1.Greet the class.
2.Ask students if they know any famous people who love learning.Let them share some basic information about those people.
Step 2 Pre⁃reading
1.Show the picture of Benjamin Franklin on the screen.Let students look at the picture and predict what kind of person he was.
2.Present the pre⁃reading questions.Ask students to think about the answers.Then let them share their ideas with their partners.
Step 3 While⁃reading
1.Extensive reading
Ask students to read the article quickly to get the general idea.Then ask them to answer some simple questions.
2.Intensive reading
Let students read the article again carefully.Ask them to underline the sentences that describe Franklin’s early life,his learning methods,his interests,and his inventions.After that,ask students to complete the the main idea of each paragraph in Part A.
3.Work on B
(1)Ask students to read the article again and answer the questions below.
(2)Then check the answers and let students explain their reasons.
Step 4 Post⁃reading
1.Ask students to work in groups.Each student should introduce Benjamin Franklin’s learning story.
2.Select one or two groups to introduce to the whole class.Then check.

本课时通过多种阅读活动,学生能够较好地理解文章内容,掌握描述学习经历和成就的相关表达。但在理解长难句时,部分学生仍存在困难,后续教学中应加强长难句分析的指导和练习。同时,可以引导学生对本杰明·富兰克林的学习品质进行深入讨论,加深对文章主题的理解。
