Unit 3 D Listening and speaking教学设计 I. Teaching Objectives Improve listening skills by understanding conversations about visiting a doctor and an experiment on sneezing, and extracting key information. Enhance speaking skills by discussing health protection, role - playing doctor - patient conversations, and talking about how illnesses spread, using appropriate vocabulary and sentence patterns. Learn vocabulary related to illnesses and health advice, and use them accurately in communication. II. Language Knowledge 1. Key words & phrases illness, cough, fever, headache, runny nose, sneeze, sore throat, health problem, back pain, growing pain, stomachache, toothache, protect ourselves, cold and flu season, experiment, spread 2. Key sentences What happened to Xiao Peng? What did Xiao Peng do when he sneezed? How can we protect ourselves during cold and flu season? What should we do when we sneeze in these places? How far from a sneeze can we catch a disease? Stay at least... metres away from someone who is sneezing. When sneezing, cover your... and wash your hands. How else can illnesses spread from person to person? Doctor: Hello. You look pale. What’s the trouble? Patient: I’m not feeling well. I have... What’s the word for pain in the belly? Doctor: Is it a stomachache? Patient: Yes, that’s it. Doctor: When did the pain start? Patient: Not long after I had hot pot and ice cream last night. Doctor: I’m afraid it’s because of the food. You’d better have some porridge—it might make you feel better. 3. Key and challenging points Understand conversations about visiting a doctor and a sneezing experiment through listening. Use vocabulary related to illnesses and health advice to discuss health protection and role - play doctor - patient conversations. Talk about how illnesses spread from person to person. III. Teaching Procedures Learning activities: Step 1 Lead - in Show pictures of different illnesses (from D1). T: What illnesses can you see in the pictures? Do you know their English names? Invite Ss to name the illnesses. Then say: Today, we will learn about visiting a doctor and how illnesses spread. Step 2 Listening Work on Activity D1 T: Match the words about illness with the pictures. Ask Ss to match the illness words (cough, fever, headache, runny nose, sneeze, sore throat) with the pictures (a - f). Then check the answers. Work on Activity D2 T: Xiao Peng is seeing a doctor. Listen and answer the questions. Play the audio. Ask Ss to listen and answer the questions about what happened to Xiao Peng and what he did when he sneezed. Then check the answers. Work on Activity D3 T: Listen again and tick the advice the doctor gave Xiao Peng. Play the audio again. Ask Ss to tick the doctor's advice. Then check the answers. Work on Activity D6 T: Listen and complete Helen’s experiment report. Play the audio. Ask Ss to fill in the blanks in the experiment report about sneezing. Then check the answers. Step 3 Speaking Work on Activity D4 T: Discuss the question in pairs: How can we protect ourselves during cold and flu season? Divide Ss into pairs and ask them to discuss. Then invite some pairs to share. Work on Activity D5 T: Look at the pictures and answer the questions about sneezing and Helen’s experiment. Ask Ss to answer the questions individually or in pairs. Then invite some Ss to share. Work on Activity D7 T: Discuss the question in groups: How else can illnesses spread from person to person? Divide Ss into groups and ask them to discuss. Then invite some groups to share. Work on Activity D8 T: Choose one health problem and role - play a conversation between a doctor and a patient. Divide Ss into pairs, ask them to choose a health problem (back pain, growing pain, stomachache, toothache), role - play the conversation using the example as a model. Then invite some pairs to perform. IV. Assessment of Teaching Effectiveness Assess Ss' listening comprehension by observing their answers in Activities D1, D2, D3, and D6. Observe whether Ss can discuss health protection and illness spread fluently in Activities D4, D5, and D7, using appropriate vocabulary and expressions. Evaluate Ss' role - playing skills in Activity D8, checking if they can use correct vocabulary and sentence patterns to act out doctor - patient conversations. This lesson helps Ss improve listening and speaking skills related to health. It also enhances their ability to discuss health protection and use illness - related vocabulary accurately. V.
