Have students discuss the following questions. (1) What is an agricultural field trip? An agricultural field trip is a journey to a farm made by a group of people, often students, to study something in its natural environment. (2) Have you ever made an agricultural field trip? If so, what have you learnt from it? Yes. I have learnt that rice plants undergo three general growth phases: the vegetative phase, reproductive phase and ripening phase. They take around three to six months to grow from seeds to mature plants, depending on the variety and environmental conditions. There are different activities at different phases of rice growth, such as sowing seeds, transplanting seeds, fertilizing and irrigating. 2. Have students discuss the importance of making an agricultural field trip. Most of us may have little or no knowledge about how particular crops are cultivated. Making such a kind of trip is an opportunity to connect us with farming, engage in hands-on activities, and learn about the value of farming. 3. Have students discuss farming in the local area and decide on the agricultural field trip. 批 注 Remind them to pay attention to the tip on page 27. 4. Have students search for detailed information about their chosen agricultural field trip according to the following aspects. ● Target students ● Aims ● Time ● Place ● Activities 5. Have students read the sample on page 27 and discuss the following questions. Proposal for an agricultural field trip Target students: All Senior Two students Aims: • To help students develop a love of agricultural work • To inform them of the latest developments in China’s rural areas • To increase their awareness that food is valuable and should not be wasted (1) What aspects are included in the proposal for an agricultural field trip? A title, its target students, aims, time, place and activities. (2) What other aspects can you add to the sample? We can add the aspect about safety tips. For example, look out for pests before placing your feet or hands in areas where pests live or hide; follow farm workers’ instructions and do not touch any farming tools or machines unless instructed to. 6. Have students organize the information they have collected and make a proposal. 7. Have students proofread the draft to make sure there are no mistakes. When the proposal is finished, each group member should read it carefully and give suggestions on how to improve it. 8. Have students present their work to the whole class and explain some background knowledge of their agricultural field trip. 9. Have students evaluate the proposal and give comments. 10.
