____49____ It can easily make people get into bad habits, like eating too much junk food. Brothers and sisters might fight when bored. And a house full of bored kids can be hard on parents.
So why do experts say we need more boredom? Well, it is about our brain (大脑). ____50____ When we’re bored, we’re letting our brain take a break—like a sportsman. Then we’ll become healthier. So boredom is not always bad.
A. Being bored is bad.

To break the record for the world’s largest plastic duck (塑料鸭子) race, 150,000 plastic ducks were set free from Dublin, Ireland in 2006. The ducks were supposed to (本应该) travel a mile from the Millennium Bridge. But plans—and ducks—went wrong, and one of those ducks has just been found hundreds of miles away.
Filip Miller is a 13-year-old boy. He found one of the ducks from the race on the island of Stronsay in Scotland. Filip was walking his dogs along the beach when he came across the duck. He took it home to show his mom Marion, and that’s when they realized the duck was from the race.
“On the duck, there were the words ‘World Record Duck Race, Ireland 2006’. We got quite excited then. We searched online and found the information about this duck race,” said Marion. “After so many years at sea, the duck was still in good condition (状态良好). In fact, it was so good that the duck’s number in the race was still on it—No.59, 933.”
The discovery soon became a topic of conversation on social media. Many people began wondering about the future of the duck. Marion has no plans to throw it away. “I don’t think we’ll keep it in the bath (浴缸), but we’re going to keep it on the shelf!” she says.

Clark’s story started at a primary school in North Carolina, the US. The first time he walked into his fifth-grade class, he met lots of problems. Rule 6: Always say thank you when you get something.

Do you want to travel around the world? Lexie Alford, from California, America, finished traveling to every country in the world at the age of 21.
Lexie Alford comes from a traveling family. Her mother began her own travel business (生意) at a young age, and always took Lexie with her on all of her travels. By the time she was only 18 years old. Lexie had already visited 70 countries. That made her want to visit the rest of the world. In October 2017, Lexie began a trip to visit all 195 countries in the world. Two years later, she finished it.
Lexie used planes boats and trains to get around. But she liked to travel by train most. “Traveling on trains is slow travel. I can watch the changing views (景色) from the window,” she said.
For Lexie, there’s nothing better than traveling. Even in the hard times, she never thought of giving up. “I’m lucky I made it at last. I felt tired, but it was still an exciting trip. I experienced nothing but love and kindness from the people in each and every country,” she said. “And I learned a lot about the world. The world would be so boring if everything was the same everywhere. The differences make discovering new cultures such a beautiful experience.”
Lexie hopes others can go out and see the world. Everyone should try something new, no matter (无论) how big or small they may be.
We live in such a big and beautiful world. Why not spend some time traveling just like Lexie?
