【2023新Ⅰ卷+II卷读后续写真题】
When I was in middle school, my social studies teacher asked me to enter a writing contest. I said no without thinking. I did not love writing. My family came from Brazil, so English was only my second language. Writing was so difficult and painful for me that my teacher had allowed me to present my paper on the sinking of the Titanic by acting out a play, where I played all the parts. No one laughed harder than he did.
So, why did he suddenly force me to do something at which I was sure to fail? His reply: “Because I love your stories. If you’re willing to apply yourself, I think you have a good shot at this.” Encouraged by his words, I agreed to give it a try.
I chose Paul Revere’s horse as my subject. Paul Revere was a silversmith (银匠) in Boston who rode a horse at night on April 18, 1775 to Lexington to warn people that British soldiers were coming. My story would come straight from the horse’s mouth. Not a brilliant idea, but funny; and unlikely to be anyone else’s choice.
What did the horse think, as he sped through the night? Did he get tired? Have doubts? Did he want to quit? I sympathized immediately. I got tired. I had doubts. I wanted to quit. But, like Revere’s horse, I kept going. I worked hard. I checked my spelling. I asked my older sister to correct my grammar. I checked out a half dozen books on Paul Revere from the library. I even read a few of them.
When I handed in the essay to my teacher, he read it, laughed out loud, and said, “Great. Now, write it again.” I wrote it again, and again and again. When I finally finished it, the thought of winning had given way to the enjoyment of writing. If I didn’t win, I wouldn’t care.

If you had asked teenage me about exercise, I would have rolled my eyes while holding my untouched gym membership card. Sweating for fun? Unthinkable.
However, everything changed three years ago when life’s pressure became unbearable. Eager for relief, I recalled reading about exercise releasing endorphins, a chemical within your body that reduces pain and can make you feel happier. This time, I knew I needed more than willpower — I needed an accountability partner who could hold me accountable for my exercise routine.
The moment I walked into Adria’s circuit training studio, her warm smile disarmed me. “Accountability partner” proved not enough to describe this force of nature. Though we quickly became friends, her determination shone through every time I tried canceling sessions. “What’s your workout plan this week?” her texts would arrive whenever I skipped two days. Gradually, my baggy sweatshirts tightened around newly toned arms, and genuine laughter started replacing my gloomy sighs.
One rainy Thursday, Adria leaned against the gym mirrors. “I have run solo operations for three years. I need a day off,” she sighed. My comforting nod froze when she suddenly locked eyes with me. “You should get certified — maybe start with the American Council on Exercise (ACE) test. You’re the only one I’d trust with these keys.”
Nervous laughter escaped me. “Me? A trainer?” The idea seemed as ridiculous as teaching rocket science. It was so good that she trusted me but there was no way! I hadn’t studied for anything in years, not to mention that a large portion of my “day job” was reading as a full-time editor. Could I really read about fitness in the evenings?
For days following our conversation, every time the thought popped into my head, I heard the words “No way!” Yet her words planted persistent seeds in my mind. I decided to do some research to understand what it would take to be a Group Fitness Instructor. I learned it would take three to six months of reading text, analyzing charts, watching videos and listening to the provided podcasts. Though hesitant, I finally signed up for the ACE course.

