2) Know about the difference between the simple future tense and the future progressive tense;
3) Use the future progressive tense in context and complete the grammar exercises.
Teaching and learning important points:

Teaching and learning difficult points:
Learning to use the future progressive tense and using the future progressive tense.
Teaching and learning procedure:
Step 1 Review and leading in
Activity 1 Review and leading in
1. Review the form, function, meaning and the usage of the simple future tense.
1) shall/will do….; 2) be going to do….; 3) be doing …; 4) be about to do…
2. Lead in the teaching topic and introduce the learning objectives of this period.
Step 2 Discovering useful structures
Activity 2 Discovering and comparing
1. Look at the sentences below. One is in the simple future tense. The other is in the future progressive tense. What different impressions do they make?
1) In the future we will use advanced technology every day for automatic control of just about everything in our home.
2) In the future we will be using advanced technology every day for automatic control of just about everything in our home.
第一句使用了一般将来时,侧重表示对未来事件的主观意愿;第二句使用了将来进行时,表示事情的发展是一种必然趋势,具有客观性,表达了说话者的期待之情。
2. Find more sentences using the future progressive tense in the reading passage SMART HOMES TO MAKE LIFE EASIER. Rewrite them using the simple future tense. Try to feel the different impressions they make.
1) However, in the not-too-distant future, we will be living in smart homes that will lock the door…
2) In addition, your smart home will be monitoring your health for you every day.
3) It will also be checking your body weight.
4) Smart toilets will be keeping constant track of your health as well.
Difference: Simple future tense is used for predictions or firm promises. Future progressive tense is used to talk about a future habit or routine, or sth that you expect will happen, or used for an action that takes a long time.
Step 3 Learning about the structures
Activity 3 Learning about the structures—the future progressive tense
(Get the students to read the grammar explanations in RB or Appendix by themselves and complete the exercises in RB in advance.)
将来进行时(the future progressive tense)表示将来某一时刻或某一段时间里正在进行或持续的动作。
I. 构成及句式变化
1. 构成:will/shall be+现在分词;will be用于各种人称,shall be用于第一人称。
e.g. We will be using St. Peter’s Memorial Park next Monday. 我们下周一将使用圣彼得纪念公园。
I shall be taking the driving test this time next week. 下周这个时候我将正在参加驾照考试。
2. 句式变化
人称
陈述句(肯定、否定)
一般疑问式
第一人称
I/We will/shall (not) be doing…
Will/Shall I/we (not) be doing…?
第二、三人称
You/They/He/She/It will (not) be doing…
Will you/they/he/she/it (not) be doing…?
特殊疑问句:疑问代词/疑问副词+shall/will+主语+(not) be+现在分词+其他?
e.g. Will you be remaining in the city? 你将来会留在这个城市吗?
Who will be looking after Joe? 谁来照管乔?
II. 基本用法
1. 表示将来某一时刻或某段时间正在进行的或持续的动作。
e.g. Jane can’t attend the meeting at 3 o’clock this afternoon because she will be teaching a class at that time. 简今天下午3点不能参加会议,因为她那时将正在上课。
Don’t call him between 5 pm and 6 pm. He’ll be having a meeting then.
下午五点至六点之间不要给他打电话,那时他将正在开会。
2. 表示按计划或安排将要发生的动作。
e.g. We shall be meeting in Carrefour at 6 o’clock this afternoon. 我们定于今天下午六点在家乐福见面。
Tom will be seeing his friend off at the airport tomorrow. 汤姆明天将到机场为他的朋友送行。
3. 表示预测可能会发生的事或将来的某种可能性。
e.g. When I arrive home, my mother will probably be waiting for me for lunch.
当我到家时,我妈妈可能正在等我吃午饭。
If we keep working hard like this, we will be making a miracle.
如果我们继续这样努力工作的话,我们将会创造奇迹。
4. 将来进行时用于疑问句、条件状语从句或I hope/think等的宾语从句中,表示亲切或委婉的语气。
e.g. Will you be staying here long? 你会长时间待在这儿吗?
If you will be needing me for help, please let me know. 如果你需要我的帮助,请告诉我。
When will you be paying back the money? 这钱你什么时候还呢?
III. 与一般将来时的用法区别
1. 将来进行时表示将来某时或将来的某段时间正在进行的动作;而一般将来时表示将来某时将要发生的动作。
e.g. I’m glad to learn that your gallery will be holding a Chinese painting exhibition next week.
我很高兴得知贵画廊下周将正在举办中国画展。
After a three-year pilot period, the GPNP will be officially set up next year.
经过三年的试点期后,GPNP将于明年正式成立。
2. 将来进行时表示已有的安排;而一般将来时表示将来要做的事,事先没有考虑而只是在说话时做出的临时的决定或表示事物的倾向性、规律性和习惯等。
e.g. I will be leaving for Shanghai on business tomorrow. (已有的安排) 明天我要去上海出差。
It is a terribly heavy box. Don’t worry, I’ll help you to carry it. (临时决定)
这是一个很重的箱子。别担心,让我来帮你搬它。
Fish will die without water. (事物的规律性) 没有水鱼就会死。
3. 两者均可表示将来,但将来进行时表示的语气更委婉。
e.g. When will you finish your homework? 你什么时候完成作业?
When will you be finishing your homework? 你什么时候完成作业呢?
4. 有时将来进行时只是单纯地谈未来的情况;而一般将来时中的will则含有“愿意”的意思。
e.g. Mary won’t be paying this bill. (单纯谈未来的情况) 不会由玛丽来支付账单。
Mary won’t pay this bill. (表意愿) 玛丽不肯支付账单。
Step 4 Using the structures
Activity 4 Using the structures

Tips: Before we complete the sentences, we should list what he does at a certain time and make sure the activity has not finished at that time. For example, his classes begin at 8:00 o’clock and continue until 12:15. So he will be having a class at 8:10 a.m.

Answers: 1) will not be sleeping; 2) would reach; 3) wait; 4) will be working; 5) will support.

Jane: When will you be arriving in Beijing?
Sam: Around ten in the morning. Then I’ll be visiting the Summer Palace.

Jane: When will you be climbing the Great Wall?
Sam: Wednesday. Since it takes three hours to drive there and back, I won’t have other arrangement that day.

…
