Be able to talk about good friends, including who they are, what you do together, and why you like them, using correct vocabulary and sentence structures. Improve reading, listening, and speaking skills related to the topic of friends, and enhance the ability to express opinions about friendship. II. Language Knowledge 1. Key words & phrases caring, helpful, honest, interesting, kind, sharing, look after, help, share 2. Key sentences For me, a good friend makes me laugh. He or she likes to talk about something interesting and funny. Good friends show kindness to each other. They don't make each other angry or sad. I think good friends look after each other. When I feel sad, Mike always tries to make me happy. Good friends should help each other. When I have problems, Molly always helps me. She is my best friend. Good friends never tell lies. My best friend Tom always tells me the truth and keeps secrets for me. Friends share things with each other. Mary and I often share our favourite music. We are best friends forever! Who is your best friend? My best friend is... What do you often do together? We often read books / play games / listen to music together. What do you think of him/her? He/She is funny/hard - working/honest. Why do you like him/her? Because he/she always makes me laugh. 3. Key and challenging points Comprehend the posts about qualities of a good friend and match names with words accurately. Use adjectives to describe good friends and talk about friendship in conversations. Understand the meaning of - ing suffix in forming adjectives from verbs. III. Teaching Procedures Learning activities: Step 1 Lead - in Show some pictures of friends (from the textbook or other sources). T: What can you see in the pictures? Then ask: What do you think makes a good friend? Invite Ss to share their ideas. Then say: Today, we will learn about qualities of a good friend and talk about our own best friends. Step 2 Reading Work on Activity A1 T: Read the posts about qualities of a good friend. Match the names with the words. Ask Ss to read the posts and match the names (Aiden077, Binbin_, Colin Han, Dora233, flyingsong, Little Penguin) with the adjectives (caring, helpful, honest, interesting, kind, sharing). Then check the answers together. Step 3 Vocabulary & Grammar Understand - ing suffix T: The suffix - ing can be added to verbs to form adjectives. A sharing person often shares something with others. Explain how verbs form adjectives by adding - ing (e.g., share sharing, care caring). Work on Activity A2 T: Complete Molly's description of a good friend with the words in the box. Ask Ss to finish the task independently and then check the answers. Step 4 Listening Work on Activity A3 T: Listen to a song and write down the words you hear to describe a good friend. Play the audio. Ask Ss to listen and fill in the blanks with the adjectives describing a good friend. Then check the answers. Step 5 Speaking Work on Activity A4 T: Work in pairs. Talk about each other's good friends using the given questions as a model. Divide Ss into pairs and ask them to discuss their best friends. Then invite some pairs to share their conversations. IV. Assessment of Teaching Effectiveness Assess Ss' comprehension of the posts and vocabulary mastery by observing their answers in Activities A1 and A2. Observe whether Ss can understand the - ing suffix rule and apply it in vocabulary learning. Evaluate Ss' listening comprehension by checking their answers in Activity A3. Assess Ss' speaking skills by observing their conversations in Activity A4, checking if they can use correct vocabulary and sentence patterns to talk about good friends. This lesson helps Ss learn adjectives to describe good friends, improving reading, listening, and speaking skills. It also enhances their ability to express opinions about friendship and understand the - ing suffix in forming adjectives. V. Design Purpose The lead - in activates Ss' prior knowledge about friends and sparks their interest in the lesson topic. Reading activity helps Ss understand different qualities of a good friend. Vocabulary and grammar activity focuses on - ing suffix and word usage. Listening activity provides practice in catching adjectives related to good friends. Speaking activity allows Ss to apply what they have learned to talk about their own best friends, encouraging communication and self - expression. VI. Blackboard Design “What makes a good friend?” Getting ready Adjectives: caring, helpful, honest, interesting, kind, sharing Key sentences: Who is your best friend? My best friend is...