There lived a ten-year-old boy named Tim in a small town. Though born in a family that struggled to make ends meet, Tim was a bright and lively boy, having a strong passion for music. He held a dream that he could perform music for many people at his own concert in the future.
One day, word reached Tim about a local music competition, the prize of which was a full scholarship to a highly regarded music academy. This was an opportunity that seemed like a golden ticket to his dream, so he made the decision to participate. After hurrying to sign up for the competition, he made a plan to practice, day in and day out, using an old guitar that had been passed down from his grandfather.
When the day of the competition finally arrived, Tim felt a mixture of nervousness and excitement. He stepped onto the stage and poured all his heart, soul, and love into the music. He felt rather satisfied with his performance.
During the following days, he waited for the result anxiously. However, he didn’t win. He completely broke down, feeling all his painstaking efforts were for nothing. A deep sense of discouragement settled over him. His parents knew that his skills are not good enough but didn’t know how to comfort him. Tim was always sitting, playing his old guitar in the park, with nobody to talk with.
A few weeks later, a man named Mr. Thompson moved into the neighborhood. Little did anyone know that Mr. Thompson was a guitar master who once shared the spotlight on stages with well-known bands but now sought the peace of a quiet life. I work for a TV broadband phone company on the technology team. We work with anything from installations (安装) to troubleshooting and upgrading services. Basically, if you have a problem with any of those, I help you solve it. Of course, being shouted at by customers is nothing odd. But I can tackle all that with a smile as long as I think of my first client.
It was 8:00 a.m. and the first call of the day was a lady who sounded angry. At first, it wasn’t clear what the problem was. After I reassured her that I wanted to help, adding that I’d look at the notes on her account and that she could fill me in on what had been missed out, she calmed down a bit.
A year ago, the lady paid over £100 to get a new TV box installed, but the service was postponed. According to the notes and what the lady told me, she called several times to inquire about her order, but she only heard various excuses, such as “We are short of engineers.”, “Someone forgot to keep track of the order.” or “We will arrange that soon.”
Why this lady had been left hanging like that was unknown to me, but I promised her I’d get to the bottom of it. She already had TV services with us, but the upgraded box installation was the problem, and she was also a carer for a family member, so she had enough stress. I told her, “I will call you and text you updates.”
The next day, I consulted experienced staff about the installation procedure, which included resubmitting the order, confirming the date and arranging engineers. I also asked my manager how to get the lady’s money back because I couldn’t resubmit an installation order without taking a payment. My manager offered to get the higher-ups’ confirmation.

On the first day of school, our professor introduced Frank, a teenager with a slight limp(跛行)but a bright smile. He sat next to me, and I told him about my passion for robotics. Frank said he’d always been interested in technology but never had the chance to explore it deeply. He had a minor physical disability but was determined to pursue his education and prove what he could achieve.
Over the next few days, Frank and I became friends, talking during breaks and sharing our dreams. Frank spoke about overcoming his challenges, while I shared my love for robotics. We found our interests complemented (补充) each other, and we often discussed how technology could help people.
One day, Frank mentioned a secret technological project that could bring convenience to the disabled but needed access to specialized lab equipment. I suggested he talk to our professor, known for supporting innovative ideas. Frank took my advice and was surprised when the professor offered him access to the advanced lab and a mentor.
With the professor’s support, Frank’s project began to take shape. His enthusiasm inspired other students to pursue their own projects. I was drawn to Frank’s project, seeing how it could fit with my robotics skills. However, I hesitated to start my own project. I had always been passionate about robotics, but I was afraid of failure and the challenges that came with it. I worried that my ideas wouldn’t be good enough or that I wouldn’t be able to handle the pressure. Despite my passion, I held back, unsure if I was ready to take that leap.
But Frank’s determination and the professor’s encouragement changed my perspective. “You can do it. We can work together to complete this project,” he said. Then I saw how Frank faced his challenges head-on, never letting his disability hold him back. His courage pushed me to overcome my fears.

Ever since I was a kid, my mum Cynthia knew that I had a talent for music. When I was one year old, my mum bought me a toy with a xylophone (木琴), drums, all kinds of instruments. The moment I saw the toy, I fell in love with it. It was at this time that Cynthia learned her son must be into music.
However, my music career almost didn’t happen. When I was in secondary school, I started playing rugby (橄榄球). There were three things I was really interested in: languages, sports and music. But I decided that I wanted to focus on sports for the time being. My rugby career took me all over the world on tours in South Africa, Europe and elsewhere.
When I was around 16 years old, I got an injury. It was quite severe, keeping me out of the field for several months. And my doctor informed me that I could no longer continue playing professional rugby. During this period of recovery, I had a lot of time to reflect on my life and my passions. I realized that injuries had kept me from being a professional player. Although I loved rugby, music had always been a part of me. Music was something I had never truly let go of, even when I was fully buried in my rugby career. After much thought, I decided to pick up the guitar again and start writing songs.
My mum was thrilled when I told her I wanted to return to music. She had always believed in my musical talent. After moving away from rugby, with her support, I began taking music lessons and discovered that I possessed a wealth of creativity and emotion to channel into my music. I loved singing and continued my music lessons for years, even as I was preparing to go to university.

