Sanyé Mylo's eyes twinkle with excitement when he stands in the sound booth of The Record Co.in Boston, eager to bring his creation to life. With the press of a button, his latest rap track fills the room.“I didn't know spaces like this existed,” says Mylo, who grew up in the low-income neighborhood of Dorchester. He is one of the young musicians who, thanks to The Record Co., has turned his music into a full-time occupation.
Founded in 2010 by Matt McArthur, The Record Co.aims to give musicians more affordable access to the creative workspace and introduce the world of music to those who may have never considered their place in it.
McArthur understands this challenge first-hand.As a music technology student at Berklee College of Music, he was frustrated by the high costs of renting time in production studios. On average, a recording studio in Boston costs more than $100 per hour to rent.
He saw a recording studio not as a private office for a man of _______ but as a community center available to all.So he took out loans, collected donations and opened a studio in a tiny basement in Cambridge, Massachusetts.Slowly but steadily, McArthur expanded it and eventually rented a new property to include spaces for practice and production.
Today, The Record Co., with a full-time staff of more than 20 people, is a state-of-the-art, 12,000-foot facility that can be rented for as little as $10 per hour. Each month, it receives about 1,000
means
reservations, and around 3,500 musicians pass through its doors. At The Record Co., the principle is clear: Music should be affordable for everyone, and so should the space for creating it.The building has been shaped not only with an ear to acoustics (音响效果) but also with an eye to ensure it is as welcoming to a musician in a wheelchair as to one who walks in with a guitar over the shoulder.

“Do you have Wi-Fi?” It's my most-asked question when visiting new cities.Nowadays, having access to Wi-Fi is essential if you plan on making the most of any trip abroad. But far too often I spend $5 for a tiny cup of coffee just to use a café's Wi-Fi and charging port.Replacing this costly exchange with their interpretation of a city center, the designer of Kuube, a Hungarian start-up, has created a smart bench equipped with all the necessities that a modern-day traveler might need to comfortably move through any city.
Kuube's smart bench comes in three sizes. All come with USB ports, wireless chargers, and a Wi-Fi hotspot function — free for everyone. All three smart benches charge up thanks to solar panels, which makes them easily movable.
First comes KuubeECO, the smallest of the three smart benches. It's a three-seater that comes equipped with two USB ports and one wireless charger. It has unlimited Internet access thanks to its Wi-Fi hotspot. The bench with one display screen continuously monitors its
environment, such as changes in UV levels or air pressure — displaying them on its monitor for those interested. Then comes KuubeNANO, the middle child that can seat up to four people and comes with all the same offerings as KuubeECO.And finally comes the largest option, KuubePLUS.This smart bench offers more of a group, or family seating style and can accommodate up to eight people. It offers four charging options and two display screens.
The three smart benches all have an aluminum chassis (铝制底座) that's recyclable and are made from natural ash wood for the seating sections.Kuube is clearly a sustainability-focused start-up that's combining design and technology to make cities and parks friendlier to everyone.

The cultural products we create reflect the times we live in.“Works of popular culture, we reasoned, should reflect the extent to which nature occupies our collective consciousness (集体意识),” says psychologist Dr Selin Kesebir.“If novelists, songwriters or film-makers have fewer encounters with nature these days than before, or if they don't expect their audiences to respond to it, nature would feature less frequently in their works.”
The researchers drew up a list of 186 nature-related words belonging to four categories: general words relating to nature such as cloud, or sunrise; names of flowers; names of trees; and birds' names. Then they analyzed how often these occurred in the output of popular culture. They looked at English-language fiction, pop songs and film plots, each of which featured thousands of examples.
The results were consistent across books, songs and movies.“The space taken by nature has been decreasing in the collective imagination and cultural conversation since the 1950s.Nature features significantly less in English popular culture today than it did in the first half of the 20th century,” says Dr Kesebir.
Why? Some people suggest it's the growth of cities that has fuelled the change.“Urbanization swallows up natural areas and cuts people off from their natural surroundings,” says Dr Kesebir. But, she goes on, the growth rate of cities over the 20th century is gradual, but the data shows a marked change from the 1950s onwards. So it's not just the fact that fewer of us are living in rural areas that explains the decline.
More likely, she believes, we're seeing the impact of technological change leading to more indoor recreational activities.Yes, TV, video games and the Internet are to blame.“These technologies may well have been substituted for nature as a source of joy, recreation and entertainment.”
Books, songs and films shape our culture as well as reflecting it, says Dr Kesebir.“The declining cultural attention to nature means a ________ of the message that nature is worth paying attention to and talking about. It also means a loss of opportunities to awaken curiosity, appreciation and awe for nature.”

