[湖北武汉中学2025高一月考]The first time I realised that I had a love for sports competitions was during the sports day in elementary school. Small for my age, and more of a bookworm than a sports lover, I had suffered that special humiliation of being picked last for various sports teams. The sports day, which focused on individual (个体的) skills, was different. In the Softball Throw event, I got my first taste of sporting victory. Credit goes to the example of my first coach, my father. He lifted weights every morning at home. He bought us all baseball gloves and hats, and in the warm months, we spent hours playing catch.
Once I got to sixth grade and switched to private school, our entire student body was assigned to either the Red or the White team. Throughout the year, we competed against each other in various games and exercises for points. I eventually became president of the Committee of Games. I also played in the field hockey team and the basketball team. And at home, playing tennis, skating, skiing and biking were simply normal things I did.

During break time, magazines were also quite popular with us teens. These regularly featured articles on physical exercise. Somehow, my college roommate and I took up the habit of completing Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) exercises every day, a practice that continued into my marriage, when I had no spare money to use to join a gym.
So, though it shocks some of our friends, that early foundation (基础) evolved in adulthood into a sports and fitness focus, which is considered important even on vacation. I still love reading and the arts, too. As far as I’m concerned, life is the richest with my feet in both worlds.

[广东肇庆2025高一期末]It is common knowledge that doing sports can do wonders for our minds. When you exercise, your body releases feel-good chemicals and produces more energy, which can make you feel stronger about yourself and more confident to take on any challenges in life.
But could there be such a thing as overdoing it? According to a new study, you don’t have to push yourself or feel the burn to get benefits from exercise, because too much exercise may actually backfire and do harm to mental health as well as your memory.
The researchers asked 113 people to share their exercise records, take memory tests and answer questions about their mental health. With careful examinations of average heart rates, step counts, and the time spent in exercising each week, they saw connections between exercise and mental health as well as memory.

It turned out that those who took moderate (适度的) exercise not only got better results in memory tests, but also felt a decrease in anxiety and the blues. Jeremy Manning, lead researcher in the study, explains, “Too much exercise is a form of stress in itself. It can actually keep you nervous and therefore do more harm than good to a healthy mind.” Besides, Manning also reminds us of the dark side of over-exercising, like exercise addiction, which can lead to physical injuries and mental issues.
“Just try to be a little more physically active than you are now, and it could mean just doing stretches or going for walks with friends. You could build on this and increase the duration or bring in more variety and make it fun,” he says.“We all have our own unique needs, strengths, and challenges, and it is worthwhile to take a personalised approach to exercise, which helps calm the mind and improve our brainpower.”

1._______________
have developed
故填have developed。

4._______
where

6.__________
attractions

[安徽芜湖一中2024高一期中]It’s OK to run when it’s cold outside. But is it OK to run when you have a cold? Many runners find the activity addictive. Running releases endorphins (内啡肽) into the brain, which are responsible for mood changes. The harder you run, the more endorphins released, and the happier you are. Some studies show this endorphin rush allows people to continue running even when injured or sick.
And that brings us to the point of this article—why people continue their running even when they’re sick. Most of us curl up in bed with some chicken soup and the remote control when we’re under the weather. But runners often hit the road. Are they helping or hurting themselves by jogging with a cold?
The best way to decide whether you should exercise is to employ what doctors call the “neck check”.Feel free to go running if your cold is “above the neck”.Doctors advise against proceeding with your exercise if your symptoms (症状) are “below the neck”.

Some people think that running in cold temperatures will actually make them sick. But this isn’t really true. You can’t freeze your lungs or windpipe (气管).Your body heats the air you breathe. When the air is particularly cold, you may feel a burning sensation in your chest as you breathe. If that’s the case, try covering your mouth with a scarf or wearing a ski mask. That’ll help heat up the air before you breathe it in.
Keep in mind, if you have an infection (感染) in your chest or throat, running outside can indeed make things worse. But if you have a simple head cold, it would be fine to take that run, even if it’s cold outside.

[江苏盐城五校2024高一期末]Sports play a key role in the physical and mental development of children. Although it’s great to see a child succeed in one sport, it’s important to keep their activities in balance. Participation in multiple sports enables children to acquire a knowledge of many movement skills. In addition to this, here are some very good reasons why kids should be encouraged to play multiple sports.
Repetitive movements can overstress growing bodies, which later on can lead to injuries. With multiple sports, each sport has a slightly different effect on the body. This will lead to fewer overuse injuries. Also, kids who overspecialise in one sport may end up losing interest and eventually quit. Specialising in a sport raises expectations and may put too much pressure on young kids. Having a variety of experiences will keep children interested and motivated, and even make them enjoy sports without any pressure.
66
Multiple sports also allow kids to experience different roles. Being a goalkeeper in a football team is very different from being a point guard in basketball. Being exposed to baseball develops better hand-eye coordination (协调).Soccer develops better footwork (步法).Volleyball develops jumping and hand-eye coordination. Martial arts develop strength, mobility, and discipline. Swimming develops full body coordination and strength. The list goes on and on! Participation in multiple sports broadens a child’s developmental, social, and situational experience. It opens up opportunities to become a better competitor and a promising athlete—flexible and energetic.
Besides developing a wide range of sports skills, more importantly, multiple sports provide opportunities for children to discover their liking. With the help of the right coaches, sports become fun, arousing kids’ interest. So if you can’t decide whether your child should focus on one sport or try some different sports, I hope you can make a better decision now.

Summer camps, family trips and educational tours have been the primary forms of tourism in the summer of 2023, with museum visits becoming a must-do activity for travellers.
