Otters(水獭) are cute water animals. These days, keeping otters as pets is
getting popular in Japan and Indonesia. In fact, wild otters are facing problems—they have long been hunted(猎杀) for their coats; in some places, fishermen have been killing otters to stop them from eating fish; and now, the online pet trade has become another big problem for them.

Save Wetlands
An important meeting on wetlands kicked off on Saturday in Wuhan, China.
Wetlands are a natural water-holding system that can make polluted water clean and prevent floods(防洪). The water is home to many kinds of animals. Birds use wetlands seasonally during their migration(迁徙). Now more than half of the world's wetlands have disappeared since the beginning of the 20th century. If this goes on, more plant and animal species will surely die out.

One night in December 2011,a bear came into the city of Vancouver in Canada. It walked through the streets, past houses, shops and offices until it found some food in bins outside a restaurant and started eating. In the morning, someone saw the bear and called the police. They came with a vet from the city zoo, put the bear in a lorry and took it back to the mountains. Luckily, the bear was safe, but what happens in other countries when big animals come into cities?
In Cape Town, South Africa, baboons(狒狒) enter the city when they are hungry. They go into gardens and eat fruit from trees, or into houses and take food from cupboards(碗橱) and fridges.Baboons are strong animals and they can scare people. But the city can be dangerous for baboons too.
Sometimes, they are killed in traffic accidents. Human food is very bad for their teeth because it has a lot of sugar. Now, there are baboon monitors(监督员) working in Cape Town to return the animals to the countryside.
In Berlin, pigs sometimes come into the city to look for food. They eat flowers and plants from parks and gardens, and cause accidents in the streets. Some people like the pigs and they give them food and water to drink. Other people do not like the pigs and want the government and police to stop them.
In Moscow, there are 35,000 wild dogs. They live in parks, old houses, markets and train stations. Many people give them food and water. Some make small houses for the dogs in their gardens. This helps them in winter, when the temperature is-10℃ and there is a lot of snow and ice.
In some cities, you can see birds, insects, mice and squirrels every day. But sometimes, it is dangerous when big animals come from the countryside to find food. We need some good ideas to stop animals coming into the city without hurting them.

Elephants are the largest land animals. There are two kinds of elephants in Africa. The African bush elephant is bigger and more common. The African forest elephant is smaller and much rarer(稀罕的).
★ . Yet the African forest elephant is in greater danger. People have been taking over their homes in rainforests. They've cut down trees to make farms and houses. And they kill the elephants for their tusks too. Their population is falling and there are fewer than 150,000 left in the wild. Yet there is good news. People are trying to protect them.
Today, most African forest elephants' homes are in Gabon, an African country. People in Gabon are now working to help the elephants. How? There are a few ways.
The government plans to limit the number of trees people can cut down. This would protect the elephants' homes. Workers are also building fences around the country's national parks. That will prevent the elephants from going to nearby farms— where they might get killed by the farmers.
Leaders in Gabon are also supporting tourism. That means getting people to visit Gabon to see elephants. This can create new jobs and bring money into the country. More importantly, it can show that elephants are more valuable when they are alive.
It is necessary to save Africa's elephants. And it's not just because they' re beautiful. They also play a key role in keeping the forests healthy and helping our planet. So, protecting the elephants means protecting people too. In other words, helping the elephants also means helping us.

Andrew Holle man, a 12-year-old boy, loved playing in the small forest near his home. The forest was a home for the birds, other animals and many different plants. It was also a perfect place for him to study and get to know nature.
One day, he heard that the local government would cut down all the trees in the forest to build houses. He was very worried and he decided to do something. After he spent some time doing research about the area, Andrew wrote letters to the local government and TV reporters. Each day after school, he asked his neighbours for help by going door to door. In only one month, about 260 families supported him. In the end, his action worked and the local government gave up their plan.

书面表达(One possible version)
Dear Sir/ Madam,
Do you know the beautiful Siberian tigers?Did you see them in the zoo before? I think the Siberian tiger is one of the most popular animals that people like to see in the zoo. The reason is that they are strong and beautiful. But nowadays there are only 400 or so Siberian tigers in the world, and the number of them is decreasing. Why? Because many forests are cut down and Siberian tigers have no places to live in. In order to protect them, we should build more nature reserves. Besides, we must make laws to stop people from hunting them.
Let's try our best to save the strong and beautiful tigers.
