Learn to Deal with Negative Emotions
Last month, I failed an important exaam. I felt really sad.
To deal with these negative emotions, first, I communicated with my teacher. She gave me useful advice on study methods. Then, I started taking exercise regularly, like jogging in the morning. It helped me relax and regain energy. Dealing with negative emotions properly is important. It helps solve problems. By talking to others, we can get solutions. Also, it avoids causing more trouble. If we keep negative feelings inside, they may lead to worse situations.
Let’s learn to handle negative emotions and live a healthier life.a

Dear Debbie,
I’m not good at communicating with others, so my classmates don’t like talking to me. When my best friend isn’t there, I just sit at my desk quietly. I’m not good enough for anyone. I just want to die. My parents think I’m fine, and I don’t want to worry them. But I started crying in class today. What should I do?
Amy
Dear Amy,
I was like you four years ago. I think we live in a world where we often compare ourselves with others. I think you should really look at yourself in the mirror and try praising (表扬) yourself. It helped you love yourself more. You know, almost everyone experiences those feelings many times in their lives. Surprised? But it’s true.
Many people think you are good enough. I am one of them. I am sure your parents and your friends feel the same. Go outside and try to hang out with people. Make small steps.
Lastly, talk with a psychiatrist (心理医生). And trust your psychiatrist. If you can’t trust him or her, then you may get the wrong person. Find another one.

Nothing makes you feel better than a bowl of warm porridge, especially when the weather is getting cooler. Years ago, people from across the world got together in Scotland for the World PorridgeMaking Championship (锦标赛). Adam Kiani from Pakistan won the main prize, which was for the best traditional porridge. The competitors could only use three food materials in the porridge—oatmeal (燕麦片), water and salt. So is oat porridge, a cheap and healthy meal often eaten for breakfast, just the same as zhou?
Both zhou and oat porridge have long histories as main foods. But you can do more with zhou than oat porridge. In China, you can find shops that only sell zhou! From rice and other grains, you can have sweet and delicious zhou in these shops. And many things, like goji berries, red dates, and meat or vegetables, can be added to zhou. This also means that it’s good for breakfast, lunch or dinner. But in the West, it’s different. You can hardly find a shop that only sells porridge. Unlike zhou, which takes at least 10 minutes to cook, oat porridge just needs boiling water. With oat porridge, people mainly add fruit, milk or honey to serve it sweet. Oat porridge is more filling than most zhou, which is probably why it is a stand-alone (独立的) breakfast meal, but zhou could be part of a bigger meal.
So which one is better? I’m not sure. But I am sure that the world is a better place with zhou and oat porridge.
50.Where was the World Porridge Making Championship held years ago?
A.In Pakistan. B.In China. C.In Scotland.

If you were born in the 2000s, you are called the oh-ohs. That would make you young, creative, connected, world-wide, and no doubt smart. Maybe good-looking, too.
Right? But what do other people think about your generation (一代)?
Some adults worry that you’re more interested in the screen in front of you than the world around you. They think of you as the “face-down generation” because you use your phone so much. They wonder how you will deal with school, friends, and family.
Other adults worry that today’s youth are spoilt (溺爱) and don’t want to face the challenges of adult life. Many children born in the 1990s and 2000s were raised by “helicopter (直升机) parents”. They were always there to guide and help their children with a busy program filled with homework and after-school activities such as dancing, drawing, or sports. With parents who do everything for them, today’s youth seem to prefer to live like teenagers even when they are in their 20s or 30s.
Does the face-down generation need a heads-up? Well, probably not. The fact is that many of today’s teenagers are better educated and more creative than past generations. They seem to be willing to become leaders. More young people than ever volunteer to help their communities. There are also brave young people such as Malala Yousafzai, the teenager who won the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize for pushing girls’ rights to go to school.
So if you’re one of the oh-ohs, there’s reason to be hopeful about the future. Things are looking up for the face-down generation. Chances are that you do great and laugh out loud.
54.What is the main purpose of Paragraph 1?
A.To show a social problem.
B.To start a discussion.
C.To introduce the topic.
55.According to the text, which of the following may worry some adults?
A.Oh-ohs’ poor eyesight.
B.Oh-ohs’ busy timetable.
C.Oh-ohs’ shortage of independence.
56.What do “helicopter parents” do for their children?
A.They help them to face the challenges.
B.They guide and plan everything for them.
C.They keep them away from after-school activities.
57.What can we learn from the text?
A.The writer is one of the oh-ohs.
B.Oh-ohs are probably to have a bright future.
C.Oh-ohs will meet more challenges than adults.

