二、意群(Sense Group)
(一)意群是句子内部意义相对完整的一组词。
意群的界限是相对的。一个句子可以是一个大意群,也可分为若干个小意群,句子内的意群之间停顿时间较短,用一根竖直线(|)标出。句子和句子之间的停顿时间较长,用两根竖直线(||)标出。
例: Home is a place of love.||It always welcomes me|with open arms|—and perhaps|a plate of freshly - made biscuits.
每个意群要一口气说完。在说每个意群时,要注意词与词之间的连读、不完全爆破和词的弱读等现象。
(二)划分英语句子意群,关键是找意义关联紧密的词块,从语法、语义、逻辑角度入手,常见方法有这些:
1.按语法结构
短语/从句:名词短语(a beautiful flower)、动词短语(will go shopping)、介词短语(in the morning)、从句(If it rains)等可成意群,如 “She bought | a book | about history.”(动宾 + 定语短语)。
句子成分:主语(含修饰词)、谓语(含助动词等)、宾语等可划分,像 “The old man | is reading | a newspaper.”(主|谓|宾)。
2.按语义逻辑
表意完整单元:把表达连贯意思的内容放一起,如“After school, | we play football | on the playground.”(时间+行为+地点)。
关联词汇:意义相关的词(如固定搭配、同类词)归为意群,像 “bread and butter | is my breakfast.”(固定搭配作意群)。
3.常见划分技巧
连词/介词:连词(and/but)、介词(in/on)前常可停顿,如 “He is tall | but thin.”“In the park, | there are trees.”。
标点辅助:逗号、破折号等标点处,往往是意群停顿点,如 “She likes music, | especially pop music.”。