How to Write a Movie Review
Whether it's for pleasure or a job requirement, writing a good movie review can be a useful exercise. 16 If you've recently watched a film and want to share your opinions about it, here are some tips to help you compose a wonderful movie review.
Follow your main text with a short plot summary. It's good to give readers an idea of the movie you're reviewing.Give a brief summary of the main characters, the setting and the central conflict of the movie.Never break the number one rule of movie reviews: don't give too much away. 17
Move into your analysis of the movie.Write several paragraphs discussing the interesting elements in the movie that support your points.Discuss the acting, the direction, the cinematography and the setting, keeping your writing clear and easy to understand. 18
Use plenty of examples to back up your points. If you make a statement about the movie, back it up with a descriptive example.Describe the way scenes look, the way a certain person acted, camera angles, and so on. 19 In this way you are giving your readers a feel of the movie and continuing to express your comments on the film at the same time.
20 You could treat your review like a formal college essay. But it's more interesting if you make it your own.If your writing style is usually humorous or interesting, your review should be no exception. If you're serious or dramatic, that works, too.Let your language and writing style reflect your unique view and personality — it's much more entertaining for the readers.
A.Give it some personality.
B.Don't ruin the movie for your readers.
C.It is necessary to keep a humorous writing style.
D.You should first watch enough movies on your own.
E.You can use dialogues to help you express your views.
F.So don't use too many technical terms about film-making.
G.It allows you to explore your personal connection with a film.

A year ago, Mary Smith bought a computer for the whole family, never thinking that it would lead to her sixteen-year-old son Tom becoming addicted to playing games.
Tom was playing computer games for increasing amounts of time, and gradually, he hardly left his seat.Mary tried to limit his game time, but this only seemed to fuel his addiction further and cause more arguments.
Although desperate, Mary never gave up on finding a way to help the boy struggling with this gaming addiction. She decided to take Tom to visit his grandfather, who owned a big farm.Every day, his grandfather walked through rows of crops, examining the plants for pests or disease. He found great satisfaction in caring for the land and animals. For him, the farm was not just a place of work but a way of life.Tom was unwilling to leave his game, but he knew it was not a good idea to go against his mother this time.
When they arrived at the airport in the late afternoon, Grandfather drove them to his farm. They were all packed in the car, with adults chatting and laughing, but Tom felt lonely.Looking out of the window, he was attracted by the amazing scenery. The water was blue and sunlight glittered on its clear surface and the grassland flowed like a sea of green. He couldn't help thinking of the world he would have designed in his computer game.
After settling down, Tom shut himself in his room.Except for dinner, he refused to come out of his room and remained there all day.Sometimes, he stood by the window, staring at the peaceful garden his grandfather had made.
One night, drops of water from the ceiling dripped onto his face, making him wake up.Shocked at what he saw, he realized a big rainstorm had just ended. He stood with his nose pressed against the glass, watching his family struggling to clear the mess in the dim light.
注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式作答。
Thinking of the efforts his grandfather had made, Tom knew what he must do immediately.________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________
He was appreciating the renewed garden when his mom came over. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
参考范文:
Thinking of the efforts his grandfather had made, Tom knew what he must do immediately. He opened the door and rushed outside without a second thought.Picking up a broom, he began to sweep away the fallen leaves and the broken branches, his eyes fixed on the ground. His face was full of determination and sweat started to stream down his cheeks despite the coldness in the dark. His family looked at him in surprise and then smiled with relief.Tom worked hard, feeling a sense of purpose he hadn't experienced in a long time.As they continued working bit by bit, the garden started to take on a new look.
He was appreciating the renewed garden when his mom came over. She gently put her hand on his shoulder and said, “I'm so proud of you, Tom.” Tom lowered his head slightly, his cheeks flushing with shame.“Mom, I'm really sorry for always being so obsessed with games.I didn't realize how much I was missing out on until now.” His mom's eyes softened, and she pulled him into a warm hug.“It's okay, honey.I'm just glad you're here with us now.” Tom smiled, realizing that the real world held joys far greater than any virtual one in games. From then on, he spent more time with family and less time glued to the computer screen.

