Li Shizhen used to help his father in his medical practice when he was young. Li Shizhen’s father wanted him to enter politics (从政). Li Shizhen studied for the exams and passed the country—level examination, but he was never able to pass the imperial (皇家的) examination.
When he was 38, he saved the son of the Prince of Chu and was invited to be an official in that court (宫廷). A few years later, he became an official at the Imperial Medical Institute.
Even though he realized his father’s dream, he didn’t want to continue working for the court.
One year later, he left the court and returned to be a doctor again.
Li Shizhen was famous for his book, Compendium of Materia Medica (《本草纲目》). He spent 27 years writing the book. Unluckily, Li Shizhen died before the book officially came out. It is such a successful book. Now it is still one of the most important medical books in China.

Communication is more than just words. Across the globe, people use body language—gestures, facial expressions, and postures—to express feelings and ideas. However, these silent signals can mean very different things depending on where you are.
In many Western countries, a firm handshake is a common greeting that shows confidence. In Japan, people often bow instead. The deeper the bow, the more respect shown. Meanwhile, in India, pressing palms together near the chest (called Namaste) is a traditional sign of welcome. Eye contact also varies widely. While direct eye contact is seen as honest in the United States, in some Asian and African cultures, avoiding eye contact is a sign of respect, especially when speaking to elders.
Gestures with hands can be particularly tricky. For example, the “thumbs-up” gesture is positive in Europe but rude in parts of the Middle East. In Greece, waving with an open palm is rude, as it looks like a gesture called the moutza, which is used to insult (侮辱) others. Even nodding and shaking the head don’t always mean “yes” and “no.” In Bulgaria, nodding means “no,” while shaking the head side to side means “yes.”
Personal space preferences also differ. In Latin America, people tend (倾向) to stand closer during conversations, while North Americans prefer about an arm’s length of distance. Touching someone’s head in Thailand is considered deeply disrespectful, as the head is viewed as sacred (神圣的).
Understanding these differences is important in today’s globalized world. Misreading body language can lead to misunderstandings, but learning these unspoken rules helps build trust and connection.
11. In India, what traditional gesture is used to show welcome?
A. A firm handshake. B. Bowing deeply.
C. Pressing palms together near the chest. D. Avoiding eye contact.
12. What does the “thumbs-up” gesture mean in parts of the Middle East?
A. Approval. B. Happy. C. Impolite. D. Confusion.
13. Which gesture is used to insult others in Greece?
A. Nodding. B. Waving with an open palm.
C. Bowing deeply. D. Shaking hands firmly.
14. In Thailand, why is touching someone’s head considered disrespectful?
A. Because it symbolizes aggression.
B. Because the head is viewed as sacred.
C. Because it is a way to greet strangers.
D. Because it shows lack of confidence.
15. What is the main purpose of the passage?
A To compare spoken and unspoken languages.
B. To explain how globalization affects communication.
C. To highlight cultural differences in body language.
D. To criticize misunderstandings between cultures.

