In the past, middle school students did the same set of radio exercises during the break every day. 1 The music and actions never changed. Many students didn’t try hard because they lost interest.
Now, schools give students fun choices! Active kids dance to pop music with friends, while students who prefer quiet time try slow exercises like Tai Chi. Team games are popular too —students jump rope in groups or play ball games together. 2
Thanks to these changes, students are much happier. Zhang Lin, who never misses a dance class, says, “ 3 ” Even students who used to be shy join in activities and smile more. Teachers say the best part is seeing students enjoy exercise and do better in class. “Before, some students just stood there, but now everyone tries,” says Mr.Wang, a PE teacher.
4 Dancing teams learn to work together. Tai Chi helps students feel calm. Games make everyone friendly. “Exercise isn't just for health —it’s for fun and friendship,” adds Mr.Wang.

China is taking big steps to help people stay healthy. The government recently announced it will open more special “weight clinics (诊所)” in hospitals. 1
At a press meeting (新闻发布会) in Beijing, Lei Haichao from the National Health Commission (NHC) said the plan is part of a new health-first strategy (策略). 2 Many people shared funny posts and drew cartoons about exercising and eating healthy.
Why does it matter? Over half of Chinese adults are now overweight. If something changes, this number could rise to 70% by 2030. Being overweight can lead to health problems like diabetes (糖尿病). 3 Weight clinics are a key part of this plan. Besides clinics, many cities also take the responsibility and build millions of sports parks and walking paths for citizens. More Chinese people are exercising outdoors.
Food habits are changing too. New dietary guides (饮食指南) mention healthy meals for different cities, such as steamed (蒸) fish with millet rice (小米饭) and vegetables in central China, and fresh seafood with vegetables in the south. 4 Office workers prefer salad bowls with chicken or fish. Even holiday snacks like mooncakes are now smaller and healthier. Doctors mix old Chinese recipes (食谱) with modern science. 5
