Dear Tom,
I’m glad to receive your letter inquiring about Stephen Curry and his remarkable sportsmanship. I’d love to share something about him with you.
Curry, son of famous basketball player Dell Curry, developed his basketball skills on a rough muddy court in his childhood. The bumpy road and weak equipment forced him to adjust his playing style and practise shooting accurately day in and day out. However, he stuck to his dream with great perseverance and he exceeded all people’s expectations, winning his first NBA championship in 2015 and receiving the MVP award two years in a row.
What makes Curry a role model lies in his noble sportsmanship. For one thing, he holds firm self-belief, never giving in to others’ doubts. For another, he devotes continuous efforts to polishing his skills, believing daily hard work can pay off.
For me, Curry’s story proves that external voices can never define our future. Only by sticking to our goals and making consistent efforts can we eventually fulfill our dreams.
Yours sincerely,
Li Jin

He’s a comedian, he’s an actor, he’s British and the whole world knows him as the silent, black-haired character Mr. Bean. That’s right, Rowan Atkinson.
Atkinson was born in Newcastle, England and was educated at Newcastle University and Oxford. While at Oxford, he met the writer Richard Curtis, who was studying there too, and they became friends. Curtis was the opposite of Atkinson. He had great love for words while Atkinson enjoyed nonverbal comedy. Together they began writing comedy reviews for the Oxford Playhouse. Shortly afterwards, Atkinson began appearing in smaller theaters in Edinburgh. After a show at the Hampstead Theater in 1978, he was offered a part in the BBC series Not the Nine o’clock News. This series got off to a slow start, but soon became a huge success, with Atkinson winning a BAFTA award for his work. However, being a very sensible man, Atkinson saw the whole acting job as a hobby, along with his growing interest in car racing.
Atkinson made his big-screen debut (初次亮相) in 1983’s unofficial James Bond film Never Say Never Again. That same year Atkinson appeared in the BBC series called Black Adder. The main hero named Edmund, tries unsuccessfully to become King of England after accidentally killing his uncle Richard III during a fight. This was followed by three hugely successful sequels (续集) each set in a different era of England’s history. The Black Adder series was voted the Best Comedy Show of the Year in 1990. He then went on to create Mr. Bean. A walking disaster, Bean was purely physical comedy, the opposite of Edmund. This character was a huge success and became another national treasure. In 1997 Bean came to the big screen. A few years later, Scooby Doo became a box office hit in the US in 2002. This was followed by Johnny English in 2003, a funny work of James Bond films.
In his spare time Atkinson collects classic cars and takes part in races. He also writes for the British magazine CAR. He is a very shy man, and has managed to keep his private life private.

“Look for the gap” “ Move into space” Sound familiar? From the sidelines to the field, no matter the team sport, looking for relevant information in the playing environment can be as important as any other skill if you want to score. Think Allen Iverson, Scott Pendlebury, or Natalie Medhurst, coolly judging all the options before making important decisions. How do these excellent athletes become so great? As well as their physical strengths, their brainpower is an obvious advantage.
Regardless of whether an athlete is playing backyard cricket or Olympic basketball, their playing environment holds important information that must be found, explained and then acted on. Research conducted at Western Sydney University finds skilled players are better at looking for and seeing the options and what’s happening around them in the playing environment. They tend to look both at an opponent (对手) and at where they can move next. Less skilled players, however, might watch only one detail but not what is happening around them.
Skilled players are also often faster to make decisions compared to less skilled players; their experiences create more stored memories that help speed up their decision-making. Essentially, skilled players know what information is the most relevant to focus on and they act on it quickly.
Adding to this picture is new research that explores the negative impact of mental fatigue (疲劳) on physical performance. This work shows that our ability to exercise can be affected negatively after activities requiring long periods of thinking and mental effort, particularly when these activities are boring. It first considers the impact of using the brain so much that it makes you physically tired. This may be particularly relevant for coaches of young players shifting from the school day to training, especially if the day’s lessons have been complex. Coaches should therefore map out appropriate strategies by considering the amount of information they provide for athletes and the complexity of the tasks and instructions.
Overall, cognitive (认知的) skills, like physical qualities, are key to high performance and even play a role in identifying future potential. Cognition could be a reliable marker of ability over time and could provide some basis for prediction of talent.
61.Why are some great athletes mentioned in the text?
A.To compare different sports. B.To highlight physical training.
C.To stress mental skills in sports. D.To honor their achievements in sports.
62.According to paragraph 2, what advantage do skilled athletes tend to have?
A.Faster moving speed. B.Wider focus of attention.
C.More efficient teamwork. D.Stronger physical endurance.
63.Successful athletes make decisions quickly by _______.
A.referring to previous experience B.ignoring all outside distractions
C.learning from opponents’ strategies D.understanding coaches’ instructions
64.What does the author suggest coaches do after their players have had a hard school day?
A.Lengthen the warm-up for training. B.Set the training intensity adaptively.
C.Prioritize physical over cognitive training. D.Refer to their players’ previous performance.
65.What is the text mainly about?
A.The quality of sports talent. B.The overall training in sports.
C.The cognitive power in sports. D.The variables affecting sports.

