Before arriving in China, I had read various books relating to China, famous Chinese novels as well as non-fiction and the seeds of my fascination were sown. Therefore, when I arrived I couldn’t have been more excited to be living in this huge historically and culturally rich country. The food, the landmarks, the fantastic cities and everyday life — I was burning to explore.
Yet despite my enthusiasm, learning Chinese hadn’t even entered my mind. This wasn’t ignorance or laziness, but rather fright at the thought of attempting to learn what is regarded as the most difficult language in the world. In my mind, the Chinese language was the privilege of the highly intelligent.
However, after a year in China I began to feel uncomfortable with how many Chinese people could speak English and yet I couldn’t even speak the most basic Chinese. With these factors in mind and a thirst for a new challenge I determined to begin my language journey.
In the two years since starting to learn I have made measurable progress. I found it less difficult than thought. When speaking to native Chinese speakers in Chinese they almost always understand me, I have also not found it too difficult to remember characters and I am now even able to write over 400 characters. I find studying the language relaxing and rewarding.
In spite of my progress, it has still been the challenge that has taken a lot of hard work and commitment. The thing I find most discouraging is listening since native speakers talk at such a speed, I can’t always understand what’s been said, but my weekly online language exchanges help with this. Furthermore, there is a long way to go before I reach my goal of fluency. The key to progress is to be patient and persistent.
My biggest harvest from learning Chinese is that it’s not only reachable but can also be enjoyable. Learning Chinese not only helped me in day-to-day life, but deepened my cultural understanding of such a diverse and interesting country. Now my only regret is that I didn’t start earlier.
24. Which can best describe the author’s original impression about learning Chinese?
A. Boring. B. Pleasant.

B. Many Chinese speak fluent English.
C. It isn’t as tough as he once assumed.
D. It is beyond his power to learn characters.
26. What does paragraph 5 mainly tell us?
A. Importance of learning Chinese.
B. Barriers of learning a new language.
C. Significant progress the author has made.
D. Certain difficulties the author met along the way.
27. What is the best title for the text?
A. A New Opinion in Learning
B. My Journey of Learning Chinese

Telemedicine is the name for when doctors give advice to patients by telephone or the Internet, or when health care providers in rural areas connect with specialists in big cities. Telemedicine has existed for a long time, but the rise of smartphone, tablets and webcam-equipped computers is raising telemedicine to new levels. Some health care systems in the United States now offer Virtual Urgent Care, so patients can see a doctor by video chat without having to leave home.
Diana Rae recently showed how Virtual Urgent Care works. She used an iPad tablet and Skype — the video chat service.
Doctor Green first has the patient describe her symptoms (症状). Then the doctor performs a physical exam by showing what he wants her to do. Doctor Green decides that the problem is an infection (感染) and gives her some medicine. He says about 3 out of 4 patients who have health problems can be treated like this — through Virtual Urgent Care, which means a video chat could substitute a visit to the doctor’s office.
The Franciscan Health System charges $35 for this kind of virtual house call. That is much less than the cost of going to an emergency room, a doctor’s office or an urgent care clinic. After trying the video conference, Diana Rae says she would be happy to pay the 35 dollars, when she was recently home with a bad cold. “I would have paid twice that for the convenience of getting taken care of without having to sit in a waiting room, wait, and get exposed to everyone else’s germs (细菌). ” Rae said.
But a company official says state rules have not kept progress with development in telemedicine. The workers who provide Virtual Urgent Care must be licensed separately in each state where the company does business. For now, that means Franciscan doctors can treat patients in Washington state and California, for example, but not in neighboring Oregon or Idaho.
28. What purpose does paragraph1 serve in the passage?
A. To persuade people to use telemedicine.
B. To claim the benefits of health care systems.
C. To make a general introduction of telemedicine.
D. To give a brief description of health care systems.
29. What does the underlined word “substitute” in paragraph2 mean?
A. Organize. B. Replace. C. Arrange. D. Postpone.
30. What does Diana Rae think of Virtual Urgent Care?
A. Convenient and safe. B. Flexible and sufficient.
C. Time-saving but dangerous. D. Advanced but expensive.
31. Why can’t Virtual Urgent Care develop fast now?
A. People don’t have enough access to the health care system.
B. The state rules have prevented it from developing fast.
C. Some states are in badly need of Franciscan doctors.
D. The workers are not permitted to get licenses.

