The robot uses radio frequency identification (RFID,天线射频识别)
technology, a reader and a special tag (标签) that can share information
without touching each other. This way, it can help find and know what it is
looking for. Each student's notebook has a special RFID tag with his or her
name and the subject. And each student only needs to place the notebook on the
robot, and the machine “sees” the notebook, reads its tag and takes the name out
of the name list.“Teachers can check who hasn't turned in homework by
connecting their phones with the robot through Wi-Fi,” the student explained to a
reporter.

this is the key to how artificial intelligence can make life easier for us.

from ancient stone pillows to modern soft pillows. Here is how pillows
developed.
Some people say that the first pillows were invented thousands of years ago
in the ancient Mesopotamia, and they were made of stone and carved (雕刻)

Instead, these stone pillows were used to lift the head so that insects wouldn't
enter a sleeper's mouth, nose or ears! Because the stone was pricey, only rich
people used the pillows. Poor people couldn't afford them.
In ancient Egypt, people believed the head was the center of spiritual life
and it should be cared for and protected. Egyptian pillows were made of marble
(大理石), ivory or wood.
The ancient Chinese had the knowledge of how to create soft pillows, but
they preferred hard pillows made of jade, bamboo and so on. And porcelain (瓷)
pillows are among the best preserved (保存) from historical records. The
porcelain pillows were first produced in the Sui Dynasty. They became more
popular during the Tang Dynasty and reached the peak in the Song Dynasty.

[2025廊坊期中]You may think that inventions are far away from your
everyday lives. But in fact, almost everyone can invent something. It's just that
people do not tell that their ideas could be the start of an invention. When
inventors see their ideas have some practical value, they don't let them slip away
(溜走).

For example, the inventor of the dishwasher (洗碗机), American Josephine
Cochrane, loved to give dinner parties. But she found it took too long to wash
her dishes by hand and too many of them broke. She decided to invent a
machine which could do the job faster and with fewer mistakes. So, in 1886, she
made one for herself.
There are the steps to create inventions. The first and most important step is
to find the problem. Then you might notice situations or things in need of
improvement. The next step is to work it out. An invention is a new way of
solving a problem. So think of unusual ways. You can often come up with a
solution by looking at it from a different side.

And the hardest part of inventing is finding a solution. When you have an
idea, you can always get help to build your invention. This problem-solving skill
is very useful. It can also work in your everyday lives. So, why not try it in
your study, or even in the way you look at the world?

A Small Invention That I Love Most
Although a lot of inventions are small, they're very useful for people's life.
One of my favorite small inventions is the ballpoint pen, which is used for
writing.
The modern ballpoint pen was invented by Laszlo Biro. It was invented in
1930s. While he worked as a reporter in Hungary, he noticed that the ink used
in newspaper printing dried quickly. He tried to use the same ink in a pen and
developed a special pen. This new kind of pen was called the ballpoint pen. We
can take it wherever we go, without taking ink bottles. I love the ballpoint pens
because they are not only cheap but also convenient.