In today’s motivational literature, failure is often viewed as something to be celebrated. Inspirational speakers are fond of quoting the words of the novelist Samuel Beckett — “Try again. Fail again. Fail better.” It seems that disappointments are an essential stepping stone to success, a turning point in our life story that will ultimately end in victory
Nevertheless, psychological researches find most of us struggle to handle failure constructively. In other words, we fail to “fail forward”. We find ways to devalue (贬低) the task at which we failed, and become less motivated to persevere and reach our goals. This phenomenon is known as the “sour-grape effect”, which was discovered by Professor Hallgeir Sjastad
Sjastad explains that the “sour-grape effect” is a self-protective mechanism (机制) . “Most of us picture ourselves as competent people, so when external feedback suggests otherwise, it poses a serious threat to that self-image,” he says. “The easiest way out is to deny or explain away the external signal, so we can reduce the inconsistency and preserve a positive sense of self. We do this even without noticing.”
If you have one bad interview for your dream job, you might convince yourself that you don’t really want it at all, and stop applying for similar positions. The same goes if you fail to impress at a sports trial, or if a publisher rejects the first submission of your manuscript. “We tend to explain away our shortcomings and convince ourselves our ‘Plan C’ is actually our ‘Plan A’,” Sjastad says.
It doesn’t mean we should persevere in goals all the time. It can be healthy to change ambitions if the process is no longer making us happy. But the “sour-grape effect” may lead us to come to this decision prematurely, rather than hanging on a little and seeing whether we might learn and improve.
Failures are unavoidable. By learning to face the disappointment instead of devaluing its importance and pretending nothing has happened, you may find it easier to achieve your goals.
66.What can we learn from paragraph 3 about the “sour-grape effect”?
A.It protects us from false feedback.
B.It pictures us as competitive people.
C.It poses a severe threat to the self-image.
D.It denies negative feedback to ourselves.
67.What is the author’s attitude towards failure?
A.Short-sighted. B.Wait-and-see. C.Objective. D.Skeptical.
68.What does the underlined word “prematurely” in paragraph 5 mean?
A.Unhappily. B.Mistakenly. C.Hurriedly. D.Carelessly
69.Which statement would the author most probably agree with?
A.Don’t escape when our self-image is broken.
B.Don’t quit when goals no longer make you happy.
C.Never hesitate to replace “Plan A” with “Plan C”.
D.Never forget to maintain a positive sense of self.
70.What is the main purpose of the author mentioning Samuel Beckett’s quote at the beginning of the passage?
A.To show the popularity of motivational literature in today’s society.
B.To introduce the common positive view on failure as a learning opportunity.
C.To criticize inspirational speakers for misleading the public.
D.To contrast with the following discussion on the “sour-grape effect”.

56.How did Richard Curtis and Rowan Atkinson get to know each other?
A.They worked together for BBC B.They met in the Oxford Playhouse

A.brought Atkinson fame
B.became successful immediately
C.made Atkinson give up physical comedy
D.showed Atkinson’s weakness

A.He kept writing comedies. B.He did not see acting as a job.
C.He did not like physical comedy. D.He had an argument with Curtis.
59.Which work would you recommend to someone who like humor mixed with history?
A.Black Adder. B.Mr. Bean.

