V. Teaching Procedures(总时长 45 分钟)
Step 1 Group Animal Description and Guessing (10 minutes)
3a: Describing and Guessing Animals
Students work in groups. Take turns to think of an animal, describe it using characteristics (e.g., “It's a land animal. It's big and has a long trunk.”), and guess each other's animals. Write the guessed animals in the table under “Land”, “Water”, or “Sky”. Walk around to assist with animal descriptions and vocabulary use.
Step 2 Zoo Design (15 minutes)
3b: Choosing Animals for the Zoo
Groups choose some of the animals from 3a for their zoo and give reasons (e.g., “We choose elephants because they are interesting and people love them.”). Discuss within groups, ensuring a variety of animals and clear reasoning.
Step 3 Map Drawing and Presentation Preparation (10 minutes)
3c: Drawing Zoo Maps and Preparing Presentations
Groups draw a map of their zoo, including areas for chosen animals, restrooms, food, gifts, entrance, and exit. Use the expressions in the box to prepare presentations: “Welcome to our zoo!”, “This is... / These are...”, “Here you can see...”, “There is / are...”, “These animals are...”, “We like... because they are...”. Walk around to assist with map drawing and script writing.
Step 4 Class Presentation and Voting (8 minutes)
3c: Presenting Zoo Designs
Each group presents their zoo design to the class using the prepared scripts and maps. After all groups present, the class votes for the zoo they like best. Encourage students to give reasons for their votes (e.g., “I like Group 1's zoo because it has a good variety of animals and clear signs.”).
Step 5 Reflecting (2 minutes)
Reflecting Section
Students assess themselves using the “How well can you do these things?” table. Tick “Very well”, “OK”, or “Needs work” for each item: talking about different animals, explaining likes/dislikes about animals, talking about the importance of animals, thinking of ways to care for animals.
Discuss briefly as a class, with students sharing one thing they think they did well in the project and one thing they want to improve.
Step 6 Summary and Homework
Summary: Recap animal and zoo - related vocabulary, key introduction sentences, and the importance of group collaboration in project work.
Homework:
Write a short paragraph about the zoo you liked best and why.
Think of one more way to care for animals in zoos and share it in the next class.
