例文
How to be a better teenager
Every student wants to be a better teenager. But what can we do to be better? Here are my suggestions.
At school, we should listen to our teachers carefully in class and finish our homework on time. Besides, we are not allowed to get our ears pierced or bring mobile phones to school.
At home, we are supposed to help our parents with housework. Moreover, we are not supposed to talk back to our parents. It’s impolite. We are expected to communicate with them more often. Through communication, we can understand each other better.
In public places, we should offer our seats to the old. We can’t throw rubbish everywhere. What’s more, we’d better not listen to music that’s loud.
By following these suggestions, we can not only improve ourselves but also make the world a better place!

As a student in the second year of junior high school, I have come to realize that many of my classmates and I struggle with appearance anxiety (容貌焦虑). People want to be friends with “good-looking” people and feel stressed to have a perfect appearance. I sometimes feel upset about my appearance, and care much about how others think of me. What’s worse, I can’t focus on my study. How can I deal with appearance anxiety and make myself less stressed out?
——Monica
Dear Monica,
①Appearance anxiety is common in teenagers. It’s that feeling when you look in the mirror and worry about how you look, or how others might say about you. I’ve learned that there are ways to deal with it and feel better about yourself.
②First, remember it’s not just you who sometimes feel anxious about your looks. You friends, classmates, even people you admire on TV or online-they all have moments when they doubt themselves.
③Another thing that can help you is focusing on your inner (内在的) qualities. Instead of just looking at your physical appearance, try to think about what makes you a good person. Are you kind to others? Do you work hard in school? Do you have hobbies? These are the things that truly matter and make you special.
④Besides, try to be careful with social media. Sometimes, looking through Wechat or TikTok can make you feel bad about yourself because you compare yourself to others who look perfect in their photos. Remember that those pictures are often not real. Instead, try to focus on what’s real and true in your own life.
⑤Finally, I remind myself that beauty is not just about looks. It’s about who you are inside, how you treat others, and what you do for the world. When I think about it that way, I feel less pressure to look perfect all the time.
⑥In conclusion, appearance anxiety can be tough, but it’s something we can all work on and overcome.

In today’s society, many young people worry about how they look, which leads to feelings of anxiety (焦虑).
In Japan, people are usually shyer and quieter than people in Western countries. This can make students less confident and stop them from showing who they are. For example, during the COVID-19 pandemic, masks became a daily part of life. Even after the pandemic, many Japanese students still wore masks because they felt nervous about showing their faces.
In Sweden, many students worry about how they look, and social media (社交媒体) is a big reason. The pictures students see online often show people who look perfect, and this makes them feel like they need to look the same. This problem gets worse because of apps like Photoshop, which make people look even more perfect. Students compare themselves with these pictures and feel anxious.
In Mexico, students feel nervous about their looks, too. Ana, a 14-year-old, has seen some classmates get anxious when they get pimples (青春痘) and others talk about makeup tips and share cosmetics (化妆品) in the restroom. These worries are common among teenagers as their bodies change and grow. She thinks things like social pressure from friends, bullying (霸凌), and seeing pop stars influence these feelings. She says that overcoming these worries helps teenagers better understand and accept themselves. She also encourages everyone to focus on what they’re good at and remember that it’s okay to look different because nobody is perfect.
However, things get better in Singapore. Huang Luofei, a 13-year-old, noticed that not many people at her school worry about how they look. She believes this is because Singapore is a multicultural (多元文化的) country with many different ideas of beauty and style. People there care more about personality than appearance, and schools let students truly be themselves.
Do students in your country worry about how they look? What makes them feel this way? What do you think about it? Anyway, it’s important for you to remember that everyone is different and everyone can be beautiful in their own way.
18.Why do many Japanese students still wear masks even after the COVID-19 pandemic?
A.Because it’s a tradition in Japan.
B.Because they feel nervous about showing their faces.
C.Because masks are required by the school.
D.Because they think masks protect them from getting sick again.
19.Who is the main reader of this passage?
A.Teachers. B.Parents. C.Teenagers. D.Adults.
20.Which of the following statements is TRUE according to the passage?
A.Japanese students are more confident in appearance than Western ones.
B.Students in Sweden feel anxious when they see perfect people on social media.
C.Ana thinks social pressure from teachers and seeing pop stars influence her feelings.
D.Huang Luofei believes that Singaporeans only care about personality.
21.Why does the writer write this article?
A.To show students it’s OK to be different and like themselves.
B.To advise young people to help friends become confident.
C.To ask young people to stop caring about their looks.
D.To tell people to use apps to make themselves look better.
D

“If parents are forced to leave home to earn a living and unable to take their children with them, we are looking for a transitional (过渡的) way to solve the problem,” he added.
22.What is the Chinese meaning of the underlined word “left-behind” in paragraph 1?

