1.Life, you should strive to make it beautiful. 2.Humor is not a mood but a way of looking at the world. 3.Laughter is the shortest distance between people. 4.Laughter is the sun that drives winter from the human face. 5.The human race has one really effective weapon, and that is laughter. ——马克·吐温 二、课文不厌百遍读,书中自有“黄金屋” 课文1 The Best Medicine(最佳灵药) As I approach the hospital wearing my white coat, I look just like any other doctor. That is until I put on my curly rainbow wig, big red nose, and add my name badge “Doctor Larry Laugh-Out-Loud”. I walk through the doors into the waiting area, tension. People sit uncomfortably on plastic chairs, looking through old magazines, been read hundreds of times previously. Anxious parents do to comfort nervous and crying children. 句② all of which引导非限制性定语从句,修饰先行词old magazines。 what they can是what they can do 的省略形式。 In the middle of this particular scene I spot a small girl whose ankle is twice its normal size. I speak with the on-duty nurse, who tells me that Lara's parents rushed her to the hospital after she fell off her bicycle. Since getting here, Lara has in pain. [难句破解] 句④ spend time (in) doing sth. 句⑤ Although引导让步状语从句;it's ...who ... Scientific studies show that laughter produces chemicals to make people feel better, which means clown doctors can be helpful. We are specially trained clowns who work as part of a programme . I chose this career because of my experience of going to hospital when I was a kid. Although the doctors and nurses did a great job, hospitals weren't really designed for children. I spent much of the time when I was there feeling frightened and more than a little bored! means I can help people by entertaining them. we clown doctors中的clown doctors是主语we的同位语。 And my magic medicine to do the trick. While the doctor concentrates on examining Lara's ankle, I get her attention by doing a magic trick. Although she is clearly still in some pain, her scared and anxious look has been replaced — first by a small smile, and then by loud laughter as I “magically” produce her sock from out of my pocket. Seeing their daughter so much happier has in turn made Lara's parents more relaxed. 句⑪ 本句使用了it is true that ... 课文2 The Importance of Humour(幽默的重要性) Humour has been an essential part of human behaviour for thousands of years. There is comedy in the texts of Ancient Greece, and medieval writings are filled with jokes. might not be as funny to us now as they were then, their authors understood that humour could not only entertain but also throw new light on sensitive or emotive issues. Closer to modern times, someone who is remembered for his ability to combine humour with more serious messages is American writer, Mark Twain. Twain's particular style of writing is funny and often mischievous. For example, in his classic novel The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, he famously says, “Writing is easy. But he is equally well known for his witty remarks in his everyday interactions with people. For instance, while on a lecture tour of the United States, Twain went into a barber's shop to get a haircut and a shave. The barber, not recognising him, asked if he had a ticket to the lecture. When Twain replied that he didn't, the barber told him that if he wanted to go to the event he would have to stand, as there were no seats left in the theatre. Twain's response was, “That's just my luck. I always have to stand when that fellow lectures!” Like Twain, but on the other side of the world, the Chinese writer Wang Zengqi was soon to become famous for his own unique brand of humour. In his essay “On Humour”, Wang used fewer than 600 characters to introduce several humorous examples of famous people, concluding that, “The world is full of amusing things. The thought of them would always make you laugh out loud, Wang believed that humour not only shows one's personality, but also reflects a person's attitude towards life. He himself gives the best example to the word “humour”.One day, one of his readers flattered him by saying, “Gaoyou is famous for, first, the poet Qin Shaoyou and second, Wang Zengqi.” Wang didn't show any displeasure but only gave a gentle response,“No. Gaoyou salted duck eggs are much more famous than me.I can only stay in the third place.” On another occasion, Wang was invited to give a speech in the US and was scheduled to speak last. He walked to the podium and began, “Unfortunately, none of today's speakers have last names starting with X, Y, or Z, so I am the last one to speak. Speaking last is difficult .But don't worry. My speech will be as short as a rabbit's tail.” Both Twain and Wang understood that humour isn't just about laughter but is a way of life and a tool that can be used to illuminate the world. Wang once said, “Life may be like a dream, short and uncertain. But I pour my true feelings into it. The world gave me its love first, so I cannot help but love it back.” Life is never smooth sailing and sometimes can be complicated and cruel. But humour can help us maintain our enthusiasm for life. In fact, some may argue that our need for humour is almost as great as our need for water and air. In the words of Mark Twain,“Humor is mankind's greatest blessing”. 