Unit 4 Ready, steady, go A Getting ready 教学设计 I. Teaching Objectives Learn vocabulary related to sports and the benefits of doing sports. Understand the mini - texts about four students' sports and their views, and be able to match questions with answers and tick sports benefits. Be able to talk about favorite sports, reasons for liking them, and play guessing games about sports, using correct vocabulary and sentence structures. II. Language Knowledge 1. Key words & phrases water sports, swimming, ping - pong, boxing, basketball, benefits, make our body stronger, have fun with friends, help us become brave, improve the ability to make decisions, sports icons, play, do, go (with sports) 2. Key sentences I’m really into water sports. I go swimming every Saturday. It makes me strong. I like playing ping - pong with friends. It’s fun to spend more time with friends. I prefer doing sports on my own. I do boxing at weekends. It is quite challenging, but it keeps me fit. Boxing changed me from a shy little girl to a brave teenager. I started to play basketball at primary school, and I still work hard at improving my skills. This sport helps me make better and quicker decisions. Which sport do you enjoy playing with friends? What’s your favourite sport? Do you prefer playing sports alone or in a team? What sports did you play growing up? How many players are there? Does the sport often go with the verb play? Do the players kick the ball or play with hands? 3. Key and challenging points Match questions about sports with students' answers and identify sports benefits from mini - texts. Use correct verbs (play, do, go) with different sports. Talk about favorite sports, reasons, and play sports guessing games. III. Teaching Procedures Learning activities: Step 1 Lead - in Show pictures of different sports (swimming, ping - pong, boxing, basketball). T: What sports can you see in the pictures? Do you like any of these sports? Why or why not? Invite Ss to share their answers. Then say: Today, we will learn about different sports and their benefits. Step 2 Reading & Matching Work on Activity A1 T: Four students are answering questions about their sports. Read the mini - texts and match the questions on page 59 with the students' answers. Ask Ss to read the mini - texts about Kevin, Alice, Joan, and Mike's sports, then match the questions (about enjoying sports with friends, favorite sport, preferring alone/team sports, sports played growing up) with the students' answers. Then check the answers. Work on Activity A2 T: Tick the benefits the students get from their sports. Ask Ss to read the mini - texts again, identify the benefits (make our body stronger, have fun with friends, help us become brave, improve the ability to make decisions), and tick the correct options. Then check the answers. Step 3 Vocabulary & Verbs with Sports Understand sports verbs T: Learn the verbs “play”, “do”, “go” with sports. “Play” is used with sports like volleyball, basketball, tennis; “do” with boxing, kung fu; “go” with swimming, running. Work on Activity A3 T: Match the sports with the icons. Choose the correct verbs from the word map to talk about these sports. Ask Ss to match sports (badminton, boxing, diving, volleyball, kung fu, tennis, taekwondo, cycling, swimming) with their icons and use the correct verbs (“play”, “do”, “go”) to make sentences about liking the sports. Then check the answers. Step 4 Listening Work on Activity A4 T: Listen to the broadcast on a school sports day and fill in the blanks. Play the audio. Ask Ss to listen and fill in the blanks about the school sports day broadcast (e.g., congratulations to teams, relay race details). Then check the answers. Step 5 Speaking Work on Activity A5 T: Work in pairs. Student A thinks of a sport. Student B asks questions to guess the sport, using the model questions (How many players are there? Does the sport often go with the verb play? Do the players kick the ball or play with hands?). Divide Ss into pairs and ask them to play the sports guessing game. Then invite some pairs to demonstrate their game. IV. Assessment of Teaching Effectiveness Assess Ss' comprehension of the mini - texts by observing their answers in Activities A1 and A2. Observe whether Ss can use correct verbs with sports in Activity A3. Evaluate Ss' listening comprehension by checking their answers in Activity A4 about the school sports day broadcast. Assess Ss' speaking skills by observing their sports guessing game in Activity A5, checking if they can use correct vocabulary and sentence patterns to guess and describe sports. This lesson helps Ss learn about sports and their benefits, improving reading, listening, and speaking skills. It also enhances their ability to use sports - related vocabulary and verbs accurately. V. Design Purpose The lead - in activates Ss' prior knowledge about sports, sparking interest in the lesson topic. Reading and matching activities help Ss understand others' sports preferences and benefits. Vocabulary and verb activities reinforce sports - related words and correct verb usage. Listening activity provides information about a school sports day. Speaking activity allows Ss to play a sports guessing game, encouraging communication and application of learned sports knowledge. VI. Blackboard Design Unit 4 Ready, steady, go A Getting ready Sports: swimming, ping - pong, boxing, basketball, badminton, diving, volleyball, kung fu, tennis, taekwondo, cycling Verbs with sports: play (volleyball, basketball, tennis), do (boxing, kung fu), go (swimming, running) Benefits: make our body stronger, have fun with friends, help us become brave, improve the ability to make decisions Key sentences (guessing game): How many players are there? Does the sport often go with the verb play? Do the players kick the ball or play with hands? VII. Homework Review the vocabulary related to sports and the verbs “play”, “do”, “go” with sports. Write a short passage about your favorite sport, including why you like it and the benefits it brings you. VIII. Teaching Reflection The activities effectively helped Ss learn about sports and related vocabulary. Ss showed good engagement in the sports guessing game. However, some Ss might need more practice in using the verbs “play”, “do”, “go” with sports accurately in speaking and writing. In future lessons, more integrated practice with these verbs can be added. 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
