Time Last Saturday
Place At the school playground
Characters The author, Li Chong, The runners, The audience
Theme The final of the 4× 100-metre relay
The author's feelings Excited and thrilled
①We all stood up and started cheering and shouting.
②I could see the runners straining to run as fast as they could, while trying not to drop their batons at the change.
句②中的straining to ...及trying not to ...
It was Li Chong, the fastest student in our school, who first crossed the finish line.
①It was like being hit by a huge wave of excitement.
②I was also caught up in the excitement and cheered so hard that I thought my lungs would burst!(夸张)
It was so wonderful to be part of this sporting moment and enjoy its speed and passion.

If you had to choose one word to describe Kevin, it might have been “slow”. He didn't learn his ABCs as fast as other kids. He never came in first in the running races. However, Kevin's smile was brighter than the sun in June; his heart bigger than the sky. Kevin's enthusiasm for life spread quickly to others. So when he discovered that the teacher, Randy, was putting together a boys' basketball team, his mother could only answer, “Yes, you may join.”
Basketball became the center of Kevin's life. At practice, he worked so hard that you'd have thought he was preparing for the NBA.He liked to stand in a certain spot near the free-throw (罚球) line and shoot baskets. Patiently, he stood there throwing ball after ball, until finally it would get into the basket. “Look at me, Coach!” he'd shout to Randy, jumping up and down, his face just glowing with the excitement of it all. His teammates were also moved by Kevin's perseverance, and they insisted on practicing with him.
Kevin and his whole team truly loved basketball. But just loving the game doesn't help them win. More balls fell out of the basket than into it, and the boys lost every game that season by very large scores, except one: the night it snowed and the other team couldn't make it to the game. At the end of the season, the boys had their last competition. As the last-place team, they drew the unfortunate spot of playing against the first-place team — the tall, undefeated first-place team.
The game went pretty much as expected, and near the middle of the fourth quarter Kevin's team stood nearly 30 points behind. At that point, one of Kevin's teammates called time-out(暂停). As he came to the side, Randy couldn't imagine why the time-out had been called. “Coach,” said the boy. “I know that Kevin has never made a basket. But this is our last game and I think we should let Kevin make a basket to achieve his dream.” With the game completely out of reach, the idea seemed reasonable, so plans were made.
Every time Kevin's team had the ball, Kevin was to stand in his special spot near the free-throw line and they would give him the ball. Kevin skipped extra high as he went onto the court. His first shot bounced around but missed. The player from the other team swiped (击打) the ball and took it down to the other end scoring two more points. At that moment, a clear tension and unease appeared on his face. But quickly he adjusted his mindset and got back into the game. As soon as Kevin's team had the ball again, they passed it to Kevin who still stood in his place. But he missed again.
注意:1.写作词数应为80左右;
Kevin missed every chance with this pattern continuing a few more times, and the spectators finally figured out what was happening. _____
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Kevin missed every chance with this pattern continuing a few more times, and the spectators finally figured out what was happening. Little by little, people started to stand up and clap their hands. The whole gym thundered with the clapping and shouting, “Kevin! Kevin!” The whole world stopped, waiting for and wanting Kevin. Finally, after a number of tries, the ball took one miraculous bounce and went in. Kevin raised his arms high into the air and shouted, “I made it! I made it!” The last few seconds ticked away and the first-place team remained undefeated. But on that evening, everyone in Kevin's team left the game truly feeling like a winner.
As children grow up, they will likely be drawn to participate in sports. But not all children will be interested in or successful in every sports experience. Some children tend to join in team sports while others will prefer individual sports. 1 So how can parents help their child pick the most suitable sport? Here's How:
2
A child's interest in a given sport is the best determiner of whether he or she will enjoy it as a participant. So expose the child to a wide variety of sports experiences. Talk with them about what they like and dislike about each sport.
3
As you check out the various sports, see if you can tell which of them seems most interesting to the child. Listen to your child for signs about their preferences. Maybe they will talk about the players, the skills, or they will tell others about the experience. If you watch and listen, you can pick up what interests them most.
Find out: team or individual?
Some children will prefer to participate in a team sport like football, baseball or basketball in which they play a role in a team. 4 Sports like these include swimming, tennis or golf. Or they may simply enjoy individual sports like cycling and gymnastics. As you observe your child, try to find out what their preferences are. 5
A.Watch out for signs of enthusiasm.
B.Expose the child to a variety of sports.
C.Match the sport to your child's body type.
D.Some body types are better suited to some sports than others.
E.Others will prefer being on a team where their own skills matter most.
F.Make sure that the child has a physical exam before participating in sports actively.
G.These observations will help you focus on the sport that will work best for your child.
1.选D 根据下文中的“So how can parents help their child pick the most suitable sport?”和D项中的“are better suited to some sports”相呼应可知,应选D项“有些体型比其他体型更适合某些运动”。
2.选B 根据本部分中“So expose the child to a wide variety of sports experiences.”
3.选A 根据本部分中“which of them seems most interesting to the child ... for signs about their preferences”以及“If you watch and listen, you can pick up what interests them most.”
4.选E 根据下文“Sports like these include swimming, tennis or golf.”
5.选G 根据上文中的“As you observe your child, try to find out what their preferences are.”
