Acupuncture()is an ancient Chinese system of medicine which involves the practice
of putting fine needles into the skin.To research the beginning of the art and the practice of
acupuncture,we must go back to ancient China.
The oldest records of ancient Chinese acupuncture are thought to be from around 1600 BC
or almost4,O00 years ago..Archaeological excavations(考古挖掘)of sites around China
through the last century have brought to light a number of pointed stones which are ancient
acupuncture needles. The history of ancient acupuncture began with the use of these stones.
and then animal bones were used.Later still, bamboo needles were used for the same
purpose.
A life-sized bronze(man was created to show acupuncture points on the body and
greatly contributed to the development of ancient Chinese acupuncture. The creator of this
man,Wang Weiyi, had the idea of making two statues()in bronze representing a man
from the front and the behind. On these statues were 657 acupuncture points. These statues
were used in the imperial acupuncture exams for new acupuncturists in ancient
China. The statues were coated in thick wax()and filled with water. The student taking
the exam would locate the needle into the wax. When the needle was pulled out,a small drop
of water would be evident if the student had needled the correct point.
The great contribution of the Chinese to acupuncture practice is that they have developed
a complete systemic method.Described in many text books,it is taught at universities. The
practice of acupuncture has come a long way since its ancient beginning but the interest in
learning and the desire to understand this ancient art are as fresh as ever.

Imagine having a six-figure income, owning at least one home and sitting on a spare
$1 million in investable assets(资产).Surely a sign that you've“made it'”and are,by global
standards,incredibly rich?
Apparently not.
A recent survey of affluent(US investors by global financial services firm UBS
found 70%of people meeting these criteria don't consider themselves wealthy.Only those
with $5 million or more in assets thought they have enough set aside to feel secure about their
future, while the majority of the rest feared a single setback()could have a major effect
on their lifestyle.
So,if millionaires don't consider themselves wealthy, where does that leave the rest of
us?If we're unlikely to "feel"rich,no matter how much we earn,is it really worth aspiring to
get there at all?
Decades of psychological research has already disproved the idea that money can buy long-
term happiness, with one study even suggesting that lottery winners ended up no more
satisfied with their lives after a big win.And The New York Times reported in February about
billionaires suffering personal struggles.
"As people get wealthier, they are more satisfied to start, but at some stage there is no
additional increase in satisfaction,"explains Jolanda Jetten,a professor in social psychology at the
University of Queensland in Australia.
She says plenty of high earners can't get off the boring job, even if they're aware that
their happiness or quality of life won't improve, because they become too defined by their
wealth.
This, she explains,is because rich people, just as the less well-off,make upwards
comparisons, rating their income, home, investments or possessions against those of even
richer friends and colleagues, rather than the rest of the population.
"The more money you make, the more you also have a need for more money-it's like an
addiction,”she says..
1.What did the recent survey by UBS find?
A.Many rich people are living in anxiety.
B.The criteria of being rich have changed.
C.People take different attitudes to wealth.
D.Many rich people don't feel they're rich.
2.What's the author's attitude towards the meaning of meeting the criteria in Paragraph 4?
A.Positive.
B.Indifferent.
C.Doubtful.
D.Ambiguous.
3.Why do many rich people refuse to leave the boring job?
A.They attempt to acquire more wealth.
B.They expect to make more contributions.
C.They desire to improve their quality of life.
D.They want to raise their level of happiness
4.What prevents rich people from getting more satisfaction according to Jolanda Jetten?
A.Taking on too much responsibility.
B.Comparing with those who are richer.
C.Setting some unrealistic career goals.
D.Having high expectations of themselves.

