If you are uncomfortable, being silent will only make it worse and make the other person uncomfortable as well. So when all else fails, you should follow through with a small talk until a common topic appears.
A good way to keep a conversation going is to ask the other person questions. 阅读下面短文,根据其内容填空或回答问题。(64至67每题答案不超过3个词,68需用完整句子回答。)
Many students have to live with roommates in school. Having roommates can be one of the best experiences, or easily one of the worst. If you want to get on well with your roommates, it all starts with you.
Follow the following advice to avoid(避免) the common mistakes that make good roommate relationships worse.
Talk things out. Communication is of great importance. If something happens, sit down with your roommates and have a face-to-face conversation. Complaining(抱怨) about your roommates behind their backs brings about nothing but awkward(令人尴尬的) situations and general unhappiness.
Don't expect to be best friends. Some roommates become your best friends, and some don't. Don't put pressure on yourself or your roommates to reach this level, especially when you first meet. Remember, you are trying to make new friends, not scare your roommates away. And if your roommates don't end up being your best friends, there is no need to worry about it.
Clean up after yourself. Or at least, keep your mess on your side. You don't need to keep the room clean and organized all the time. But being careful with where you put your own stuff will help you avoid arguing with your roommates.
Ask before you take. This applies(适用) to food, clothes, supplies and anything else that you don't own.Show your roommates that you have respect for their things. Even though you both agree to share everything, you should still ask.
