1.Although it's the doctors and nurses who will treat her injury, it's my job to make her feel better. 2.Although the doctors and nurses did a great job, hospitals weren't really designed for children. [提能训练|完成句子] ①Although he is known to only a few, his reputation among them is very great. ②It was because of the delicious local food that she fell in love with the city. ③Our country is developing at an amazing speed, which makes us feel so proud. (三)赏描摹之韵(场景描写) I walk through the doors into the waiting area, where there's a familiar atmosphere of boredom and tension. People sit uncomfortably on plastic chairs, looking through old magazines, all of which have been read hundreds of times previously.Anxious parents do what they can to comfort nervous and crying children. [提能训练|完成句子] ①He shifted uncomfortably in his seat when I mentioned the accident. ②As the great day approached, she grew more and more nervous. Finding humour can be difficult when we live with anxiety. However, if we begin to look for humour, we can find that laughter can be a great coping skill. Researchers have discovered that laughter has many benefits. Among the ways laughter lifts us by increasing our overall well-being and boosting our mental health. When we live with anxiety, our stress hormones pulse through us. This makes us feel tense and anxious. for anything in our life, a good laugh can instantly begin to reduce these harmful stress hormones that are mixed with anxiety. Laughter gets to work immediately, and a regular “diet” of laughter continues to decrease anxiety over time. The act of laughing is similar to deep breathing in its ability to increase the oxygen in our bodies. Combined with reducing stress hormones, the increased oxygen in our bodies helps lead to muscle relaxation. All of this helps reduce the physical symptoms of anxiety. Laughing feels good. It's addictive and we can keep wanting more. When we laugh regularly, our anxiety begins to decrease. When we have humour and give ourselves a chance to laugh a little bit for even a short while each day, we distract our focus. Rather than seeing the world within or without as a worrying place, we start to see it as a good, safe, and perhaps even fun place. We start to see beyond the anxiety. Sure, the anxiety lingers (徘徊) for a while, but every time we laugh, we can reduce it. Introducing intentional laughter into our life decreases our stress hormones. Breathing deeply during the act of laughing relaxes muscles. Thinking about something funny shifts our focus to new things. Having humour regularly helps our outlook become more positive. [阅读理解] 1.What can make us feel nervous? A.Pulsing stress hormones. B.Lacking sense of humour. According to a recent study, the answer is YES! Having a laugh causes the tissue inside the heart to expand and increases oxygen flow around the body. Patients with coronary artery disease (冠心病) who engaged in a course of laughter therapy had reduced inflammation (炎症) and better health, the research found. In the study, scientists carried out a first-of-its-kind experiment to examine if laughter therapy could improve symptoms of patients with heart disease. It involved 26 adults with an average age of 64, all diagnosed with coronary artery disease. Over three months, half were asked to watch two different hour-long comedy programs each week, including popular sitcoms. The other half watched two different serious documentaries, about topics such as politics and religion. At the end of the 12-week study period, the comedy group improved by 10% in a test measuring how much oxygen their heart could pump around the body. The group also improved in a second measure that tested how well arteries can expand. They also had blood tests to measure several inflammatory biomarkers (炎症指标), which indicate how much plaque (斑块) has built up in the blood vessels, and whether people are at risk of heart attack or stroke. The results showed that these inflammatory biomarkers had significantly reduced compared with the control group. “When patients with coronary artery disease arrive at hospital, they have a lot of inflammatory biomarkers,” said the lead researcher, Prof Marco Saffi, of the Hospital de Clínicas de Porto Alegre in Brazil. The findings were presented at the annual meeting of the European Society of Cardiology in Amsterdam, the world's largest heart disease conference. 1.Which of the following is mentioned in the text? In 1995, while writing an article for a health journal, Dr Kataria discovered many modern scientific studies describing the benefits of laughter on the human mind and body.In particular, he was impressed by Norman Cousins' book Anatomy of an Illness and the research work by Dr Lee Berk. Then he began to field-test the effect of laughter on himself and others. Starting with just five people, on March 13th, 1995, at a public park in his neighbourhood, Dr Kataria started the first laughter club. They laughed together in the park to the amusement of by-standers, and the small group quickly grew to more than 50 people within a few days.In the early meetings, they stood in a circle with one person in the center to tell a joke or a funny story.Everybody enjoyed themselves and felt good for the rest of the day. However, after two weeks, their jokes and stories ran out. Some complained that it would be better to discontinue the club than to continue without any jokes.Dr Kataria asked the club members to give him one day to develop a breakthrough that would solve the problem. That night, Dr Kataria reviewed his research and finally found the answer. Our body cannot differentiate between pretend and genuine laughter. In fact, both produced the same effect. The next morning, the results were amazing. For some, the make-believe (伪装) laughter quickly turned into real laughter.Soon the group was laughing like never before. The hearty laughter that followed lasted for almost ten minutes. This was the birth of Laughter Yoga. 5.What can we infer about Madan Kataria from paragraph 2?
