的人的免疫系统也没有衰老。)”可知,出乎研究人员意料的结果是骑自行车的人的免疫系统也没有衰老。 答案 B 4.What is the best title for the text? A.Healthy People Need More Exercise. B.Take Exercise, the Harder, the Better C.Cycling Is the Best Way to Prevent Aging. D.A Lifetime of Exercise Slows the Aging Process. 根据文章第一段“A study has found that a lifetime of regular exercise and activity..., but also more healthily.(一项研究发现,终身定期锻炼和活动可以减缓衰老过程。研究人员表示,变老并不一定意味着变得更加虚弱或生病。他们的研究表明,热爱运动和锻炼的生活不仅可以帮助我们活得更长,而且更健康。)”以及全文内容可知,文章主要讲述的是终身锻炼可以减缓衰老过程。所以用D项作为本文的题目,与文章主题相符合。 答案 D B About twenty of us had been fortunate enough to receive invitations to a filmstudio to take part in a crowdscene. Although our “act” would last only for a short time,we could see quite a number of interesting things. We all stood at the far end of the studio as workmen prepared the scene, setting up trees at the edge of a winding path. Very soon, bright lights were turned on and the big moviecamera was wheeled into position. The director shouted something to the camera operator and then went to speak to the two famous actors nearby. Since it was hot in the studio,it came as a surprise to us to see one of the actors put on a heavy overcoat and start walking along the path. A big fan began blowing tiny white feathers down on him,and soon the trees were covered in “snow”. Two more fans were turned on,and a “strong wind” blew through the trees. The picture looked so real that it made us feel cold. The next scene was as complete contrast. The way it was filmed was quite unusual. Pictures taken of an island in the Pacific were shown on a glass screen. An actor and an actress stood in front of the scene so that they looked as if they were at the water's edge on an island. By a simple trick like this, palm trees, sandy beaches, and blue, clear skies had been brought into the studio! Since it was our turn next,we were left wondering what scene would be prepared for us. For a full three minutes in our lives we would be experiencing the excitement of being film “stars”! 5.Who is the author? A.A cameraman. B.A film director. C.A crowdscene actor. A.The heavy snowfall. B.The manmade scene. C.The low temperature. D.The film being shown. 根据第二段倒数第二、三句“A big fan began blowing tiny white feathers down on him,and soon the trees were covered in ‘snow’. Two more fans were turned on,and a ‘strong wind’ blew through the trees.” B 7.What would happen in the “three minutes” mentioned in the last paragraph? A.A new scene would be filmed. B.More stars would act in the film. C.The author would leave the studio. D.The next scene would be prepared. A C My daughter recently expressed interest in riding more. We live in a small city, and bicycles are a popular transportation choice here. I was excited at her choice. She would soon learn how easy it is to get around in this way,and how fast she can ride on two wheels. Bike tours are often quicker than bus or cab or car trips are. Much to my surprise, none of this mattered to her. On one of our first trips together,I was fixing on the route ahead-turns,arrival time-when she said,“Hey Dad,wanna know a riddle?” And then, before I explained how unsuitable this was,how we shouldn't be telling jokes while riding, and how we should be focused on the road,on reaching our destination as soon as we could, she started,“What lasts forever but never dies?” This is how it' s been. She has shared stories from the past, hopes for the future. I have been challenged to ride backward and to stretch legs out on both sides. None of these have been dangerous, mind you. My daughter does not ride without proper care. She pulls even with me,for instance only on wide, empty streets. When the car appears, she quietly slips behind me and holds both eyes to the road. As soon as conditions of basic safety are met,though... “Dad,slow down! Isn' t this a lovely neighborhood?” my daughter asks. It is a lovely neighborhood.I'm surprised.I've come this way countless times, but never have I noticed any of this. Farther down the road, the laughter of children comes out from a game of ball. I make a promise. From now on,I'm going to move more slowly on these rides. I'm going to notice the neighborhoods we move through. I'm going to enjoy this. 8.The writer had thought that riding would help her daughter ________. A.go somewhere conveniently B.have more bike excursions alone C.do some tricks on the bike D.learn the importance of time in traveling 结合第一段的“learn how easy it is to get around in this way...than bus or cab or car trips are”可知,作者认为女儿学会了骑自行车后可以方便地去某地。 