These days, talking on the phone isn’t as common because many people like to use messaging apps like WeChat. However, sometimes you have to make a call. For some people, this can be really scary. They might feel their hearts racing just at the thought of making a call. If this sounds like you, you might have telephobia—a fear of talking on the phone.
Telephobia is a kind of social anxiety (社交焦虑). Some people feel comfortable talking to others in person, but they may get nervous talking on the phone. When we talk face to face, we can see each other’s faces and body language. This can help us understand what they mean. But on the phone, we can’t see those things. As a result, we can feel nervous and forget what to say or sound stupid.
There are ways to help make phone calls easier if you have telephobia. The first is to smile before making a call. It may sound funny, but smiling can help you feel more relaxed. Another one is to think about how the call will go. Think about what you want to say and make a plan. ▲ Finally, if you get a call and don’t feel ready to answer, that’s OK! You can call the person back later when you feel more comfortable.
So remember, talking on the phone doesn’t need to be scary. With practice and a little preparation (准备), you can make phone calls easily (容易地)!

Rose is my good friend. She told me that she would come to Japan for vacation in July. But she was very anxious. She said she didn’t know what to do in Japanese restaurants. I had to ask her to understand these table manners and tell her what to do in the restaurant.
Some restaurants in Japan have tatami floor (榻榻米地板). When you step in a restaurant, you must take off your shoes. When you sit at the table, you will receive a small wet cloth at most Japanese restaurants. Use this to wash your hands before eating, then carefully fold it and set it aside on the table. Don’t use it as a napkin, or to touch any part of your face.
Before and after a meal, it is important to say traditional thank-you words. You can make a little noise when you eat. For example, it is common to make some slurping noises while eating noodles. Japanese can say it tastes better if you slurp. For sushi, you should eat up. It is polite to lift small bowls of rice or soup when you eat. After you finish your meal, it is good manners to restore all your dishes to the way they were at the beginning of the meal. For example, you can put chopsticks back on the chopsticks shelf. I think these manners are helpful to her.
23. What must Rose take off when she steps on tatami floor?
A. Her socks. B. Her coat. C. Her shoes.
24. What does the underlined word “it” in Paragraph 2 refer to (指代)?
A. The restaurant. B. The wet cloth. C. The pair of shoes.
25. Which of the following are good table manners in Japan?
① say traditional phrases of thanks before eating
② make noises all the time
③ lift small bowls of rice on the table
④ eat the whole sushi
⑤ put the chopsticks on the bowl after dinner
A. ①②③ B. ①③④ C. ②③④
26. In Paragraph 3, we can learn ________.
A. how to order in a restaurant
B. how to pay in a restaurant
C. table manners when eating in a Japanese restaurant

【24题详解】
词义猜测题。根据“When you sit at the table, you will receive a small wet cloth at most Japanese restaurants. Use this to wash your hands before eating, then carefully fold it and set it aside on the table.”可知,it指代的是前文提到的湿巾。故选B。
【25题详解】
细节理解题。根据“Before and after a meal, it is important to say traditional thank-you words.”可知,在用餐前后,说传统的感谢语是很重要的;根据“It is polite to lift small bowls of rice or soup when you eat.”可知,吃饭时举起小碗米饭或汤是有礼貌的;根据“For sushi, you should eat up.”可知,对于寿司,你应该把它吃掉。所以①③④是良好的餐桌礼仪。故选B。

阅读短文,根据短文内容,完成下列各题。
Kush lived in a small town in the UK. He liked to take adventures (冒险). One day he went to climb a mountain far away from his town. At the foot of the mountain he met a boy called Rama. Rama lived nearby and knew a lot about the mountain. He said that the mountain was very dangerous and that there were many natural disasters here these days. He advised Kush to go back, but Kush didn’t take his words seriously. Rama worried about him and decided to climb with him.
When they reached halfway up the mountain, they heard a loud noise. To their surprise, they saw a huge wave of water coming towards them. Seeing the water, Rama shouted, “It’s a flood.” He ran quickly to a tree and climbed up it before the water could reach him. But Kush could not help himself. Rama watched helplessly (无助地) as the water took Kush away. Unexpectedly, Kush got hold of a broken tree piece and hung on tight (紧紧地). When the water went down a little, Rama swam over and saved him. Kush looked at Rama thankfully and said sorry for his mistake. ▲

Some people feel comfortable talking to others in person but they may get nervous talking on the phone.

① say traditional phrases of thanks before eating
② make noises all the time
③ lift small bowls of rice on the table
④ eat the whole sushi
⑤ put the chopsticks on the bowl after dinner
A. ①②③ B. ①③④ C. ②③④
26. In Paragraph 3, we can learn ________.
A. how to order in a restaurant
B. how to pay in a restaurant
C. table manners when eating in a Japanese restaurant