By the time Charlie Brown was in the sixth grade, he was the smallest and the youngest boy in his class. Being a good student didn’t last forever. Later, school was all but impossible for Charlie. He failed every subject in the eighth grade. By the time Charlie was in junior high, he began to have trouble. He flunked physics in high school, getting a grade of zero. By the tenth grade, Schulz said that he had “failed everything in sight. ”
Charlie also failed in Latin, algebra, and English. He didn’t do much better in sports. Although he did manage to make the school’s golf team, he promptly lost the only important match of the season. There was a consolation match but he lost that too.
Throughout his youth, Charlie was awkward, socially. He was not actually disliked by the other students and no one cared that much. He was astonished if a classmate ever said hello to him outside of school hours.
There is no way to tell how he might have done at dating. Charlie never asked a girl out in high school. He was too afraid of being turned down.
Charlie was a loser. He, his classmates... everyone knew it. So he went with it. Charlie had made up his mind early in life that if things were meant to work out they would. Otherwise, he would content himself with what appeared to be his inevitable mediocrity.
However, one thing was important to Charlie. That is drawing. He was proud of his artwork. In kindergarten, after seeing one of his drawings, the teacher said, “Someday, Charlie, you’re going to be an artist.” Of course, no one else appreciated it. In his senior year of high school, he handed in some cartoons to the editors of the yearbook. The cartoons were turned down. Despite this, Charlie was so convinced of his ability that he decided to become a professional artist.

7. 2025 届山东省临沂市高三下学期一模英语试题
I couldn’t believe the offer I was reading. “Yes, I’d love to do your TV show,” I typed. Months before this e-mail conversation, I wouldn’t have had the confidence to have asked for the opportunity.
My complicated journey began as I undertook a nearly impossible mission to recreate my father-in-law’s military history. All his records were gone and the Army records center in St. Louis, Missouri, had suffered a fire, destroying Dad’s records. I wanted to fill in the blanks for him, but Dad was no longer with us. After he died, in his bedroom my husband George found a small, worn box. “What is that?” I asked him. “A pocket watch that Dad carried through his time in the Army during World War II,” he answered. “Wow! It is special,” I responded. “More than you know. Dad gave it to me before I left for basic training in 1961. I carried it during my tour of duty.” Tears shone in his eyes. Later, our son-in-law was sent to the front line. He was the third in line to receive the pocket watch.
Meanwhile, after a full year of research, with the help of survivors who served with Dad, Iwas able to gather all his missing Army records. I thought my mission was completed. When our son-in-law returned home, having survived a fierce battle, he returned the pocket watch to us in an emotional account of how it had saved his life. The recreation of Dad’s military history now had another amazing story within it. Over fifty years, three generations of service members had carried the same pocket watch.
I held the newly returned military pocket watch in my hands and said, “If only you could talk.” Then, I had an idea. Maybe I could be the voice of it and make it an narrator of the story. Eight years later, Guiding Pocket Watch was published, a historical novel evolving from digging into Dad’s military history. Writing a book is hard work, but it’s only the first step for me. Marketing and publicity are equally difficult. My family and friends encouraged me to promote Guiding Pocket Watch through the media, such as newspapers, magazines, TV shows, etc.

At the park where my children play stands a big old tree. She has watched over me and my children for two decades as we play and dream under the tree.
For fourteen years, I had been a stay-at-home, baby-wearing, homeschooling mom. I didn’t just start to make our meals from zero; I made our homeschool curriculum (课程), too.
One morning while walking and talking, I said, “I just can’t have one more conversation about cloth diapers (尿布) and homeschool curriculum.” Although our youngest was still wearing diapers, our oldest was soon to graduate from high school. My husband pointed out that I’ had a long road ahead of me. If my life were like our walk, I had only begun the first mile. “Why don’t you go to college and finish your degree? ” he suggested.
For that comment, -my husband received a five-mile-long earful of reasons why I could not go back to school. Besides being too busy with housework, I was not comfortable with the idea of going to college as a middle-aged adult. As we walked along, I imagined myself sitting in a classroom next to students the same age as my oldest daughter. What kind of conversations could we have? What, would they think of me — a stay-at-home mom?
One day, with a child on my lap, I read Shel Silverstein’s The Giving Tree. For my children, it was a story about a boy who makes friends with a tree. For me, it was a description of my life with a less-than-promising future. After the tree has given her apples, branches and trunk to the boy, all she has left to give is a seat on her stump (树桩) to an old man. When my story ended, I realized I did not want to be the Giving Tree; I wanted to be the big old tree in the park. I wanted to stand tall and strong, to stretch out my branches. I love literature, so I decided to take up literature.