答案 A 9.According to the text, the writer's daughter ________. A.ignored the traffic while riding B.had a good sense of safety C.kept talking without looking ahead D.enjoyed challenging any danger on the road B 10.While looking at the neighborhood, the writer realized ________. A.how easily his daughter was distracted B.what a good neighborhood looked like C.what he missed in the course of riding D.why a neighborhood needed a garden C 11.What promise did the writer make? A.To be conscious of time in riding. B.To take his daughter to ride more often. C.To focus his attention on the destination. D.To ride slowly to enjoy the beauty along the road. D D Throw on some headphones, turn up the tunes, and what happens? Your toes and fingers start to tap. Then your head and shoulders begin to bob. Music has taken over, and your body is now along for the ride. It's obvious that music influences you physically, but in fact, it can also play a role in your mood, brain development, and even learning. One of the first things that happens when music enters our brains is causing the pleasure centers to give out dopamine(多巴朘), a chemical that makes you feel happy. Beyond entertaining you, however, even in terms of brain development, music can play a key role. According to some studies, learning to play music is believed to increase gray matter(灰白质)volume in certain areas of the brain, just like how physical exercise can enlarge muscles. As a result, musicians often experience improvement in brain functions like learning and memory. Most the beneficial effects of music on the brain are not limited to any single style(种类)Whether you're listening to the classic country sounds of Johnny Cash, or The Beatles' powerful rock music, the results can be the same. But In other cases, the style of music matters. When it comes to the best music for learning, for example, experts recommend different kinds for different purposes. Exciting music can provide an energy boost__and get your brain ready for learning. Once it's time to concentrate, however, soothing genres can help you stay calm and focused. Finally, each person may develop an approach to studying and music that's particularly suits them. Whether you listen to your music streaming app, or enjoy going to live concerts, music is having an active influence on your brain. So, put in your headphones, start your favorite album, and feel your dopamine levels rising. A.Music helps people feel happier when they learn. B.Learning to play music helps to enlarge the muscles. C.Music provides more learning opportunities for people. A.Spread. B.Disappearance. C.Increase. D.Stop. C 15.What can be a suitable title for the text? At primary school and junior high school he joined basketball clubs, attended training programs and watched basketball games, from which he learned the moves of the star players, wishing to play in a professional team like them and shine on the court. Now as a senior high school student, however, his dream of becoming a professional player was dimming (变暗) because he was only of average height. He had to give up the hope of joining the school team. The guys on the school team were all tall boys who played matches and won honors for the school. They were like heroes. Dave watched them play and cheered them but he knew he would never be one of them. Dave felt it a pity not to be tall enough, but this didn't stop him from pouring his passion into basketball. He just played for the love of the sport. He played in the school gym with other boys or by himself every day, even during holidays and weekends, when it was open for two hours in the morning. He enjoyed every minute on the court making every effort to play better. It was one Saturday morning. Dave was playing in the gym by himself, as all the other boys were busy with other weekend affairs. Then he noticed a tall boy approaching. It was Lankas. Everybody knows him as captain of the school basketball team. “Hi, Lankas,” Dave greeted him. “My name is Dave.” “Hi, Dave,” Lankas replied as he got closer. “Nice to see you here. Do you need an opponent to play against?” Dave was shocked, frozen right there, unable to believe his ears but somehow, he answered, “Why not?” So, a game of two players began.________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ The next Saturday, when Dave was playing in the gym, Lankas appeared shouting, “Dave, I have good news for you.”________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ [参考范文] So, a game of two players began. Dave went all out to play against this tough opponent, forgetting all about his height. It was a game he could play to his heart's content. Each shot was hardearned. Soon they were sweating like a pig. To Dave, there was nothing like playing against someone like Lankas. It was more like an enjoyment than a challenge. Two hours passed before they knew it. The two thanked each other and said goodbye. Dave was secretly expecting another chance to play with Lankas. The next Saturday, when Dave was playing in the gym, Lankas appeared shouting, “Dave, I have good news for you.” Dave stopped playing and the two had a talk. He learned that Lankas talked with the coach about Dave and their game the week before and the coach agreed to take Dave as a member of the team. At the news, Dave had to hold back his tears of joy and couldn't help jumping up. Lankas patted Dave on the shoulder, “Hi, buddy, do you need an opponent to play against?”