第二节 (共5个小题:每小题2分,满分10分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后框内选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有一项为多余选项。
Diving underwater (水下潜水) is exciting, but it can be dangerous in many ways. So organizations like PADI (国际专业潜水教练协会) offer training courses to make sure divers can enjoy themselves safely underwater.
From a young age, Mia DaPonte learned that her mother was a diver. 58 But the minimum age (最低年龄) to start diver training is 10.
Starting on her 10th birthday, Mia got serious. Mia lives in Rhode Island, where the oceans are cold. 59 Mia’s diving teachers were impressed with her energy and drive. “She sets her mind to something and she gets it done,” said one of her diving teachers. Over the next two years, Mia kept at it. She not only practised diving, but also took several other courses where she learned different skills, including first aid and how to find her way underwater. 60
In February, Mia and her family travelled to Mexico, where she made her first night dive. Over the next week, Mia did most of the training needed for the last two courses.
61 Mia completed three dives in one day, including a deep dive to 17.5 meters underwater. The hardest part was showing she could raise an injured adult diver to the surface and take the steps needed to help him breathe again.
Mia says she feels proud to have become a Master Scuba Diver (名仕潜水员). The 12-year-old is now New England’s youngest girl to earn the title. Most divers, even adults, never complete this level of training. 62 She’s prepared to take on more training as a diver.
In the future, Mia hopes to become a marine biologist (海洋生物学家). She’s quite interested in tagging, tracking and studying sharks!
A.But she doesn’t plan to stop there.
B.But she didn’t let that stop her.
C.Mia also learned about how to recognize different fish.
D.She wanted to become a diver as well.
E.It is a perfect place to practice diving.
F.That training was challenging.
【答案】58.D 59.B 60.C 61.F 62.A
【解析】本文讲述了Mia DaPonte受母亲影响,从10岁开始潜水训练,克服罗德岛寒冷海域等困难,在潜水学习中不断进步,12岁成为名仕潜水员。
58.根据“her mother was a diver.”
59.根据“Rhode Island, where the oceans are cold.”
60.根据“different skills, including first aid and how to find her way underwater”可知,前文说她参加其他课程学习不同技能,比如急救、水下找路等,选项C“Mia还学习了如何识别不同的鱼”,“also”承接前文学习的其他技能,继续补充学习内容,符合语境。故选C。
61.根据“Mia completed three dives in one day, including a deep dive to 17.5 meters underwater. The hardest part was...”
62.根据“Mia says she feels proud”以及“She’s prepared to take on more training as a diver.”,前文说她成为名仕潜水员很自豪,后文说她准备接受更多潜水训练,所以此处是说她不打算就此停止。选项A“但她不打算在这就停下”,起到承上启下作用,符合语境。故选A。

I say these things because I was in your shoes once. I was ready to die. But years later, I’m here and talking to you about it. Don’t give up.
Debbie

51.According to Paragraph 1, what could the competitors use in the porridge?
A.Milk, fruit and honey. B.Oatmeal, water and salt. C.Meat, vegetables and goji berries.
52.How does the writer develop his / her idea in Paragraph 2?
A.By telling a story. B.By giving an example. C.By comparing two things.
53.What may be the best title for the passage?
A.Oat Porridge and Zhou
B.The Best Traditional Porridge
C.The World Porridge Making Championship
(C)

E.It is a perfect place to practice diving.

I say these things because I was in your shoes once. I was ready to die. But years later, I’m here and talking to you about it. Don’t give up.
Debbie

A.By telling a story. B.By giving an example. C.By comparing two things.

C.The World Porridge Making Championship