Emily stared through the window and watched a white cloud pass over the woods across from the school. A bird floated through the air, wings stretched. It must be wonderful to be a bird, she thought. Total freedom. No math class to sit in. Soon, she would be out of school for the summer and her days would be spent on horseback. She thought of her horse, Star. She’d have to brush him before riding him this afternoon. Somewhere, someone was saying her name, but it seemed so far away.
“Emily. Emily!” Emily jumped. She turned back toward the class to find everyone laughing. “Emily, you’re such a smart girl but you just don’t apply yourself. You’re always daydreaming.” Mrs. Smith turned to others, “Class, now clear your desks. Our guest is here. Welcome Doctor Landon. He is a painter and he came here today as part of our continued Career Explorations program.”
“I love horses,” Doctor Landon said. Horse. Was Doctor Landon talking about horses? She paid attention as he spoke. “School education matters a lot. The knowledge I got from math and science classes enables me to paint horses as they are in their natural setting. I visit different stables (养马场). It’s a lot of work, but I love it.”

Peter, 60, loved his job as a school bus driver. He had been one almost all his life, loving the company of the little children who rode his bus daily. It made him feel younger and more energetic. His record was clean, without one accident during his tenure (任期), which made him a trustworthy driver.
However, Mr. Clark, Peter’s boss, was concerned that he was too old to be a school bus driver and that it was time for him to retire. “You don’t have a choice here, Peter,” he said seriously. “We don’t want to invite any risk to the children who take your bus every day. We need a replacement at this stage.”
“But I have a perfect record,” argued Peter. “You know, for an elderly man like me, my job is the only thing that keeps me alive. I enjoy staying with children. I want to keep my joy.”
“Think about those kids, Peter,” Mr. Clark said. “I didn’t want to bring this up, but didn’t you mention before that you’ve been having some health problems lately? Would you take responsibility if something bad happened to those kids?”
“There is no problem with my body now. I’m still capable of handling driving” Peter became a bit anxious and tried to explain further. But Mr. Clark’s attitude was firm. He shook his head, emphasizing that he couldn’t afford to take any risks, as the children’s safety was the top priority. Looking at Mr. Clark’s tough attitude, Peter thought it over and very unwillingly gave in to Mr. Clark’s request. Peter decided to retire a week later.
His retirement day approached pretty soon. On his last day of diving the school bus, Peter was filled with a heavy heart. As he made his usual rounds, picking up the children, he noticed that he was a bit more tired than usual. But he shrugged it off, thinking it was just the sadness of leaving his beloved job.

A few weeks later when I almost forgot the contest, the news came. It was another ordinary social studies class. My teacher entered the classroom with a big smile on his face. He looked straight at me, "Listen, guy, good news for you. You won first place in the writing contest. Make preparations for the award presentation to be held next Monday.” I was frozen, unable to believe what he said, No sooner had he finished than the whole class broke into thunderous applause. During the award presentation, I couldn't find my teacher when I was on stage, which made me upset.
I went to the teacher's office after the award presentation. “Congratulations, boy!” He congratulated me the moment he noticed me. I burst into tears, “Thank you, sir. Without you, I couldn't have won the prize.” He stepped forward, patted me on the shoulder, and said softly , “Believe in yourself. You will definitely become a good writer one day.”Now twenty years passed. Every time someone asked about my key to becoming a writer, I would owe my writing achievements to my social studies teacher. It was his encouragement that pushed me to the road to a successful writer.