根据第一段中“Think Allen Iverson, Scott Pendlebury, or Natalie Medhurst, coolly judging all the options before making important decisions. How do these excellent athletes become so great? As well as their physical strengths, their brainpower is an obvious advantage.( 想想艾伦·艾弗森、斯科特·彭德尔伯里或娜塔莉·梅德赫斯特,在做出重要决定之前,他们会冷静地判断所有的选择。这些优秀的运动员是如何变得如此伟大的?和他们的体力一样,他们的脑力也是一个明显的优势)”可知,文章开篇提到一些著名运动员,然后说他们除了身体优势,脑力也是明显优势。后面围绕运动员的认知技能展开论述,所以提到这些运动员是为了强调在运动中的心智技能(mental skills)。故选C项。
62.细节理解题。根据第二段中“Research conducted at Western Sydney University finds skilled players are better at looking for and seeing the options and what’s happening around them in the playing environment. They tend to look both at an opponent (对手) and at where they can move next. Less skilled players, however, might watch only one detail but not what is happening around them.( 西悉尼大学进行的一项研究发现,熟练的球员更善于寻找和看到选择,以及在比赛环境中他们周围发生的事情。他们倾向于既看对手,又看下一步该往哪里走。然而,技能较差的运动员可能只关注一个细节,而不关注周围发生的事情)”可知,技术娴熟的运动员能更好地寻找和观察比赛环境中的选择以及周围发生的事情,他们会关注对手和自己下一步可以移动的位置,而技术欠佳的运动员可能只关注一个细节。这说明技术娴熟的运动员注意力的关注范围更广。故选B项。
63.细节理解题。根据第三段中“Skilled players are also often faster to make decisions compared to less skilled players; their experiences create more stored memories that help speed up their decision- making.( 与技能较差的运动员相比,技能娴熟的运动员通常也能更快地做出决定;他们的经历创造了更多的记忆,帮助他们加快决策)”可知,与技术欠佳的运动员相比,技术娴熟的运动员决策也更快,他们的经验创造了更多存储的记忆,有助于加快他们的决策速度。 故选A项。
根据第四段中“Coaches should therefore map out appropriate strategies by considering the amount of information they provide for athletes and the complexity of the tasks and instructions.( 因此,教练员应考虑他们提供给运动员的信息量以及任务和指示的复杂性,制定出适当的策略)” 可知,在球员经历了辛苦的学校一天后,教练应该通过考虑为运动员提供的信息量以及任务和指令的复杂性来制定合适的策略,也就是适应性地设置训练强度。故选B项。
通读全文,并结合根据第一段中“Think Allen Iverson, Scott Pendlebury, or Natalie Medhurst, coolly judging all the options before making important decisions. How do these excellent athletes become so great? As well as their physical strengths, their brainpower is an obvious advantage.( 想想艾伦·艾弗森、斯科特·彭德尔伯里或娜塔莉·梅德赫斯特,在做出重要决定之前,他们会冷静地判断所有的选择。这些优秀的运动员是如何变得如此伟大的?和他们的体力一样,他们的脑力也是一个明显的优势)”和第二段中“Research conducted at Western Sydney University finds skilled players are better at looking for and seeing the options and what’s happening around them in the playing environment. They tend to look both at an opponent (对手) and at where they can move next. Less skilled players, however, might watch only one detail but not what is happening around them.( 西悉尼大学进行的一项研究发现,熟练的球员更善于寻找和看到选择,以及在比赛环境中他们周围发生的事情。他们倾向于既看对手,又看下一步该往哪里走。然而,技能较差的运动员可能只关注一个细节,而不关注周围发生的事情)”可知,文章主要论述了在运动中认知技能(cognitive skills)对运动员的重要性,如技术娴熟的运动员在认知方面的优势以及认知技能对运动员决策等方面的影响等。由此可知,这篇文章的主旨是运动中的认知能力。故选C项。
D
【答案】66.D 67.C 68.C 69.A 70.D
根据第三段中“Sjastad explains that “sour-grape effect” is a self-protective mechanism. “Most of us picture ourselves as competent people, so when external feedback suggests otherwise, it poses a serious threat to that self-image,” he says. (Sjastad解释说“酸葡萄效应”是一种自我保护机制。“我们大多数人把自己想象成有能力的人,所以当外部反馈表明情况并非如此时,这种自我形象就会受到严重威胁,”他表示。)”可知,“酸葡萄效应”是一种自我保护机制,会否认外界对于我们的负面反馈,故选D。
67.推理判断题。根据倒数第二段中“It doesn’t mean we should persevere in goals all the time. It can be healthy to change ambitions if the process is no longer making us happy. (这并不意味着我们应该一直坚持目标。如果这个过程不再让我们感到快乐,那么改变雄心壮志可能是健康的。)”和最后一段“Failures are unavoidable. By learning to face the disappointment instead of devaluing its importance and pretending nothing happened, you may find it easier to achieve your goals. (失败是不可避免的。通过学会面对失望,而不是贬低它的重要性,假装什么都没发生,你可能会发现更容易实现你的目标。)”可知,作者认为失败是不可避免的,有时候我们需要失败,同时要面对失败,由此可推知,作者从正反两方面来对待失败,所以说作者对待失败的态度是客观的,故选C。
68.词句猜测题。根据划线单词下文“rather than hanging on a little and seeing whether we might learn and improve. (而不是坚持一会儿,看看我们是否可以学习和提高。)”可知,前后是对比关系,即酸葡萄效应可能导致我们过早地做出这个决定,而不是坚持一会儿,看看我们是否可以学习和提高,由此可推知,划线单词“prematurely”,与“hanging on a little”意思相反,意为“过早地”,与C项“匆忙地”意思相近,故选C。
69.推理判断题。根据最后一段“Failures are unavoidable. By learning to face the disappointment instead of devaluing its importance and pretending nothing happened, you may find it easier to achieve your goals.
Fail again. Fail better.
Over 100 expats (侨民) from 40 countries gathered in Beijing’s Chaoyang District to explore traditional Chinese culture through the practice of tai chi, also known as taijiquan.
Wang Shiting, Secretary of the Party Committee at China Foreign Affairs University (CFAU), noted that tai chi, a form of intangible cultural heritage, has become a cultural bridge that connects people from different countries. “We are delighted to see tai chi lovers worldwide enthusiastically practicing in communities, parks, sporting venues and other places, with tai chi gaining increasing admiration from people across the globe,” Wang added.
Her remarks were delivered at the Taijiquan Salon for Diplomats in China. The event, held in Beijing, was co-hosted by CFAU, the Wushu Administration Center of the General Administration of Sport of China (GASC), Asia Pacific Daily, and the Foreign Affairs Office of Chaoyang District.
Zhang Yuping, Director of the Wushu Sports Management Center, expressed hopes for collaboration with countries around the world to advance wushu culture and realize the vision of “building friendship through martial arts and achieving shared harmony,” declaring that tai chi may appear simple but is actually highly challenging and requires profound inner focus and discipline. She also expressed her hope that such events encourage friendly cooperation and help to deepen mutual understanding.

