I. Teaching Objectives
Master the usage of “there is/are” to describe the existence of people or things.
Review and understand the basic sentence patterns (SV, SVO, SVP, SVOO, SVOC).
Improve the ability to use correct sentence structures to talk about school - related topics, enhancing grammatical accuracy and communicative competence.
II. Language Knowledge
1. Key structures
“there is/are” structure: Use “there is” for singular or uncountable nouns, “there are” for plural nouns.
Basic sentence patterns:
SV (Subject + Verb)
SVO (Subject + Verb + Object)
SVP (Subject + Verb + Predicative)
SVOO (Subject + Verb + Indirect Object + Direct Object)
SVOC (Subject + Verb + Object + Complement)
2. Key sentences
There is a boat school.
There are a lot of clubs and activities in our school.

III. Teaching Procedures
Learning activities:
Step 1 Lead - in
Show a picture of a school (with various facilities like a swimming pool, garden, classrooms).
T: Look at this picture. What can you see in the school? Invite Ss to answer using “There is/are...”. Then say: Today, we will learn about the “there is/are” structure and review basic sentence patterns.
Step 2 “there is/are” Learning
Study the rule (Activity C1)
T: Study the blue parts and answer the question: When do we use there is and there are?
Explain the grammar highlights: Use “there is” with singular/uncountable nouns, “there are” with plural nouns; how to form questions and negatives.
Practice (Activity C2)
T: Complete the passage about a student's new school life with there is or there are.
Ask Ss to finish the task independently and then check the answers.
Oral practice (Activity C3)
T: Work in pairs. Ask and answer questions about the picture using “there is/are”.
Divide Ss into pairs and ask them to practice. Then invite some pairs to share their dialogues.

Ask Ss to write sentences and then invite some Ss to share their sentences.
IV. Assessment of Teaching Effectiveness
Assess Ss' mastery of “there is/are” by observing their answers in Activity C2 and dialogues in Activity C3.
Observe whether Ss can identify sentence parts and write correct sentences using basic patterns in Activities C5 and C6.
Evaluate learning outcomes by:
Checking the accuracy of “there is/are” usage in Activity C2.
Assessing the correctness of sentence part identification in Activity C5.
Evaluating the accuracy of self - written sentences in Activity C6.
This lesson helps Ss master the “there is/are” structure and basic sentence patterns, improving grammatical accuracy and ability to talk about school - related topics.
V. Design Purpose
The lead - in activates Ss' prior knowledge about describing school facilities and connects to the lesson topic.
“There is/are” learning includes rule study, written practice, and oral practice, reinforcing the structure's usage. Basic sentence pattern review includes explanation, identification, and sentence writing, helping Ss grasp different structures.

VIII. Teaching Reflection
The activities effectively helped Ss learn the “there is/are” structure and basic sentence patterns. Ss showed good understanding in practice tasks. However, some Ss might still confuse “there is” and “there are” or have difficulty identifying sentence parts. In future lessons, more targeted practice can be provided.
