Predicted area of difficulty Share one’s own favorite poem in class IV. Teaching procedures Step 1 Lead in 1. Watch a video. T leads Ss to appreciate a piece of poem—Nostalgia(乡愁). 2. Ask students a question: What is poetry? Appreciate the quotation from”Preface to The Book of Songs”and ask them to translate it into Chinese. 【设计意图：通过观看学生熟悉的《乡愁》诗歌朗诵来引入话题，理解诗歌的意境，随后欣赏名人名言，激发学生共鸣，领会诗歌之美。】 Step 2 Welcome to the unit 1. Poetry is a significant form of literature. Read the two poems on page 43 and discuss how you like them in pairs. 2. What other poems or poets do you know about? 【设计意图：通过列举中外著名诗歌，帮助学生欣赏理解诗歌，培养学生语言感知能力，通过对比感受中外诗歌的差异。】 Step 3 Pre-reading 1. Free talk: Why do people read poems? T asks Ss to focus on paragraph 1 and answer. How is poetry different from other types of literature? 2. In order to fully appreciate a poem,what kind of thinking should one abandon? Why is poetry reading worth your effort? 6.T asks Ss to focus on paragraph 6 and answer the questions. What can poetry bring for us? Do you think the ending part is well written?