The test day came, and it was no joke.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________【答案】
There were many times when I wanted to give up. The study materials were dense and difficult to understand, and my evenings were filled with the stress of trying to balance my full-time editing job and the fitness course. On top of that, I had never been a fan of studying. Whenever I felt overwhelmed, Adria would send me encouraging messages. “You’re doing great,” she’d say. “I believe in you.” Her unwavering support kept me going. I started making a study schedule, setting aside a specific time each day for learning. Slowly but surely, I began to understand the concepts and gain confidence.
The test day came, and it was no joke. My heart pounded as I sat at the desk, looking at the test paper. But as I started answering the questions, I realized that all the hard work had paid off. I recognized many of the concepts and was able to recall the information I had studied. When I finally submitted my test, a sense of relief washed over me. A few weeks later, I received the news that I had passed. Adria was overjoyed. She handed me the keys to the studio with pride, and I knew that this was just the beginning of a new chapter in my life.

One day, he happened to spot Tim sitting alone, playing the guitar with a disappointed expression. He approached Tim and started a conversation. Tim opened up to him about his experience in the competition.

【答案】 Mr. Thompson listened attentively and then took over the guitar. He played the song that Tim performed in the competition. Such wonderful music left Tim shocked. Before Tim could say a word, Mr. Thompson proposed to give him free music lessons. Tim agreed happily. Over the following months, with Mr. Thompson’s encouragement and guidance, Tim made rapid progress. With skills and confidence improving, Tim recorded his music and shared it online. People were drawn to his music, and he won lots of applause. A music producer was deeply impressed by Tim’s talent and decided to cooperate with him. So Tim left his hometown, walking closer to his dream.
Two years later, Tim returned to his hometown for his own concert. He went to Mr. Thompson’s house and knocked at his door excitedly, hoping to invite him to the concert. However, Tim got no response. He then was told that Mr. Thompson had moved for a long time. At the live concert, Tim performed a song specially for Mr. Thompson. When the last note was played, he stood up straight and took a bow, showing his sincere gratitude to his teacher. Nobody noticed an old man, in the last row, clapping hands for the excellent player. And that’s Mr. Thompson, smiling with tears of joy shining in his eyes.

【答案】
With preparatory work done, I got the installation procedure started. After the higher-ups confirmed that we could give the lady’s money back, I resubmitted the order and agreed on the installation date with the lady after she got her money back and paid me. I triple-checked that the order had all the flags it needed and updated the lady each day before the installation to let her know it was going ahead smoothly. To ensure the lady wouldn’t be disappointed again, I arranged our most responsible and professional engineers.
The day after the installation, I called the lady to ask if everything had been OK. She said the TV box was installed perfectly by the nice engineers, mentioning she learned about my dedication from them. Knowing the lady was finally satisfied, I felt a sense of relief and delight. That night, I even received an email filled with heartfelt gratitude from the lady. Reading the email, I thought to myself, “If I have a bad day at work in the future, I should always think of this lady and how much what I did meant to her.”

Frank’s heartfelt speech encouraged me to start my own project. I found myself reflecting on his words and my own passion for robotics. I had always been afraid to start my own project, but Frank’s resolution and the professor’s support gave me the courage to take that step. Under the professor’s guidance, I fully applied my robotics skills to my project, creating something unique.
One day, a record producer approached my music teacher to inquire whether she knew of anyone interested in joining a band, so my teacher asked me whether to audition (试唱).

With a slight hesitation, I asked my mum for help with this audition. She hugged me tightly and said, “Darling, this is the chance you’ve been waiting for. Remember how much you love music and how far you’ve come. You have a unique voice and style, and I’m sure they’ll be blown away.” Her words were like a warm breeze, calming my jitters. She helped me choose the perfect songs, practiced vocal techniques with me, and even gave me tips on stage presence. With her unwavering support, I felt a new surge of confidence and began to look forward to the audition with anticipation.
As audition day came, I was a mixture of nerves and excitement. Stepping into the audition room, I took a deep breath and started singing. My voice filled the room, steady and confident. When I finished, the producers nodded approvingly. I had made it! Overjoyed, I rushed home to share the news with my mum, grateful for her love and support that made my musical dream come true.

