The albatross (信天翁) is one of the biggest flying birds. Albatrosses fly in the sky for months without getting to the ground. They can fly about 22,000 kilometres around the Earth in 46 days! They sometimes even sleep when they are flying.
A flamingo (火烈鸟) can sleep when it is standing on one leg. The standing leg always stays in the water. The other leg stays close to its body. It always puts its head on its back.
Horses often sleep when they are standing up. If a horse lies (躺下) down, it needs a long time to get up. A standing horse can run away fast when it sees dangerous things. And horses only need about three hours of sleep a day.
Giraffes often sleep for a short time. They sleep about 30 minutes a day, and 5 minutes at a time. They lie down when they sleep. They put their heads on their bodies or on the ground. What an interesting way of sleeping!

Minibeasts are small animals living in gardens, rivers and houses. Besides ants, there are many different kinds of minibeasts. Let’s go and have a look.
In the Garden
In people’s gardens, you might see bees in yellow and black. You can also see butterflies in different colors. But you can’t find baby butterflies. You can only see caterpillars (毛毛虫). They like eating plants. They don’t want to meet little birds because little birds always eat them. Some little birds eat snails and slugs (鼻涕虫), too. They are also minibeasts you can find in the gardens. Slugs eat all the plants in people’s gardens while snails sometimes do it.
In the River
Minibeasts live in and around water as well. One of them that lives near the water is the dragonfly. Dragonflies have four wings and long bodies. Some of their bodies can be blue and some are red. They fly very close to the water. They have very big eyes and can see things from a long way away.