Technology is likely to play a big part in reaching its climate goals in the future.
Fusion is the process that fires the sun. But some experts say it could someday power our homes. Fusion happens when the nuclei (核) of two atoms are subjected to extreme heat. This leads to the formation of a new larger atom and large amounts of energy. One problem is the process itself requires a large amount of energy. Developers of the technology haven’t yet performed a fusion reaction that releases more energy than it requires. In addition, running an electric power plant of fusion would require the resulting heat to be contained in an economical way.
Advanced nuclear plants would be smaller than today’s massive nuclear reactors. Experts say they could be used in rural areas and could take over for wind and solar power when the sun goes down or the wind dies. But advanced nuclear reactors are difficult and costly to build. Critics say they would also create more waste. And they would run on uranium (铀), which could make some advanced reactors more appealing to militants (激进分子) seeking materials to make weapons.
Currently, there are 15 direct air capture plants operating worldwide, getting CO directly from the air and puts the gas underground. The costs are currently high. But supporters say those costs will fall as the technology improves. They also say tax breaks for businesses could help the technology. But critics say offering large credits could actually lead to more plants continuing to burn fossil fuels.
Hydrogen (氢) can be mixed with natural gas to make a cleaner-burning fuel. This could power a fuel cell vehicle. Such a vehicle would release environmentally friendly water vapors.
So-called clean hydrogen can be produced using energy methods such as wind and solar. But those methods are more costly than “grey hydrogen”, which is made with fossil fuels. Geothermal power plants capture heat up to 370 degrees Celsius far below the earth’s surface. The heat creates steam that can turn turbines (涡轮机) to produce electricity. But the technology would need to greatly expand to become a major alternative to fossil fuels.
32. How does the author develop the passage?
A. By analyzing the cost.
B. By introducing the values.
C. By weighing the positive and negative.
D. By following the order of great importance.
33. What can we learn from the text?
A. Carbon Capture is in the theoretical stage.
B. Nuclear fusion has been widely used in families.
C. Grey hydrogen belongs to environmental protection energy
D The advanced nuclear plants have hidden dangers of making weapons.
34. What technology is suitable for countries having the heat in the interior(内部)of the earth?
A. Geothermal power. B. Carbon Capture.
C. Advanced Nuclear. D. Fusion and Hydrogen.
35. What is the best title for the text?
A. New Issues Facing Climate Goals
B. Develop New Energy According to Local Conditions
C. What Are the Future Development Goals of Clean Energy?
D. Which Technologies Could Help the World Reach Its Climate Goals?

第三部分 书面表达(共两节,30分)

阅读下面短文,根据题目要求用英文回答问题。请在答题卡指定区域作答。
In 1983, Howard Gardner, a professor at Harvard, published Frames of Mind: The Theory of Multiple Intelligences. In the book, he presented one type of intelligence that everyone must develop if they want to be successful. That is emotional intelligence.
Emotional intelligence refers to the ability to identify and regulate your own emotions. It means having a deep understanding of yourself, knowing your own strengths and weaknesses, and handling reactions and emotions wisely. Emotional intelligence is critical for success in almost any field and it is especially important for high- stress environments, for example, when times are tough and when a person wants to quit or is fearful.
We all know highly emotional people. Rather than react wisely, they tend to let their emotions run their lives, often saying or doing something they may later regret. I’ve seen many people do this on social media, getting in arguments with loved ones over trivial stuff because they have different opinions. This inability to master the self leads to many struggles and heartaches for people.
Emotional intelligence does not mean being void (没有) of emotions. It means you know it is okay to be angry, just not out-of-control angry. You know it’s okay to feel hurt, but it is not okay to do something stupid in the name of revenge (报复). Many of us know people who are very intelligent, but allow their emotions to damage their lives.
Now, reflect on how you manage your emotions. Are you smart in the way you express what you’ re feeling, especially when the pressure is on?
41. According to the passage, what is “emotional intelligence”?
