Unit 3 Section B (1a-2e)教学设计 I. Teaching Objectives Knowledge Objectives Students can master phrases about asking for permission or assigning tasks (e.g., buy some drinks and snacks, borrow some money, clean your room, invite my friends to a party, go to the store, use your CD player, take out the rubbish, make your bed). Students can understand two different viewpoints on whether kids should do chores at home. Students can use phrases from the letters (e.g., a waste of time, there is no need for... to, do not mind, spend time on, in order to, it is not enough to, the earlier... the better) to make sentences. Ability Objectives Students can enhance listening skills by identifying phrases heard in a conversation and filling in a chart. Students can improve reading skills by skimming letters to find main ideas and identifying pros and cons of kids doing chores. Students can develop speaking skills by discussing questions about helping parents and kids doing chores, and asking for help with party tasks. Emotional Objectives Students can think critically about whether kids should do chores and understand the importance of developing independence. II. Key and Difficult Teaching Points Key Points Mastery of phrases about permission and tasks. Comprehending the two letters' viewpoints on kids doing chores. Using phrases from the letters to make sentences. Difficult Points Skimming letters effectively to grasp main ideas. Having in - depth discussions about kids doing chores. III. Teaching Methods Task - based Teaching Method: Design tasks like phrase writing, conversation making, listening comprehension, reading comprehension, sentence making, and discussion. Interactive Teaching Method: Engage students in pair work for discussions, conversation making, and asking for help. Reading - focused Teaching Method: Guide students to skim letters and identify pros and cons. IV. Teaching Aids Multimedia (listening audios, letter texts, vocabulary cards). V. Teaching Procedures (45 minutes) Step 1 Phrase Writing and Conversation Making (10 minutes) (1a) Task: Students write "parents" or "teenagers" next to each phrase: · teenagers · teenagers · parents · teenagers · parents · teenagers · parents · parents (1b) Task: Students use the phrases in 1a to make conversations. Model: Parent: Could you clean your room? Child: Yes, I can. Child: Could I invite my friends to a party? Parent: No, you can't have a party. You have a test on Monday. Practice in pairs. Step 2 Listening Comprehension (10 minutes) (1c & 1d) Tasks: (1c) Play the audio. Students check (✔) the things in 1a that they hear. (1d) Play audio again. Students fill in the chart: Sandy's mom: buy some drinks and snacks Sandy and Dave: clean the living room Play audio again for confirmation. Step 3 Reading: Letters about Chores (10 minutes) (2b) Task: Students skim the letters to determine which one agrees and which one disagrees that young people should do chores at home. Ms. Miller disagrees; Mr. Smith agrees. (2c) Task: Students list pros and cons about kids doing chores according to Ms. Miller and Mr. Smith: Pros: Doing chores helps to develop children's independence. It teaches children how to look after themselves. It helps children understand the idea of fairness. The earlier kids learn to be independent, the better it is for their future. Cons: Housework is a waste of children's time. Kids already have enough stress from school. They should spend their time on schoolwork to get good grades and get into a good university. When kids get older, they will have to do housework, so there is no need for them to do it now. It is the parents' job to provide a clean and comfortable environment at home for their children. Step 4 Sentence Making and Discussion (10 minutes) (2d) Task: Students write one sentence with each phrase from the letters: Playing computer games all day is a waste of time. There is no need for you to worry about him. I do not mind helping you with your homework. She spends a lot of time on her hobbies. He studies hard in order to get good grades. It is not enough to just know the theory; you need to practice. The earlier you start, the better result you will get. (2e) Task: Students discuss questions with a partner: Example: I agree with Mr. Smith's letter. Because I think doing chores can help kids learn life skills and become more independent, which is good for their future. Example: To the person who wrote the letter I don't agree with (Ms. Miller), I would say that doing chores is not just about doing housework. It's also a way for kids to learn responsibility and how to contribute to the family. It can also make them appreciate what their parents do for them. Step 5 Summary and Homework (5 minutes) Summary: Recap phrases about permission and tasks, the two viewpoints on kids doing chores, and phrases from the letters. Homework: Write a short paragraph stating your opinion on whether kids should do chores at home, using at least three phrases from 2d. Role - play a conversation with your parent about doing chores, using "Could you please...?" and phrases from 1a. 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