使快乐 拓展 11.health care 医疗保健 12.cheer up (使)高兴起来,(使)振作起来 13.do the trick 奏效,达到预期效果 14.examine v. [推荐范文] Hello, everyone! I'd like to stress the importance of having a positive attitude.Personally, our attitudes towards life determine how happy we are. We can't always change what happens to us, but we can change the way we look at things. If we have a positive attitude, we can overcome difficulties and get ready for greater challenges. What should we do to develop a positive attitude? First, focus on the bright side of things instead of complaining about the negative side.Second, be grateful. No matter how difficult our situation seems, there is always something to be grateful for. Besides, making friends with positive people, watching positive shows, listening to positive music, and reading positive books are all good ways to develop a positive attitude. With a positive attitude, we can live a happy life. That's all. Thank you. Moments later, my head was finally released from this horrible pumpkin cage. Then Mom told me she had just filmed me managing to pull my head out of the pumpkin. That video was posted the day before Halloween. Actually my mom had asked whether she could post it on the Internet, because after all I was so embarrassed and looked so silly in it. Anyway, I nodded and supported her idea. It turned out that people liked and forwarded it crazily on the Internet, only to make me an Internet celebrity. I decided to bravely face my bad luck. I began actively communicating with people around me. I did exercise frequently. I met many challenges in life, but my loved ones always supported me. Finally, I managed to return to school. Although I couldn't play football any more, I focused on writing football stories. Now, I have become a successful sports editor, spreading fun in sports and encouraging people like me to have a bright future in their own way. Story A He noticed that the saucer was an antique and very valuable, so he walked casually into the store and innocently offered to buy the cat for 20 dollars. The store owner replied, “I'm sorry, but the cat isn't for sale.” The collector said, “Please, I need a hungry cat with a good appetite around the house to catch mice.I'll pay you 200 dollars for that cat.” The owner said “sold” and handed over the cat. The collector continued, “Hey, for the 200 dollars I wonder if you could throw in that old saucer. The cat's used to it and it'll save me from having to get a dish.” And the owner said, “Sorry my friend, but that's my lucky saucer. So far this week I've sold 68 cats.” Story B A middle-aged man was feeling very down. Everything had been going wrong for him. He had had problems at work and his wife had left him for another man.So, after he had been feeling depressed for over a month, he decided to go to the doctor. doctor's surgery. The bleeding man next to him was looking at his watch nervously; a woman was coughing and sneezing badly; and a baby was screaming. Finally, after he had been waiting for about half an hour, he was called in for his consultation. The doctor was writing a note at her desk when he came in.“Sorry, I'm just finishing something.I'm afraid we've been very busy this morning.” She then turned to the man.“So, what's the problem?” she asked. “Well, I've been having a bit of a crisis, you know, lots of problems,” replied the man.“And I've been doing a lot of work.” “Mmm, you're looking very pale.” The doctor started to examine him.“Well, everything is working OK,” she announced afterwards.“You have slightly high blood pressure and you're breathing quite heavily, but otherwise everything's fine.” “So what can I do?” asked the man.“I'm going on a trip soon.I will be working in the United States for three months. This time next week, I'll be arriving in New York.” The doctor thought for a while.“I think what you need is a good laugh. That would do you a lot of good.A circus is performing in town. Why don't you go to see it? really make you laugh. His name's Grock.” “I am Grock,” replied the man sadly. 句③ hear后为省略that的宾语从句,其中又包含who引导的定语从句,修饰先行词clown; make you laugh为 make sb.do sth. The British are known for their sense of humour. However, it is often difficult for foreigners to understand their jokes. The main point to remember is that the British often use understatement. Understatement means saying less than you think or feel. For example, if someone gets very wet in shower of rain, he might say, “It's a little damp outside.” Or, if someone is very impolite and shouts at another person, someone else might say, “She isn't exactly friendly.” Understatement is often used in unpleasant situation or to make another person look silly.Understatement plays an important part in British humour. Another key to understanding British humour is that the British like to make fun of themselves as well as others. They often laugh about the silly and unpleasant things that happen to our everyday life. For example, they laugh when someone accidentally falls over in the street. They also like to make jokes about people from different classes of society. They like to make jokes about their accents, the way they dress and the way they behave. What's more, people who do not know how to behave in society. The comedy series Mr Bean is a good example of this kind of humour. Mr Bean is the character created by British actor Rowan Atkinson in 1990. Mr Bean doesn't talk often, and instead he uses his body movements and facial expressions to make people laugh. real world cannot do. Mr Bean is popular in many countries around the world because you do not have to speak English to understand the humour.Because of this, many people have become familiar with the British sense of humour. [难句破解] 句① who引导定语从句,修饰先行词people; how to behave ...