Beyond Burnout (精力耗尽)
America is seriously stressed out. More recently, the American Psychological Association reported that the country’s collective stress had reached worrying levels. 26 So before the stress in your life rises to that level, know there are steps you can take to prevent burnout.
Look for meaning at work. You are more likely to experience burnout-causing stress when something seems out of your control, against your will, or completely meaningless. Try to find ways, even the smallest of your daily tasks improves the lives of others. 27 Then you can live with stress longer.
Try to separate work and home. With the time for work and nonwork mixed up these days, research has recommended strategies you can use. 28 Use separate e-mail accounts for work and home, making a clear line between work and personal life, especially when you work from home.
Don’t ignore yourself. Physical activity is necessary to remove stress hormones (荷尔蒙). Many people are less active in order to rest when under stress. 29 While you don’t have to run away from a mountain lion these days, even light activities help “complete” the stress cycle.
30 It’s very common for your boss to continue to increase tasks over time. Talk to him/her when you feel your job should be more manageable, meaningful and under your control. If you don’t communicate your needs or limits, they may be ignored. If you don’t expect things will improve, consider changing jobs.
If you do feel burned out, proper treatment can help you deal with work-related stress and learn useful strategies and it can teach you to communicate with your boss and keep healthy both physically and mentally.
A.It is very likely to cause burnout.
B.Make an effort to find the work you like.
C.Recognize when it has become too much.
D.You should turn off work e-mail reminders.
E.You must deal with burnout in a proper way.
F.But movement is the most natural response to stress.
G.It makes you believe your work has a good purpose.

Recently my Chinese friend found it difficult to study English. I had a conversation 44 her. English is difficult just like Chinese to foreigners. I gave some advice to her according to 45 (I) own experience.
Here is one of the 46 (secret) which I discovered when I worked as a high school teacher. For 47 (memorize) things, there are forty minutes each day when our brain is 48 (active) than it is during the other 23 hours and 20 minutes: 20 minutes before we sleep, and the other 20 minutes after we wake up. As far as language study goes, it’s not only useful for remembering words and 49 (express), it’s also very useful for listening to the language you’re studying. Memory is of course 50 big challenge for most language learners, especially as we grow older. Probably an even bigger challenge is the fear of looking or sound stupid.
There is one rule of language learning: use it 51 lose it. So to learn English or any language 52 (wise), my advice will be: make use of the forty-minute learning time; don’t be afraid of poor 53 (pronounce); find ways to use the language outside of the classroom often.

Remember when you were a little child trying to learn to walk?
First, you had to learn how to balance(平衡) yourself and stand. You fell down, and then got back up. You laughed sometimes and cried at other times. After much practice, you finally learned how to balance yourself. You got much pleasure from this new feeling of power—you’d stand everywhere you could. It was a happy time-you did it!
Now, the next step—walking. You’d seen others do it. It didn’t look that hard—just move your legs while you were standing. Wrong—more difficult than you ever imagined. But after you tried again and again, you understood how to walk.
If people found you walking, they cheered, “Oh, look at what the kid is doing. ” This encouraged you! But look back on those days when you were the little child—how many times did you try when no one was watching, or when no one was cheering? You couldn’t wait for someone to encourage you to take the next steps. You learned how to encourage yourself.
So, keep trying and encouraging yourself as you learned to walk if you want to succeed in doing something.

2.句意:他们认为应该被允许练习他们的爱好。
allow允许,动词原形;allowed过去式/过去分词;be allowed被动语态;allowing现在分词。根据“They think they should…to practice their hobbies”可知此处是指他们认为应该被允许练习他们的爱好,主语they与allow之间是被动be done的关系,should后接动词原形,故选C。
3.句意:父母应该允许他们的孩子自己做决定吗?
choose选择;make做;stop停止;love爱。根据“their own decisions”可知此处是指自己做决定,make one’s own decisions“自己做决定”,固定搭配,故选B。
4.句意:然而,她的父母不想让她练习唱歌,因为他们认为他们的女儿应该努力学习取得好成绩,然后去一所好大学。
However然而;Though尽管;But但是;So因此。根据“She always wants to be a professional singer when she grows up”及“her parents don’t want her to practice singing”可知前后句意发生转折,且空后有逗号,所以用副词however,表示“然而”,故选A。

care about关心;take after与……相像;look for寻找;look like看起来像。根据“And they hope that I will have a better life in the future”可知此处是指我知道我的父母关心我,care about“关心”,符合语境,故选A。
8.句意:但我认真对待唱歌。
seriously认真地,副词;serious严肃的,形容词;more serious更严肃的;most serious最严肃的。take sth. seriously表示“认真对待”,故选A。
9.句意:只有这样我才有机会实现我的梦想。
miss想念;know知道;achieve实现;change改变。根据“my dream”可知此处是指实现我的梦想,achieve one’s dream“实现梦想”,固定搭配,故选C。

/ 不填;but但是;and和;or或者。根据“it’s normal to want successful children”及“it’s even more important to have healthy and happy children”可知前后句意是转折关系,但是空前已有although,所以此处不能用but,前后句意完整,所以空处不填,故选A。

——Dr. Know
14.What are the suggestions from Dr. Know?
①Be careful with social media. ② Focus on inner qualities.
③Admire people on TV. ④ Remember beauty is not just about looks.

15.What does the underlined word “these” in paragraph③ refer to?
A.Perfect photos. B.Good looks.
C.Inner qualities. D.Beautiful clothes.
16.According to the passage, why should we be careful with social media?
A.Because we may make comparisons with others on the social media and feel bad.
B.Because it’s a waste of time to look through Wechat or TikTok.
C.Because using social media will make us look less perfect.
D.Because we will be easily cheated by the wrong information on the social media.
17.Where can we read this passage?
A.ww.toolsforteachers.com. B.www.teeanagersguide.com.
C.www.beautifulfreepictures.com. D.www.childrenslibrary.org.
