My name is Robinson Crusoe, and I was born in the city of York in 1632. My father was a successful businessman. I had two older brothers. One of them was killed in a war. My other brother disappeared (失踪) one day.
My father wanted me to be a lawyer. But I wanted to be a sailor (水手). I knew he just wanted to make sure of my safety. He said, “Stay at home with your mother and me.” But I didn’t listen to my father and went to Hull with a friend who was going to London on a ship.
We were making good progress when there was another storm. Once again the strong wind blew our ship off its course (航线). This time it took us west and away from Barbados. We were going towards unknown lands!
The storm continued for several days. When I woke up, I found myself on an island. I lay on the beach for a long time. When I felt stronger, I stood up and looked around. “Where am I?” I asked myself. “Is this an island or the mainland? Are there any people here? Any dangerous animals?”
It was getting dark and I was still very tired. “I must look for somewhere safe to spend the night,” I thought. I found a big tree not far from the shore (岸) and I climbed up into the branches. It made a comfortable bed and I fell asleep at once.
The next morning, I could see the ship from my “bed” in the tree. I decided to swim to it. I climbed on board and had a look around. First of all, I went to the kitchen because I was feeling very hungry. Luckily, all the bread in the cupboard was still dry.
While I was walking around the ship, I thought, “The ship is going to sink. I must make a raft (木筏) and take all the food back to the shore before it’s too late.”
29. Why did Robinson’s father refuse to let him become a sailor?
A. Because his older brother was killed at sea.
B. Because he wanted him to be a doctor instead.
C. Because life at sea was dangerous and difficult.
30. Where did Robinson sleep on the first night after he was on the beach?
A. In a tree. B. In a tent. C. On the ship.

31. What’s the right order of the following events?
a. Robinson woke up and found himself on an island.
b. Robinson didn’t listen to his father and sailed.
c. A storm hit, blew the ship to unknown lands.
d. Robinson slept in the tree and swam back to the ship.
A. a-b-c-d B. b-c-d-a C. b-c-a-d
32. What can we infer (推断) from the passage?

C. Robinson stayed on the ship and repaired it to sail home.