【答案】
After completing high school, he wrote a letter to Walt Disney Studios. He was told to send some samples of his artwork, and the subject for a cartoon was suggested. Charlie drew the proposed cartoon. He spent a great deal of time on it and on all the other drawings he submitted. Finally, the reply came from Disney Studios. He had been rejected once again. Another loss for the loser! His heart sunk and was seized by a burst of depression. But he didn’t lose heart. Instead, he settled down and began to study more.
So Charlie decided to write his own autobiography in cartoons. He described his childhood self as a little boy loser. His persistence and efforts paid off at last. The cartoon character would soon become famous worldwide. The boy who had such lack of success in school and whose work was rejected again and again, succeeded eventually. Years later, Charlie became a world famous cartoonist and his popular comic works enjoyed great popularity throughout the world. For Charlie, it was his persistence and sticking to the dream that led to his success.

7. 2025 届山东省临沂市高三下学期一模英语试题

【答案】I told them I dare not approach the media for fear of being rejected. My family and friends listened patiently. My husband George held my hands and said, “You have done such a remarkable job with this book. It’s a story that deserves to be told. Don’t let the fear of rejection stop you.” Our daughter also chimed in, “Mom, you’ve overcome so many difficulties in writing this book. This is just another challenge, and I know you can face it bravely.” Their words touched my heart deeply, but I still hesitated, imagining all the possible negative responses.
Finally, I took their advice. I gathered my courage and started reaching out to different media platforms. To my great surprise, many showed interest in my book. The TV show that I e-mailed responded quickly and warmly. When the day of the TV show arrived, I was nervous but excited. On the stage, I held the pocket watch in my hand and began to tell the moving story of three generations. The audience was deeply touched, and I realized that I had made the right decision and that my book could bring inspiration and warmth to more people.

【答案】 I told my husband about my idea. He was very supportive and encouraged me to take the first step. With his help, I started to prepare for the college entrance exam. It wasn’t easy, as I had to study while taking care of the family. But I was determined. I joined a study group and got up early every day to study.
Going back to school as a stay-at-home mom was not always comfortable. I felt a bit out of place at first. The young students seemed to have so much energy and were so different from me. However, I gradually found my rhythm. I actively participated in classes and made friends with some of my classmates. We shared different life experiences, and I learned a lot from them. Through hard work, I’m now on my way to achieving my dream of becoming a person like the big old tree, standing tall with knowledge and confidence.

When she heard the words, Emily’s mouth fell open. He spent his days with horses. Lots of horses! What a life that must be, she thought.

At that moment, sitting in math class, Emily could see her future. She realized that if she wanted to be a vet and tend her horses, she needed to focus on her study. Math and science were no longer just boring subjects; they were the keys to her dream job. She sat up straight, her eyes fixed on Doctor Landon, absorbing every word he said. Dr. Landon was saying. “You have to be patient, observe carefully, and even do math — like calculating doses for medicine.” For the first time, she was fully present in class, determined to learn as much as she could.
On arriving home, she changed her plans for the afternoon. Instead of daydreaming in class, she went straight to her room and took out her math and science books. She began to apply herself to study, single-minded about her future career, which surprised everyone around. An ambitious girl was fighting her way to her big dream, who was inspired by the important lesson by Doctor Landon.

10. 2025 届四川省南充市高三适应性考试二模

The children in the bus started to scream in feat In that split second, visions of the children’s bright smiles during every ride flashed before his eyes. “I mustn’t let anything happen to them. I mustn’t....,” Peter endured the severe pain, murmuring to himself . Fortunately, with his last bit of strength and his years of driving experience, he managed to pull the bus over safely to the side of the road.
The next day, Peter saw the boss and children come to his home with flowers. The children handed him flowers and a drawing titled “Our Hero, Mr. Peter.” Tears welled up in Peter’s eyes Mr. Clark softened his tone and said, “Thank you for your quick thinking and dedication during such a critical moment. You’ve fulfilled your promise to keep the children safe.” Then he offered Peter an honorary position as a safety advisor. Peter felt a deep sense of fulfillment, knowing he could still play a meaningful role in ensuring the children’s safety and staying connected to the job he cherished.
