Dear Lucy,
I'm sorry to hear that you have trouble with your reading exams. And I have some good ideas about reading to share with you.
1. Find a quiet place to read. A soft sofa and suitable temperature in it are enough. As for your tablets, computer and radio, please keep away from them, or you will not focus(集中) on your books.
2. Review your teacher's questions. Before reading, you must know why you read the book, so please read the questions carefully. If you meet new words, you can use a dictionary. But try to guess their meanings instead of using it during reading.
3. Read the introduction of the book before reading. Usually, the introduction covers the main idea of the book. If you catch it before reading, you will understand the book better.
4. Read and take a break to think. If you start to think after finishing the whole book, you may miss some important information. The best way is to finish part of the book, and stop to think about it.
5. Take notes as you read. Each time you stop to think, also make notes of what you have read. And you can review them carefully when you prepare for exams.
If you follow my suggestions(建议), I am sure next time you will get a better reading grade.
Yours,
Anna

Have you heard of study dates? Have you ever found a study date? These days, finding a study date is becoming popular with middle school students. A study date is a person you study with, do homework with, discuss problems with or prepare for exams with, but we don't know him or her before.
The study date culture is about finding the right person to do the right study activity with. Ming, a boy from Sichuan, has met lots of study dates because of his love for math and physics. Having a study date does not only give him company but also helps him learn subjects better.
These study date relationships are very different from close friendships. As for close friends, we need to stay in close contact. With a study date, you don't have to do so. Lots of study dates may not meet again after a study session or an exam together. So, many students believe having a study date makes their study life easier and more comfortable.
Finding a study date shows that middle school students want clearer boundaries(界限) in their study relationships. Study dates will not ask a lot about their personal lives. And they hope these relationships can let them share their study methods and interests, or that they can help them to improve themselves.
Although finding a study date has many good points, we should be careful and put our safety first.
21. How does the writer start the passage?
A. By telling a story. B. By asking questions.
C. By giving numbers. D. By giving an example.
22. How might Ming describe having a study date?
A. Serious. B. Difficult.
C. Pleasant. D. Meaningless.
23. What does the underlined word “it” in Paragraph 3 refer to?
A. Having a study life. B. Preparing for exams together.
C. Staying in close contact. D. Talking about personal life.
24. Why do middle school students like to find a study date?
①To improve themselves.
②To share their study methods and interests.
③To save time and money.
④To have boundaries in their study relationships.
A. ①②③ B. ①②④ C. ①③④ D. ②③④
25. What's the best title for the passage?
A. Some stories of study date B. How we find a study date
C. Study date: special close friends D. Study date: a new popular culture

We often hear people say, “Life is not perfect.” But when problems come to you, what do you do? Are you able to get through hard times?
Zhang Wei has a story to tell. The 14-year-old Shanghai boy once went all out to win the election(竞选) as school monitor. But he failed, which made him rather sad.
“Your favorite books say that as long as you work hard, your wish will come true. But why didn't I make it? Does it mean hard work makes no difference?” He spent some time feeling upset. Then he decided to talk to his classmates to find out why he was not chosen.
“Through the talks, I learned problems with myself that I never noticed before,” said Zhang. “I cheered up again, since I saw what I need to improve. I will fight for the next year.”
Like Zhang Wei, Li Na, a 13-year-old Shanghai girl, used to have difficulties too.
It all started when she was told to learn how to ride a bike. Li hated riding bikes. She didn't practise, so one time she fell off the bike and hurt her leg. Feeling scared, the girl got sad and suddenly decided to learn the sport.
“Now I'm good at riding bikes so that I would never give up halfway again. Now I keep riding bikes, or I had given up then. I would never have learned how much I could enjoy the sport.”

假如你是Wang Tao,你收到来自美国笔友Mike的一封信,请根据信的内容给他回信。
Dear Mike,
Thank you for your letter. Everything goes well these days.
When facing disagreements with parents, communication is key. Try to calm down and explain your dreams patiently. Share why you want to be a scientist—maybe the mystery of nature inspired you. Listen to their worries too (they might fear your future). Finding a middle ground could help, like learning about art as a hobby while studying science.
As for me, I want to be a teacher. I’ll learn more teaching methods and practice teaching daily. My plan is to join teaching clubs and share experiences online.
Hope things work out for you!
Yours,
Wang Tao
