第一节(共15小题;每小题2.5分,满分37.5分)
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C和D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。
The easy way out isn't always easiest.I learned that lesson when I decided to treat Doug,my
husband of one month,to a special meal.I looked through my cookbook and chose a menu which
included homemade bread.Knowing the bread would take time,I started on it as soon as Doug left
for work.As I was not experienced in cooking,I thought if a dozen was good, two dozen would be
better,so I doubled everything. As Doug loved oranges,I also opened a can of orange and poured it
all into the bowl.Soon there was a sticky dough()covered with ugly yellowish marks.Realizing
I had failed,I put the dough in the rubbish bin outside so I wouldn't have to face Doug laughing at
my work.
I went on preparing the rest of the meal and, when Doug got home,we sat down to Cornish
chicken with rice.He tried to enjoy the meal but seemed disturbed.Twice he got up and went outside,
saying he thought he heard a noise. The third time he left,I went to the windows to see what he was
doing.Looking out,I saw Doug standing about three feet from the rubbish bin, holding the lid up
with a stick and looking into the container. When I came out of the house,he dropped the stick and
explained that there was something alive in our rubbish bin.Picking up the stick again,he held the
lid up enough for me to see.I felt cold. But I stepped closer and looked harder.Without doubt it was
my work. The hot sun had caused the dough to double in size and the fermenting yeast()made
the surface shake and sigh as though it were breathing.I had to admit what the "living thing"was
and why it was there.I don't know who was more embarrassed by the whole thing-Doug or me.
21.The writer's purpose in writing this story is
A.to tell an interesting experience
B.to show the easiest way out of a difficulty

A.The canned orange had gone bad.
B.She didn't use the right kind of flour.
C.The cookbook was hard to understand.
D.She did not follow the instructions closely
23.Why did the woman put the dough in the rubbish bin?
A.She didn't see the use of keeping it.
B.She meant to joke with her husband.
C.She didn't want her husband to see it.
D.She hoped it would soon dry in the sun.
24.What made the dough in the bin look frightening?
A.That it looked alive
B.The strange-looking marks.
C.Its shape.
D.Its size.

Let Moments Inspire(微励)You
When I was a teenager I volunteered to work at the water station at a 10,000m race.My job was
to hand out water to the runners.I remember being so excited to see all the different kinds of people
who passed by and grabbed a cup of water.I saw so many types of people doing it.I thought maybe I
could do it too!So the next year I signed up for the race.
第3页共8页
That first 10,000m race was quite an experience. At times,I didn't know if I could finish. Then
came a defining moment. At one point near the end,a 70-year-old man ran past me,very fast and I
felt embarrassed that I was 50 years younger than he and I couldn't even keep up with him.I felt
defeated for a second. But then I realized something. He was running his race and I was running
mine.He had different abilities, experience, training and goals for himself.I had mine.Remember
my goal was only to finish. After a minute,it hit me that this was a lesson I could draw from.I
learned something about myself in that moment.I tumned my embarrassment into inspiration.I
decided that I would not give up on running races. In fact,I would run even more races and I would
learn how to train and prepare properly and one day I would be one of those 70-year-olds who was
still running. As I crossed the finish line,I was proud of my accomplishment.

Liverpool,my hometown,is a special city.It is so unique that in 2004 it became a World
Heritage(遗产)Site.
I recently returned to my home city and my first stop was at a museum on the River Mersey.
Blanketed in mist ()Victorian architecture rose from the banks of the river, responded to the
sounds of sea-birds,and appeared unbelievably charming. When I headed toward the centre,I found
myself surrounded by buildings that mirror the best palaces of Europe. It is not hard to imagine why,
on first seeing the city, most visitors would be overpowered by the beauty of the noble buildings,
which are solid signs of Liverpool's history.
As if to stress its cultural role,Liverpool has more museums and galleries than most cities in
Britain. At Walker Art Gallery,I was told that it has the best collections of Victorian paintings in the
world, and is the home of modern art in the north of England. However, culture is more than galleries.
Liverpool offers many music events. As Britain's No.I music city,it has the biggest city music
festival in Europe, and its musicians are famous all over the world.Liverpool is also well-known for
its football and other sports events.Every year, the Mersey River Festival attracts thousands of
visitors, making the city a place of wonder.
As you would expect from such a city, there are restaurants serving food from around the world.
When my trip was about to complete,I chose to rest my legs in Liverpool's famous Philharmonic
pub(酒馆).It is a monument(纪念碑)to perfection,and a heritage attraction itself.
Being a World Heritage Site,my home city is certainly a place of"outstanding universal value".
It is a treasure house with plenty of secrets for the world to explore.

Everyone is born into a family, but not everyone gets a healthy one.Why is family important?
What kind ofimpact does it have on a person in their childhood and as a grown-up?Here are four
reasons why family is important:
1.Families set the stage for future relationships.
The very first relationships a child has are with their parents and any siblings(兄弟姐
)36 It's often not a decision they are aware of,but people often choose partners and friends
based on how similar they are to their family.
2.During hard times, people need a family they can depend on.
37 This can be emotional or financial(情感的或金钱的)suppo1t.Someone going through
hard times will turn to their family if they trust them to provide encouragement and love.
3.Quality time with family is connected to better academic performance.
Columbia University did a series of studies on family dinner time. One study showed that kids
who ate dinner with their family less than three times were twice as likely to get Cs or below in
school.38 Of course, there are other things at play, but families that value dinners together likely
value other positive family communications.
4.39
Families are the first place where children learn how to manage their emotions and communicate
with others.Parents are responsible for guiding their children and providing life lessons that will be
remembered for years to come.40
A.Families teach important life lessons
B.When life gets hard, people need support
C.When families are strong, communities are strong.
D.These lessons form a big part of a person's worldview.
E.Family relationships are connected to a person's health

第二节读后续写
Just at that moment,a young man showed up.He looked tired and
wore a worn-out apron,wiping the dusty tables slowly.When he
saw Jean,he stopped and asked in surprise,"Can I help you,
madam?"Jean smiled and said,"I'm Jean.I used to come here with
my father on my fourteenth birthday. The young man's eyes lit
up,"You mean Mr.Miller's daughter?I'm Carl,the owner's son.
Since my father passed away, the restaurant has been struggling.
We can't attract customers anymore.Jean felt a pang of sadness
and thought of her dream and the kindness she once received here.
She said firmly,"Carl,I'm a chef now.Let me help you save
Fargoneti's."
Jean promised to stay and help.First, she checked the kitchen
and revised the menu, keeping the classic dishes that carried
memories and adding new ones with fresh ingredients. She also
taught Carl and the few remaining staff new cooking skills and
how to improve service.Word spread quickly that a famous chef
was helping Fargoneti's.Soon, customers started pouring in.On
Jean's father's birthday, the restaurant was full of laughter.
Her father sat at the same table as years ago, tears in his eyes,
while Jean and Carl served delicious food.Jean finally realized
that her true dream wasn't just to be a great chef, but to pass
on kindness and warmth through food.