While their students were enjoying winter holidays,a group of teachers from around the
state were learning the technical art of cheese-making in readiness for practical lessons in the
classroom later this year.
The professional development course was held at New Town High School and coordinated
(by Home Economics Institute of Australia Tasmania Division (HEIATD),with
support from the Tasmanian Agricultural Education Network.
Karen Weitnauer, the vice president and home economics teacher of HEIATD,said she
had run similar courses for the public, producers and New Town High School students, but
this was the first professional development course for teachers."These skills can be applied in
a classroom setting in agriculture or food technology, she said.
During the two-day course,Brisbane-based master cheese maker Graham Redhead taught
nine teachers to make ricotta, mozzarella, quark and Persian feta()and create a pizza
for lunch, using the cheese they had made. The feta was cut and put into glass jars then dipped in
olive oil with herbs from Mrs.Weitnauer's garden.
"It's really about field-to-fork with milk, herbs from my home garden, preserving and
then making the final product. We also milled wheat and made flour for the pizza dough. It
shows the journey of the food and they understand where the food comes from so the teachers can
pass that on to their students,"Mrs.Weitnauer said.
Each teacher went back to their respective schools with a booklet including information
about the cheese making process, recipes and links to the curriculum,to help them work the
lessons into food and fibre production.
Many schools have gardens or raise animals and learning about different production
methods is an important aspect of agricultural education.

B.He was interested in technology.

A.It is hard to make the food.
B.The product may be expensive.
C.The food is green and healthy.
D.The students enjoy the food very much.
4.When the teachers have difficulty in their lessons, they can

Moving to a different country for your studies can be very difficult. This blog will offer
you some suggestions on how to overcome it.
Suggestion 1-Be open-minded
When I first arrived in the UK,I was extremely scared.1 I found it difficult to adjust
to different aspects of UK society.
One of the most effective ways to overcome the culture shock is to try and be open-
minded.2 Not only does this make it easier to deal with, but you may also find certain
things that you may like.Turn the shock into a learning experience or even treat it like an
adventure, because to be honest, that's what it is!
Suggestion 2-Ask questions
If there is one thing I wish I did more,it would be asking questions.University life can be
difficult from the beginning and the majority of people around you know this.3 If you
don't ask any questions, you're not going to get any answers.
Suggestion 3-Make friends and build connections
4 This is particularly better if you are alongside other students also in the same boat.
It is a huge relief to know that you are not the only one going through culture shocks.Making
friends not only makes it easier to deal with but also goes a long way in improving your social
skills.
Suggestion4一Embrace(拥抱)your own culture
5 In some cases, some cultures may have certain similarities with others.Do not shy
away from your own culture as people may find an interest in things such as your hobbies, the
foods you eat,the languages you speak and much more.
A.Everything seemed different.
B.It is very easy to overcome culture shock.
C.Your friends play a very important role in your life.
D.You'd be surprised how much they will be willing to help you.
E.Culture shock has less of an effect if you are with people around you.
F.Treat everything new as a chance to gain knowledge about the culture.
G.The university is filled with students of different cultures and backgrounds.

阅读下面短文,根据其内容写一篇60词左右的内容概要。
We live in a society where most people are looking for the BBD(the Bigger,Better Deal)
and not making an effort to enjoy what they already have.Making a commitment to prioritize
(优先处理)what's most meaningful in one's life is of great importance,.
I believe in the power of saying“no”-“no”to too many material possessions, and“no"
to schedules so crowded with "duties"that we crowd out time we should spend with our
families and our friends. We need to use the power of“no”so that we can say“yes”to the
things that matter to us.
The speed at which we move is so fast that we too often forget to hit the pause button.I
spent much of my younger years going to places I had little interest in,socializing with people
I didn't enjoy, and wasting time for other people's benefit. All of that compromised my
personal satisfaction.
My own rule, the result of necessity,is“dig it or ditch(放弃)it.”If you aren't using it,
if you haven't worn it in a year, get it out of your life.Give it to a friend, donate it to your
church or a thrift shop that supports a good cause.Someone else will value the item that no
longer fits in your life.
Keeping the stuff means someone else doesn't get the blessing of your unwanted item,
and it also means you can't clearly see those items of value that really should remain part of
your life.Having too much just isn't healthy. It burdens ourselves;it hangs over us,and it
slows us down.So that's it.The Joy of Less.Less stuff and fewer commitments on our
calendars.
The joy of less isn't really about having less;it's about clearing the way to have more of
what you love.It isn't about doing less;it's about doing more of what inspires you. It's about
making room for meaningful things in your life and letting go of what does not serve you.By
saying no you free up time and space for what serves you best.