China is making efforts to help people manage their weight and lead healthier lives. The government has started a three-year “Weight Management Year” program from 2024 to 2027 to fight against obesity, which can lead to serious health illnesses. Here’s what you should know about the latest instructions.
Firstly, it is necessary to check your BMI (Body Mass Index). For adults, a healthy BMI is from 18.5 to 24. If your BMI is between 24 and 28, you are overweight; a BMI of 28 or higher is considered obesity. Moreover, you need to know the size of your waist: men should keep it under 90 cm, and women under 85 cm.
Eating right is important, and exercise matters just as much! When it comes to diet, choose whole grains like brown rice, fresh vegetables, and high-protein foods such as fish, chicken, or beans. Keep away from fried foods and high-sugar snacks, and also reduce your salt and oil intake. To our surprise, the instructions even include some local dishes—like the “stewed fish” from Northeast China or the “noodles with pepper oil” from the Northwest.
When it comes to exercise, you are advised to do sports like walking, cycling or dancing for 150—300 minutes each week, plus strength exercises twice a week. If you find yourself sitting for a few hours while studying, make sure to stand up and stretch for 3—5 minutes every hour.
In addition to diet and exercise, small daily habits can also help. Teens should get 7 hours of sleep nightly, as poor sleep can increase weight, too. Try eating vegetables first, then meat, and finally rice or bread during meals to control the amount of food.
Schools and hospitals are also giving a helping hand. For example, schools across the country are encouraged to provide at least a P. E. class a day. Hospitals have set up special “weight management clinics”, where doctors provide personalized diet and exercise plans. By 2030, China hopes to slow down the growth of obesity through education and support.
Remember, losing weight isn’t about going for perfection—only start with small changes, like drinking water instead of other drinks or taking the stairs instead of the elevator. With these small steps, everyone can build a healthier future
(The word “obesity” means a condition of being too fat.)
(The word “waist” means the middle part of the human body.)
16. If a man’s BMI is 30, what do you know about him?
A. He is in good health B. He needs to lose some weight
C. He has a perfect body shape D. He must go to hospital
17. What can we infer from the text about the relationship between sleep and weight?
A. Longer sleep always leads to weight loss.
B. Sleep has nothing to do with weight.
C. Adults need less sleep than teens to control their weight.
D. Enough sleep helps teens keep a healthy weight.
18. How long will the weight management program last?
A. 3 B. 4 C. 6 D. 8
19. Which of the following best shows the structure of the passage? (①=Paragraph 1②=Paragraph 2…)
A. B. C. D.
20. What is the best title for this passage?
A. The Importance of Eating Right B. Disadvantages of Obesity
C. Chinese Healthy Lifestyle D. China’s Weight Management Instructions

The idea of “gap days” has appeared on social media platforms recently. Unlike a gap year, a gap day means a really short period of relaxation and ____36____ (run) away from everyday busy work. Apart from gap days, so far, other similar ____37____ (express) have made a hit on the Internet, like “city walk”, “dazi (activity partner)” and so on.
Some people think that these kinds of new phrases ____38____ (be) what people need. “For example, people used to use ‘taking a walk’, but now ‘city walk’ is the positive expression of it.” said Zhou Yaokai, “It’s the same with ‘gap day’. Instead ____39____ ‘lying flat’, people are actively trying to balance ____40____ (they) stress and life, which is a good way.”
Others disagree, however, and think that it’s simply just a kind of “sugaring up” (粉饰), meeting one’s need for showing off. For example, “city walk” is the same as “taking a walk”. But people feel ____41____ (good) by calling it a “city walk”. Wu Ruilin is afraid that such new phrases ____42____ (cover) the risks behind it, such as safety problem. “For example, some young people are searching for ‘dazi’, which is ____43____ (normal) enjoyed alone or with close friends, like traveling and games. ____44____ most ‘dazi’ are just strangers, that may bring problems.” said Wu.
But no matter what we think of these phrases, they have already taken root in our daily lives. So we need _____45_____ (keep) a level head and not make them out to be bigger than they actually are.
第三部分 书面表达 (共两节,计25分)
第一节 阅读表达 (共5小题,计5分)
阅读下面短文,并根据短文内容回答问题。
Most of us spend all day at school or work. After a long and busy day, all we want to do is to return to a comfortable home. Smart technology can turn any home into a nicer place to live in.
Smart homes have been around for some time. A company called Picosystem Electronics invented a type of technology called X10 in 1975. As the earliest smart home technology, it allows household devices (家用设备), such as lights and alarms, to communicate with each other by using radio waves.
Of course, 5G network connectivity (网络连接) has made smart homes much more complicated (复杂的) than X10. Perhaps the most popular smart home technology is the voice-activated assistant (语音助手). Users are allowed to communicate with almost any device in their homes simply by saying a few words. This is especially convenient for children and people with disabilities, as the devices can help them finish tasks that would normally be too difficult.
Common household devices can become “smart” as well. For example, smart fridges can create dinner recipes with the vegetables that are being kept inside.
Smart homes are convenient and they can make people live better. They are also good for the environment. By regularly checking your energy use, turning off lights and other devices that you’re not using, smart homes can lower much electricity you use. Using less energy means that we use fewer natural resources, which is good for the environment. But there are still many people who don’t like them. They think smart homes cost much money and sometimes they are not safe.