根据第二段“Wang Shiting, Secretary of the Party Committee at China Foreign Affairs University (CFAU), noted that tai chi, a form of intangible cultural heritage, has become a cultural bridge that connects people from different countries.(外交学院党委书记王士婷表示,太极拳作为非物质文化遗产,已然成为联结各国人民的文化桥梁。)”
根据第四段“Zhang Yuping, Director of the Wushu Sports Management Center, expressed hopes for collaboration with countries around the world to advance wushu culture and realize the vision of “building friendship through martial arts and achieving shared harmony,” declaring that tai chi may appear simple but is actually highly challenging and requires profound inner focus and discipline. (国家体育总局武术运动管理中心主任张玉萍表示,希望同世界各国开展合作,弘扬武术文化,实现“以武会友、和合共生”的愿景。她指出,太极拳看似简单,实则极具难度,需要内心高度专注与自律。)”以及后文“encourage friendly cooperation(鼓励友好合作)”可推断,collaboration含义为“合作”,与cooperation同义。
74.细节理解题。根据第四段“...tai chi may appear simple but is actually highly challenging and requires profound inner focus and discipline.(……太极拳看似简单,实则难度极高,需要深厚的内心专注力与自律心性。)”可知,太极拳本质难度高,需要专注与自律。
75.细节理解题。根据第四段“She also expressed her hope that such events encourage friendly cooperation and help to deepen mutual understanding.(她同时希望这类活动能够促进友好交流合作,加深彼此理解。)”

Dear Tom,
I’m glad to receive your letter inquiring about Stephen Curry and his remarkable sportsmanship.
Yours sincerely,
Li Jin

Skilled players are also often faster to make decisions compared to less skilled players;their experiences
create more stored memories that help speed up their decision-making.Essentially,skilled players know what

In today's motivational literature, failure is often viewed as something to be celebrated.Inspirational
speakers are fond of quoting the words of the novelist Samuel Beckett-"Try again.Fail again.Fail better."It
seems that disappointments are an essential stepping stone to success,a turning point in our life story that will
ultimately end in victory
Nevertheless, psychological researches find most of us struggle to handle failure constructively. In other
words,we fail to "fail forward".We find ways to devalue (the task at which we failed, and become less
motivated to persevere and reach our goals. This phenomenon is known as the"sour-grape effect, which was
discovered by Professor Hallgeir Sjastad
Sjastad explains that the"sour-grape effect"is a self-protective mechanism ()"Most of us picture
ourselves as competent people,so when external feedback suggests otherwise,it poses a serious threat to that
self-image,"he says."The easiest way out is to deny or explain away the external signal,so we can reduce the
inconsistency and preserve a positive sense of self.We do this even without noticing."
If you have one bad interview for your dream job,you might convince yourself that you don't really want it
at all,and stop applying for similar positions. The same goes if you fail to impress at a sports trial,or if a publisher
rejects the first submission of your manuscript."We tend to explain away our shortcomings and convince
ourselves our Plan C'is actually our Plan A',"Sjastad says.
It doesn't mean we should persevere in goals all the time.It can be healthy to change ambitions if the
process is no longer making us happy. But the"sour-grape effect'may lead us to come to this decision
prematurely, rather than hanging on a little and seeing whether we might learn and improve.
Failures are unavoidable.By learning to face the disappointment instead of devaluing its importance and
pretending nothing has happened, you may find it easier to achieve your goals.
66.What can we learn from paragraph 3 about the"sour-grape effect"?
A.It protects us from false feedback.
