Unit 4 My Favourite Subject (3a - 3d)教学设计 I. Teaching Aims Knowledge Aims Students can master the conjunctions and, but, because and understand their usages: because for giving reasons, and for adding ideas, but for showing contrasting ideas. Students can use and, but, because correctly to connect clauses and form coherent sentences. Ability Aims Students can enhance reading and writing skills by completing statements, matching sentence parts, and filling in passages with and, but, because. Students can improve speaking skills by conducting a class survey about favourite school days and subjects, then sharing findings. Emotional Aims Students can appreciate the logical connections in language and feel confident in using conjunctions to express ideas clearly. II. Teaching Key Points and Difficult Points Key Points Correct understanding and usage of and, but, because. Accurately using conjunctions to complete sentences and passages. Difficult Points Choosing the appropriate conjunction (and, but, because) based on sentence logic. Conducting a survey and clearly sharing survey results using conjunctions. III. Teaching Methods Inductive Teaching Method: Guide students to discover conjunction rules by analyzing example sentences. Task - based Teaching Method: Design reading, writing, and speaking tasks (completing statements, matching, passage filling, survey) to help students master conjunctions. Interactive Teaching Method: Encourage students to interact through pair work, class discussions, and surveys. IV. Teaching Aids Sentence strips for matching practice. Survey worksheets. V. Teaching Procedures Step 1 Review (5 minutes) Show example sentences with and, but, because (e.g., “I like art and music.” “Maths is hard but useful.” “I love PE because it's fun.”). Ask students to identify the conjunctions and explain their roles briefly. Step 2 3a: Understanding Conjunction Usages (8 minutes) Ask students to read the sentences in 3a. Instruct them to find out when to use and, but, because, then complete the statements. Walk around to check. Then, invite students to share answers: “1. We use 'because' to give a reason. 2. We use 'and' to give another idea. 3. We use 'but' to give two different ideas.” Summarize the usages: because reason; and addition; but contrast. Step 3 3b: Matching Sentence Parts (10 minutes) Explain the task: Match the two parts to make sentences, using knowledge of and, but, because. Do the first sentence as a model: “1. I have a bicycle, _” E (but I often walk to school) – explain “but” shows contrast between having a bicycle and often walking. Let students work individually to finish the rest. Walk around to assist, asking students to explain their choices (e.g., “For '2. I like to learn about IT _', F (because it's fun to learn to use computers) is correct because 'because' gives the reason for liking IT.”). Check answers as a class. Step 4 3c: Filling in the Passage (10 minutes) Show the passage. Read it aloud once. Ask students to complete the passage with and, but, or because. Remind them to consider sentence logic. After students finish, check answers one by one. For each conjunction, ask: “Why did you choose 'because' here? (Point to 'I love Thursday afternoons _ we have a fun class then.')” to ensure understanding. Step 5 3d: Conducting a Survey (7 minutes) Explain the task: Do a survey in class using the questions: “Which is your favourite school day? What subjects do you have that day? What subjects on that day do you like and why? Who likes the same subjects as you and why?” Model with a student: “A: Which is your favourite school day? B: Friday. A: What subjects do you have that day? B: English, art and PE. A: What subjects do you like and why? B: I like art because it's creative. A: Who likes the same subjects as you and why? B: Lily likes art too because she thinks it's relaxing.” Have students work in pairs. Walk around to provide support, encouraging them to use and, but, because in their conversations. Invite 2 - 3 pairs to share their survey conversations with the class. Step 6 Summary and Homework (5 minutes) Summary: Recap the usages of and (addition), but (contrast), because (reason). Emphasize choosing conjunctions based on sentence meaning. Homework: Write a short paragraph about your favourite school day, using and, but, because at least twice. Ask your family members about their favourite subjects when they were at school and why, then write down the conversations using conjunctions. 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
