I. Teaching Objectives
Learn vocabulary related to food and healthy/unhealthy eating habits.
Understand the content about Ava and Henry's diets, and the Chinese Food Pagoda.
Be able to talk about personal eating habits and opinions on healthy diets, using correct vocabulary and sentence structures.
II. Language Knowledge

I like bread, milk, and eggs for breakfast. They give me energy and keep me active all morning.

The Chinese Food Pagoda is a guide to keeping a healthy diet. The six levels of the pagoda show how much we need from different food groups in our daily diet.

I like cakes and eat a lot of them. That might not be the healthiest choice. We don't need much fat or sugar, but we need lots of fruit and vegetables.

III. Teaching Procedures
Learning activities:
Step 1 Lead - in
Show some pictures of different foods (both healthy and unhealthy).
T: What food can you see in the pictures? Which ones do you think are healthy? Which ones are unhealthy? Invite Ss to share their answers. Then say: Today, we will learn about keeping a healthy diet and talk about our eating habits.
Step 2 Reading & Matching
Work on Activity A1
T: Read the mini - texts and match the pictures with what Ava and Henry eat for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Ask Ss to read the mini - texts about Ava and Henry's diets, then match the pictures (a - f) with the foods they eat. Then check the answers.
Work on Activity A2
T: Circle the foods in the mini - texts and complete the chart (Healthy Food & Unhealthy Food).
Ask Ss to circle the foods in the texts, then categorize them into healthy and unhealthy food in the chart. Then check the answers.
Step 3 Vocabulary & Comprehension
Understand key words
T: Learn the key words: active, energy, taste, diet, habit. Explain their meanings and usage.
Work on Activity A3
T: Complete the passage with the words in the box.
Ask Ss to fill in the blanks with the correct words (active, energy, taste, diet, habit) to complete the passage about healthy diets. Then check the answers.
Step 4 Listening
Work on Activity A4
T: Listen and fill in the blanks with the correct numbers about the Chinese Food Pagoda.
Play the audio. Ask Ss to listen and fill in the numbers for different food groups in the Chinese Food Pagoda. Then check the answers. Explain the Chinese Food Pagoda as a guide to a healthy diet.
Step 5 Speaking
Work on Activity A5
T: Work in pairs and share your opinions about eating habits. Use the given questions and responses as a model.
Divide Ss into pairs and ask them to discuss their breakfast habits and opinions on healthy eating. Then invite some pairs to share their conversations.
IV. Assessment of Teaching Effectiveness
Assess Ss' comprehension of Ava and Henry's diets by observing their answers in Activities A1 and A2.
Observe whether Ss can use key vocabulary to complete the passage in Activity A3.
Evaluate Ss' listening comprehension by checking their answers in Activity A4 about the Chinese Food Pagoda.
Assess Ss' speaking skills by observing their conversations in Activity A5, checking if they can talk about eating habits and express opinions using correct vocabulary and sentence patterns.
This lesson helps Ss learn about healthy diets, improving reading, listening, and speaking skills. It also enhances their ability to identify healthy/unhealthy foods and express opinions on eating habits.
V. Design Purpose
The lead - in activates Ss' prior knowledge about healthy and unhealthy foods, sparking interest in the lesson topic.
Reading and matching activities help Ss understand others' diets and categorize foods. Vocabulary and comprehension activities reinforce key words and understanding of healthy diet concepts. Listening activity provides information about the Chinese Food Pagoda.
Speaking activity allows Ss to share their own eating habits and opinions, encouraging communication and application of learned knowledge.

VII. Homework
Review the vocabulary related to healthy and unhealthy foods.
Write a short passage about your daily eating habits, including breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and state whether you think your diet is healthy.
VIII. Teaching Reflection
The activities effectively helped Ss learn about healthy diets and related vocabulary. Ss showed good engagement in talking about their eating habits. However, some Ss might need more practice in using the key vocabulary accurately in speaking and writing. In future lessons, more integrated practice with these words can be added.
