What is the story about? → The story is about a fisherman who hasn't caught anything for months. One day he catches a huge fish, fights hard to kill it, but on the way back, sharks eat the fish, leaving nothing but bones.
Would you like to read it? → (Students' personal answers, e.g., Yes, because it teaches not to give up.)
Discuss answers as a class, focusing on the story content and theme.
Step 2 Chart Completion (15 minutes)
(3b) Task: Students read the book report again and complete the chart:
Book title: The Old Man and the Sea
Writer: Ernest Hemingway
When the writer wrote it: 1952
Prize: Pulitzer Prize (won in 1953)
Main character: A fisherman
Events in the story: The fisherman hasn't caught anything for months. He catches a huge fish, fights for days to kill it. On the way back, sharks eat the fish, leaving bones.
