Have you ever seen herons (鹭)? Recently, people can see herons use bread or insects (昆虫) to catch fish in the parks. This is just one of the ways birds have changed their living habits because of humans' activities. Now, a new study has found that birds change their habits in some ways are not easy to die out. These changes may include adding new food to their diet and developing new hunting skills. They can also live in a new environment.
Scientists studied reports of new behaviors (行为) among different kinds of birds around the world. The study included more than 3,800 new behaviors among 8,600 kinds of birds. They found that the more new hunting skills the birds learned, the larger population they had.
However, scientists also found that “evolution” can only protect birds from changes in their living place, but not from over-hunting or the danger from other animals. For example, some animals are very dangerous to some birds; snakes can eat little birds; some hungry mice may eat birds’ eggs. ▲ . They always take up too much space, cut down trees and even cause pollution.
This shows that, unlike what is usually believed, the ability to learn protects birds from some but not all of the rapid changes in the environment.
31. How does the writer start the passage?
A. By telling a story. B. By asking questions.
C. By introducing the causes. D. By listing some numbers.
32. Which picture shows the result of the study in Paragraph 2?
A. B. C. D.
33. What does the underlined word “evolution” mean in Paragraph 3?
A. Development. B. Pollution. C. Collection. D. Agreement.
34. Which of the following can be put in “ ▲ ” in Paragraph 3?
A. The changes are bad for their lives.
B. The animals communicate better with each other.
C. Above all, humans bring the greatest danger to birds.
D. The development leads to a better living environment.
35. What is the main idea of the passage?
A. Humans often help birds to change themselves.
B. The birds’ ability can help protect them from all danger.
C. Scientists discovered some new kinds of birds in the world.
D. The changes of birds’ living habits protect themselves in some way.
B 32. C 33. A 34. C 35. D
文章开头以“Have you ever seen herons? Recently, people can see herons use bread or insects to catch fish in the parks.”
根据“They found that the more new hunting skills the birds learned, the larger population they had.”
根据“They found that the more new hunting skills the birds learned, the larger population they had.”以及“However, scientists also found that ‘evolution’ can only protect birds from changes in their living place”可知,鸟类掌握的技能越多,它们的数量就越多,但是“进化”只能保护鸟类免受其生活环境变化的影响,所以,故此处划线部分和development意义相近。故选A。
空白处后的句子“They always take up too much space, cut down trees and even cause pollution.”
C
