Hi! My name is Adam and I'm a freshman at senior high school.Going from junior high school to senior high school is a really big challenge. The first week was a little confusing.

I know I'll have to study harder as a senior high school student and get used to being responsible for a lot more.I'm a bit worried about keeping up with the other students in my advanced course, and it'll be quite difficult to get used to all the homework.Still, I'm happy to be here.Studying hard isn't always fun, but I'll be well prepared for university or whatever else comes in the future.

(2026·南京高一期中)After entering high school, you may find there are many clubs at your school. You may think you're too busy to join one.But as a former high school student, I can tell you joining a school club can greatly profit you.
Your old friends may have left you after entering high school. And it means you need to meet new people.Joining a club allows you to talk with others and find those who have similar interests as you.Based on my experience,I have met some of my best friends from club activities, which opened up many new doors for me.
Another really nice thing about joining a club is that it looks really good on college applications(申请书).Trying new things is something that looks really good on any application.Outgoing is considered a very good quality which shows that you are determined and ready to put yourself out there and best of all try new things. What's more,it can help you develop skills that can serve you during future college interviews.
Besides, joining a club can make students use their free time wisely. Most teens go to schools, then go back home and spend the rest of the day in front of a screen.Teens are also very likely to fall into the wrong crowd, which could lead to some bad results.Clubs are good places to spend time with good people to fall back on.
The most important reason why you should join a club is the longterm benefits (益处) it brings. The classroom isn't the only learning environment in a school. The skills you learn in clubs are necessary ones that can be used in everyday life, which I think is the final goal of joining a club.Things such as meeting and speaking to new people, making the most of time, and being organised are those you will meet every single day of your life, but you can learn all of them in clubs.
So if you haven't joined a school club yet, you know what you should do now.

(2026·长沙雅礼中学高一月考)Students who plan to use AI (人工智能) tools to write their college admission essays should think twice: Essays written by AI sound very similar to each other and lack personal voice, even when details (细节) like race or gender are included.
Researchers from the Cornell University compared 30,000 college application essays written by humans to ones written by eight AI tools. They discovered that AI essays were easy to tell from actual human writing because they used similar sentence patterns and repeated the same kinds of ideas.
“The admission essay is a chance for applicants to offer insights into who they are, beyond all the structured information on the application form,” said Rene Kizilcec, senior author of the new study. “AI tools can help students improve their writing and are likely a good idea for weak writers. But asking for a full article will result in something that just does not sound like any real applicant.”
The researchers explained that AI models cannot easily copy a person's natural writing style. This makes them undependable for important writing tasks like college applications. When AI tools were asked to write from the view of a specific person, such as “an Asian woman from California”, the results sounded even less human. The essays often listed personal details in a flat and predictable way. Surprisingly, the team found that another AI program could easily tell the difference between human and AIwritten essays. This means universities and colleges could likely find out essays written mainly by AI tools.
First author Jinsook Lee advises high school students to use their own ideas to brainstorm and write some simple essays, and, if allowed, use AI only to polish (润色) their essays. Applying to college can be stressful, but Lee remembers her own articlewriting positively. “It was a great chance to look back on my life and my background,” she said. “I think it was the first experience for me to be really thoughtful.”
