教学实施过程:
1. Have students look at the title as well as the picture beside it and answer the following
Question: What do you think the blog post is mainly about?
The blog post might be mainly about the microorganisms and how they affect human health.
These invisible microorganisms live in and on our body in many different kinds of forms.
2. Have students answer the two questions on page 44 before reading the blog post.
1)As microorganisms are so tiny and numerous, I think they can be found everywhere. They
live in water, soil and air, and on all objects. They are also found on and inside our body.
2) Microorganisms benefit us in various ways. For example, they are used to make certain
foods we enjoy like cheese and yoghurt. Others harm us by making us ill like the viruses that
cause the common cold and the flu.
3. Have students read the blog post and finish A1 on page 46.
Para. 2: Our microorganisms come from our mother as well as the external environment.
Para. 5: Microorganisms can be used to improve human health.
Para. 6: The world of microorganisms is filled with possibilities waiting to be explored.
4. Have students read the blog post again and finish A2 on page 46.
批 注
1) About 39 trillion. 2)Because we need them to survive and grow.
3) It helps digest food and affects the way we store fat and respond to chemicals that make
us feel hungry or full. 4)When the body is stressed, ill or old.
5)They could get rid of current health issues like obesity and malnutrition.
5. Have students summarize the main idea of the blog post in one sentence.
Microorganisms are an inseparable part of our body, which affect us physically,
cognitively and psychologically.
6. Have students read paragraph 1 and answer the following question.
How do you understand the sentence “Even though incredibly small, these microorganisms
influence our body and mind in big unexpected ways.” in lines 4–6?
I think it is a smart choice to use the words “small” and “big”. “Small” means that these
microorganisms are so tiny that they are invisible to the naked eye. And “big” means they
play a very important role in influencing us physically and mentally.
7. Have students read paragraph 2 and answer the following question.
Why are three quarters of the essential microorganisms considered to be our very first
birthday gift?
Because human beings are born with three quarters of the essential microorganisms, without
which it would be difficult for humans to survive and grow. So they are of great importance
to us and thus are considered to be our very first birthday gift given by our mother.
8. In expository writing, the author usually explains or describes a theory or an object from
general to specific. Have students discuss how the author organizes the blog post.
In the first paragraph, the author states the influence of microorganisms on human beings in
a general way by writing “these microorganisms influence our body and mind in big
unexpected ways”. This is a general statement of the main idea. In the following paragraphs,
the author makes specific points about the general statement. In the third paragraph, the
author talks about how microorganisms affect us physically and in the fourth paragraph, how
microorganisms influence us cognitively and psychologically is mentioned.