When I was a teenager, I knew nothing about mental health. If you talked about “safe spaces”, I'd think that you meant a bank. What's more, I didn't care about mental health. Why would I? As Dad used to say, “If it isn't broken, don't fix it!”
But unfortunately my mental health did “break”.I was diagnosed (诊断) as seriously clinically anorexic (厌食的) at age 23.I had immediate treatment in hospital, which lasted two and a half years.People always wonder what helped me recover and the key was simple: comedy.
I'm a professional stand-up comic.Comedy began as my hobby and has progressed into a job.The word “comedy” is believed to come from the Ancient Greek kōmos meaning “to reveal”, whose job is to reveal, explain and understand things. This was something I turned to when I was in recovery from anorexia.I'd never been able to explain what going on inside my head; trying to explain what's going on in your mind is like trying to explain a color to someone who's blind. So humour became a way of understanding things and then a way of explaining them.
Dr Dieter Declercq, Lecturer in Film at the University of Kent, believes “Humour can change our opinions on a difficult situation”.However, he adds carefully that “We should avoid judgments like All humour is good for you.” In his new book Satire, Comedy and Mental Health, he looks at how comedy can be used as a mental health method.Enjoyed with others, __ is important for good mental health and recovery.

The day starts officially at 9:00 a.m., but Laanelinnu kindergarten that widely gains a liking of working parents opens two hours earlier and does not close until 7:00 p.m.In doing so, working parents won't worry about being late for work and leaving the office early.
The kindergarten focuses on pre-school education.Classrooms, with vast windows fronting onto forest, fan out around a whitewashed central hall, and outside a large playground surrounds the entire building. Some of the children who attend Laanelinnu are as young as two, but as we enter the building barely a sound can be heard. In each of the classrooms, which are large and well equipped, there are up to 20 children — attentive and focused — ___________ by a qualified pre-school teacher and two assistant teachers.

Despite having visitors, the children at Laanelinnu focus on their lessons. In one darkened classroom, they lie on their backs in a quiet corner as their teachers prepare for the day ahead. In another class, there's music and dancing. In another group, children are doing a project about the human body, while next door there's a cookery class going on, with a tasting period followed by bread-making.
The pre-school course takes in everything from letters and language skills to art, music and robotics. “Though it's not called school, it's the first step of their education,” says the kindergarten's project manager. “We do teach kids here.It is no longer simply childcare.” By the time they leave, most children will have learned to read and write, but in a relaxed and play-led environment.

How to Be Authentic (真实的)
A lot of people tend to put on different faces around different people, or tailor their personality based on context.Nevertheless, when a person is authentic, they stay true to themselves and act in ways that show how they feel. 16 Now, let's explore some practical tips that can guide you on the path to being authentic.
Accept yourself for who you are. 17 Try to be slower to criticize yourself or see yourself not as good as others.Focus on accepting and appreciating who you are as a unique individual. This will lead to authentic behaviors in line with your personality.
Don't put on a different face or personality for social functions. In order to be authentic, simply be yourself in all social and interpersonal contexts. 18 However, it is not authentic, and other people will see through you quickly.Of course, it's only natural to slightly modify your behavior and vocabulary around certain people. You talk to your boss differently than you talk to your partner.
Express your thoughts and feelings. 19 Authentic people are comfortable speaking their mind and communicating when they have a problem or are appreciative of something. If you feel uneasy to speak your mind, or realize that you frequently only say what you think those around you expect to hear, you're likely to behave inauthentically.
20 It not only builds genuine relationships but also contributes to a sense of inner peace and self-satisfaction.Remember, the journey towards authenticity is ongoing and develops with self-discovery and life experiences.
A.Express gratitude to those around you.
B.This can be perceived as insincere or rude.
C.Talk about your opinion when it matters to you.
D.This often requires a mental attitude adjustment.
E.Being authentic is about being true in thoughts, feelings, and actions.
F.Sometimes you may tend to act the way you think others want to impress them.
G.They also display a consistent set of values, and don't change their behavior at will.
17.选D 根据上句“Accept yourself for who you are.”
19.选C 根据上句“Express your thoughts and feelings.”
