I. Teaching Objectives
Improve listening skills by understanding conversations about starting a friendship and the Best Friend Challenge, and extracting key information.
Enhance speaking skills by discussing friendship advice, solving friendship problems, and role - playing conversations, using appropriate vocabulary and sentence patterns.
Learn about cultural aspects of friendship (Yu Boya and Zhong Ziqi story) and use useful expressions to give advice and discuss friendship.

III. Teaching Procedures

Step 1 Lead - in
Ask Ss: Sophie will begin her new school life soon and she’s worried. What do you think she might be worried about? Invite Ss to share their ideas. Then say: Today, we will listen to Sophie’s conversation with Amy and learn about starting friendships and the Best Friend Challenge.
Step 2 Listening
Work on Activity D1
T: Sophie calls Amy for some advice. Tick what the advice is possibly about.
Ask Ss to tick the possible topics before listening. Then play the audio and check the answers.
Work on Activity D2
T: Listen and choose the best answers.
Play the audio. Ask Ss to listen and choose the correct answers. Then check the answers.
Work on Activity D3
T: Listen again and complete the notes about starting a friendship.
Play the audio again. Ask Ss to fill in the blanks with key information. Then check the answers.

IV. Assessment of Teaching Effectiveness

Observe whether Ss can discuss friendship advice and solve problems fluently in Activities D4, D5, D8, and D9, using appropriate vocabulary and expressions.
Evaluate Ss' understanding of the cultural story by observing their discussion about Yu Boya and Zhong Ziqi.
This lesson helps Ss improve listening and speaking skills related to friendship. It also enhances their cultural awareness and ability to use useful expressions for advice and discussion.

VIII. Teaching Reflection
The listening activities effectively helped Ss understand conversations about friendship. Ss showed good engagement in speaking tasks. However, some Ss might need more practice in using useful expressions naturally. In future lessons, more oral practice with these expressions can be added.
