IV. Teaching procedures
Step 1 Lead in
1. Watch a video. T leads Ss to appreciate a piece of poem—Nostalgia(乡愁).
2. Ask students a question: What is poetry? Appreciate the quotation from”Preface to The Book of Songs”and ask them to translate it into Chinese.
【设计意图:通过观看学生熟悉的《乡愁》诗歌朗诵来引入话题,理解诗歌的意境,随后欣赏名人名言,激发学生共鸣,领会诗歌之美。】
Step 2 Welcome to the unit
1. Poetry is a significant form of literature. Read the two poems on page 43 and discuss how you like them in pairs.
2. What other poems or poets do you know about?

What aspects of a poem do you pay attention to when you read it?

Step 4 Fast reading
Global Reading: Read the lecture transcript and complete the chart below.Read for structure.

Step 5 Detailed reading
1. T asks Ss to focus on paragraph 1 and answer.
How is poetry different from other types of literature?

2.Apart from the four tips given by the lecturer, what other tips can you give on how to read a poem?
