Should children be allowed to use AI?
Artificial intelligence (AI) is developing faster than anyone expected. Some
people are excited about its possibilities, but others are worried, especially about
children using it. A charity called the NSPCC has asked the government to
protect children from AI. Their report shows that children can be exposed to
upsetting contents or use AI to be unkind to others. A survey found that about
78% of the UK public thinks there should be safety checks on AI software.
Here is a hot debate about whether children should use AI.

Yes—Children should learn about AI
AI is an important technology, and
children need to understand it for their
future. Adults use AI at work to make
tasks easier, like writing emails or
planning meetings. Children could use
AI for schoolwork or fun. A report
showed that about 43% of children aged
8 to 15 used AI tools for fun. No—AI is too dangerous for children
AI is still new and constantly
changing. It’s better to keep children
away until it’s proven safe. AI can
show upsetting contents or give wrong
information. A study found that
ChatGPT gave wrong answers 52% of
the time, and users didn’t notice 39%
of the time.
